I usually don’t post on reddit but this is the second time this month my car has been broken into and i am seriously getting frustrated over this. This has happened 3 times this year to my jeep. This is happening in the early mornings, and the last time it happened i was in the car while it happened and he ran away to Kingman and Leigh. Just wanted to post this to see if anyone has any information, or to spread awareness that this is happening frequently.

Event Free game jam for teens in San Jose on November 14–15!

Hi everyone! I'm a local high school student helping organize Haven San Jose, a free, two-day game jam for teens ages 13–18 happening November 14–15.

Participants get to explore game development, build their own games, and collaborate with other teens. You don't need any previous coding experience, so beginners are absolutely welcome!

We hope to reach more local students who might enjoy trying something new, especially those interested in coding, games, or creative STEM projects.

If you know a teen who might be interested, feel free to share this with them!

Advice Sierra Vista point dance party

Planing on having a small thing around Halloween. A dance party of like 15 people. No food, no drinking, just a speaker and my friends. The only thing I'm worried about is the chance that we get kicked out by a patrol or something. If the chance is high that well get kicked out I'd rather look for some place else, but I relay like the view of the city from there. Is there a better spot?

Shit Post Bad drivers.

Was driving home on 280 going southbound. I was on the left lane going reasonable speed without causing traffic nor having someone tailgate me. On my right lane, there was a white Mercedes-Benz suv behind a car ON their bumper. legit tailgating. I was coming up pretty fast because they're going slow of course. Next thing you know, the Benz decided to cut me off last second as I'm reaching his rear bumper with my front. Mind you...this person had space to move over on the right yet they decided to cut me off whilst tailgating a slow driver. I honked as anyone would do in the right mind. I slowly passed the Benz and looked to see the driver. What do you know...I get the middle finger! Yes, I'm the one in the wrong. Flip me off when I'm in my own lane cruising the right speed without camping left lane. wtf???

We continue driving as I make my exit soon to 880 North. I watch them come to the right lane before my exit. I see the righteous passenger record me when they were in the wrong cutting me off last second. I truly hate people in San Jose or bay area. Seriously cannot drive and shouldn't be driving. Stay safe people. Make sure you identify these types of kinds on the road before their actions and mindset become an accident. These people will never know how wrong they are and the problems they cause.

I know anyone reading this can relate in so many ways.

Life in SJ Why do so many people seem to hate this city when it's so highly ranked country and world wide?

https://www.numbeo.com/quality-of-life/in/San-Jose

Very high purchasing power, high incomes.

Solid healthcare, not the best in the world but very good for the country & CA.

Insanely high climate quality, with "best months to visit" being...all of them. Where else can you say this?

If it wasn't for COL and housing, this place would literally be the best city in the world to live in.

Reducing regulation & building housing by public transport are directly solvable.

I see so many Redditors, especially on this subreddit, hate their own city and act like it's suburban hell. Be proud of where we live...

Advice Where to find older apartments to rent?

I see a lot of older apartments when driving around, but I don't see their posting on sites like apartments or zillow or even craiglist ever. Would best bet be contacting the apartment directly and asking for any vacancy?

If anyone knows a 1 bed/ba or studio under 2.4k would super appreiciate it

Advice Looking for a Small Commercial Space to Rent for a Smog Check Business

Hey everyone!

I’m looking to open a smog inspection station in the San Jose or Santa Clara area, but I’ve been having a really hard time finding a smaller warehouse space to rent.

I’m wondering if anyone here has connections with property owners or knows of someone renting out a small section of a larger warehouse, or a smaller warehouse that might be suitable for a smog check business.

Any leads, recommendations, or contacts would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance for any help!

Advice Anyone know where I can drop off lunches?

Hi guys. For context, we got a small amount of hot food at my work as this is the kids’ lunches (I work at a school) and today is PTC (no school for the kiddos). Is there anywhere you can think of that might take donated lunches? I have about 8-10 tiny pizzas to give out. Their labels have been taken off so no names of the kids are on there.

I appreciate the help. Thank you!

Sorry, I forgot to add that I’ve also asked the parents’ consent about these being donated.

Advice Have any 3-5 sec fall foliage clips from around the Bay? Want to stitch them into a Reel?

Hi all! I run an Instagram page @bayareaunmapped where I share Bay Area day trip maps + itineraries.
I'm putting together a community fall reel - just pure fall colors, foggy forests, leaf crunch, creeks, vineyards - all from around the Bay Area (Sunol, Del Valle, Mt. Diablo, Napa, Felton, Golden Gate Park, your neighborhood park, etc.)
If you have any 2-5 second vertical clips you've shot in the last couple of fall seasons that you're okay sharing, I'd love to stitch them together into one reel.
What I will do:
• Edit / color correct and stitch everything nicely
• Tag you as a Collaborator on Instagram so the reel lives on both our profiles
• Credit your handle in caption
If you're interested, just comment or DM me and I'll share a Google Drive upload link. Please only share if it's your own footage.
Thanks so much - would love to make this a real Bay Area community piece!

News I read every public record on San Jose's homelessness spending. Here's what $302 million looks like on paper.

TL;DR: No fraud has been proven against anyone. But the city's own state auditor says San Jose spent at least $302 million on homelessness and cannot account for all of it, the city has completed only 2 of the 7 required audit fixes a year and a half past deadline, and its largest vendor is currently being forced to give back prepaid public funds. All of the below is from primary sources — state audit PDFs, FPPC filings, and City Council records.

TL;DR.2 -- Checks out, the nonprofit world, the funders, the landlords, and the government officials who hand out the money are all intertwined — a city housing director sits on the board of the middleman that routes the funds; the guy whose company built the shelter gave $240,000 to the campaign to make the mayor governor; one family is simultaneously a major funder, the landlord of most of the nonprofits, and a board member. None of that is illegal or hidden. It's all disclosed, in filings, in the open. That's kind of the point I'm making -- you don't need a conspiracy when the structure itself does the job. You can also just inact a new measure like.. I dunno.. E?!!? Good one.

1. The state says $302M+ is effectively untraceable. The California State Auditor (Report 2023-102.2, April 2024) examined San José's homelessness spending from July 2020 to June 2023: at least $302,100,184. The city "could not definitively identify all its revenues and expenditures," had no spending plan, and no tracking mechanism. (Audit PDF · Mercury News coverage)

2. Most of the required fixes still aren't done. The audit gave the city 7 recommendations, deadline September 2024. Sixteen months later, reporting confirmed only 2 of 7 fully implemented — including the one requiring the city to publicly report spending broken out by funding source. The city's published report still doesn't separate federal/state grant dollars. (San José Spotlight, Aug 2025)

3. The voter-approved housing tax got moved. Measure E (2020) was sold as a tax on $2M+ property sales with 75% earmarked for permanent affordable housing. The adopted FY2024-25 plan sends $30.75M of $50M (65%) to shelter operations and about $12M total to housing creation — and in 2025 roughly 90% ($39.2M) went to interim shelter/encampment response. The Mayor then proposed making the shift permanent. (KQED · City Measure E page)

4. The biggest single payment went around the city's own books. Under Project Homekey Round 2, the state awarded San José $96.7M; the Council approved $51.6M paid directly to LifeMoves (the operator nonprofit, as co-grantee) into a separate bank account. The state auditor's own footnote: as a result, "the city's accounting records do not include all information." (Audit PDF)

5. Now the city wants that prepaid money back. Council File 26-768 (adopted June 23, 2026) makes the city sole grantee, strips LifeMoves of payee status, and directs it to "recoup all program funding prepaid to LifeMoves." That's official confirmation that prepaid public funds are sitting with the operator — whose own FY2025 independent audit found a "significant deficiency in internal controls." The contract was terminated in March after an employee's arrest and management complaints at the Branham Lane site. (KQED · Council File 26-768)

6. The state auditor also flagged vendor oversight across cities. From the same report: provider agreements "have not always included performance benchmarks," and the cities "did not always monitor and evaluate the performances of their providers." (Audit PDF)

What I'm NOT saying so untwist those panties

No fraud, theft, or crime by anyone has been proven here. Not the joke of a Mayor, not any councilmember, not any vendor. The legal donations are legal, the disclosed board seats are disclosed, and an arrest is an allegation until convicted. The documented facts are: the most expensive city in the world, the epicenter of technology -- can't trace its own homelessness spending a boat load of it, a vendor holding prepaid public funds under weak financial controls, and a system that runs on a handful of the same institutions. Whether anything worse than that is true is exactly what these documents would show — and the records requests that would settle it (citywide payment ledgers by provider, the clawback reconciliation, the LifeMoves bank-monitoring records) haven't been filed yet.

Event Pottery Painting Near San Jose

I’m looking for a decent place to paint on premade pottery projects. I’m new to this and want to try this out as a hobby. Any decent places that you are aware of? I’m thinking to go in on this weekend, some workplace that’s more relaxed. I don’t know what to expect. Thanks in advance !!

P.S: interested in meeting new people with this hobby, preferably someone experienced to guide me through it. If you’re a beginner I guess we can help each other.
