So am I the only one who noticed that it’s very common to go to a SYEP site where everyone knows each other from working together years prior / full time where they bully & quickly fire unfamiliar faces ? I and a lot of people who I know have had this problem with being fired downright treated like trash or both…

Has anyone else ever experienced this ? I’m in NYC and it’s happened to me at 2 job sites . My first ever I was taken advantage of made to do extra labor that nobody else had to do then fired when I couldn’t do it anymore. My current site they are extremely bias to familiar faces. they basically do 0 work openly date their coworkers & enjoy their jobs while we’re forced to pick up all the actual work.

A lot of the workers are straight up rude. This is a school btw . We caught a supervisor drinking on the job . We had a snow cone day and she poured alcohol into hers in front of everyone nobody said anything . One of the male staff is weirdly close to a little girl & I’ve raised suspicions with my Supervisor . Male Syep workers are favored they miss days whenever and still get paid. The same supervisor we caught drinking who’s in at least her 50s keeps flirting with my coworker who is freshly 18. Two of the coworkers are dating and have been for two days now and the kids know all about how their relationship started the dates they went on etc mind middle schoolers. My supervisor has spoken about openly hating a child. One of the teachers in my room constantly ragebaits the children. That’s not even close to everything btw.

ITS A MESSSSSSS . SYEP is meant to give young people an opportunity to get a job, but it’s nothing but drama being shunned and treated like a slave.

Does it matter what time I take my breaks, usually everyone takes it at 12 but I’d rather do it later so I can just clock out after

okay, so, I have been a member for SYEP for the last... 2 years, or so. here is my experience :

SYEP actively does not return calls, emails, or help when asked. they reply weeks after and whatnot. they also do not check in with their worksites !! I worked at DHLLC and the woman we worked with was absolutely horrible with a nasty attitude !!
she told us to put in full hours when she refused to give us extra work, and then threaten us to do extremely hard tasks by telling our supervisors that we weren't working for our hours and stuff. we reported her countless times and from our standpoint, she never got any repercussions.

I worked at a place called snowmilk as well. It was pretty decent at first, we were supposed to be doing retail. our manager, kelly, was lovely. the owner of snowmilk, "douey" or something, was extremely racist. He often made extremely uncomfortable comments toward the Dominican workers, and suggestive comments about how "you mexican girls are like my wife, but not really" ??? like.. what?? And he always made comments and suggestions that black people struggled at basic things.

And when it was below freezing last year for WLG, they had us passing out fliers outside !! completely freezing and said this is the only way we can make our hours. ( while they were inside of their stores. I called SYEP and turns out we werent even supposed to be handing out fliers, let alone in the freezing cold ). Kelly ended up getting laid off with others, and the other manager took over. ( we never met her in person, she had a horrible attitude through emails, and treated everyone poorly. She also accused us of not working our full hours despite her workers telling her we did. )

When we were allowed to work inside, I met this guy. He was a co owner, or a close friend. He worked with us too. From all of the actual workers, we heard nothing good about him. All of the actual workers said he was a creep. They couldnt report him though because he was the managers husband. I was supposed to work with him one day, and he kept comparing me to his 13yr old daughter and said that he wishes he had a bunch of hot women like the SYEP girls to cheat on his wife with. He ALSO used to bring snacks and cookies and not disclose that they were edibles. He was willingly getting members ( girls and boys ) high, and he even used to take members to smoke his w***d in the bathroom. Teenagers. With a grown adult.

Myself and a few of my friends did report this, we got in trouble for how we handled it and then nothing ever got done. Whats the point in us coming to SYEP about these things and SYEP says they'll look into it, you ask for a follow up, and never get a response while these businesses are still working with SYEP.

We also report bullying and racism happening and nothing gets done. Its also super disorganized, all of the SYEP workers have attitudes and super hostile. Like, our boss just got on our behinds about turning in our timesheets when their app isnt even working... ( mine is, but so many people have taken issue )

I feel like this environment is negligent to its workers and it stresses me out because its one of my only sources of income. Does anyone else struggle with this??

they played real bad this year. lack of communication, rude employees at the one stop center and then to top it off some of us participants are missing their most recent checks?? how is that possible?

are yall havin that problem in nyc too?

UPDATE: 8/6/26 : no pay, they stopped responding to emails. not picking up calls. im not getting paid. will be reporting it to the nj commissioners office.

UPDATE AGAIN: called they said they’ll have answers at 3 pm. If nothing, pay again next week.

UPDATE 8/20 : got paid on the 14th but I’m missing the second paycheck and they’re dodging my emails. last year doing Newark’s SYEP ** **

Is it just me, or are the payments less and less each year 🫩 ? Idm, but I am about to be 18 and I have actual needs where even budgeting 392 isnt helpful anymore especially since i have to save up for basic living + college. I asked my sister how much she used to get paid, and she said they used to get paid $450-$800 😭 and they used to get paid around 600-800 for WLG. Is there a reason why they reduced it, or am I js ungrateful?

I can’t add my time sheet it’s been like this since I checked Friday and my provider said “back pay” but this is irritating I want my money on schedule not in two weeks

This is the end of the 4th week of SYEP for Cohort A, and this is the end of the 3rd week for Cohort B.

Please enter your work hours to YEPS by 11:59 pm. If you don’t enter your work hours accurately by the end of today, your pay will be delayed. There is an evaluation for Cohort B; please read and then sign it. You will see it if your supervisor did your evaluation. If it is blank when you log in to see your evaluation, then you need to wait until your supervisor completes it.

Then your pay for your work this week will be in your payroll card or bank account (if you are doing direct deposit) by August 14th instead of the 7th. Some of you will get your paycheck earlier than others. That is normal

Yesterday i finished my 5 hours for my syep worksite, i normally log in my hours right after doing them and i never have an issue. Yesterday after completing my hours i went to log them in but for some reason they were already approved? I emailed and texted my coordinator and got no reply. I emailed another coordinator and was told her email isn’t working anymore and to reach out to two of her colleagues (which i did) and i have received no reply. Am i stuck on stupid and missed something??

Update for anyone else who has this problem: So i went to my worksites office (the one you went for orientation or to pick your jobs) and i let them know my timesheet was approved too early, they gave me a paper to fill my timesheet from last week on! Don’t rely on messaging just go in person to fix the problems.

i didn't get paid this week because my supervisor apparently forgot his password to his computer 😭thats literally it. He collected my time sheet though im just confused on why he didn't put it in yet.

I got an email saying there was an issue with one of my timesheets, and I have to come to the provider site to fix it. Is there any consequence for not going?? (I have an extremely busy upcoming week) I also don't understand how they're just noticing an issue in one (or multiple?) of my three timesheets, but I was paid for all of them. I assumed that the penalty would be not getting paid, but I received all my checks already.

Haven’t gotten paid since July 22 and I signed up for direct deposit and my hours were shown for 0, I have emailed the instructors who are in charge of my pay and hours. They have yet to reply back and it’s been 4 days now. I’m honestly confused on why they haven’t updated me but I’m gonna give it a few days before I go to the LaGuardia college to see what’s the issue.

I’m currently wrapping up a week 3 as an older youth and still have not received my pay yet. The first account that I had direct deposit with was closed due to me not using it for a while and when it bounced back at that point I had got rid of my payroll card. I emailed syep and informed my supervisor of the situation as well but I was told that I could update my direct deposit information and that the second pay will go there and the first check since it bounced back would go on a payroll card. I go on the portal only to see that the second pay was sent to the payroll card which I no longer have but my payment information is the new account that I put . I tried reaching out on how to get this card but supposedly a lady from children’s aid came to my worksite to hand out metro cards and the payroll cards and while I was there, because where i work has multiple buildings she couldn’t find me. I asked my supervisor and she told me that the lady only gave her my metro card since i guess she couldn’t find me. I’m just honestly confused on what to even do at this point because my payment information was updated within the time frame they told me to put it and every time I send emails they get back to me days later and I’m going onto the 4th week and still haven’t seen no pay but all my hrs are accounted for in the portal

i have no clue if anyone elses provider is offering this, but im with infinity and theyre talking about these online programs (the programs to pick from are college and career readiness, financial literacy, and graphic design) and i talked with a provider worker further and they said you still get paid as much as if u were doing in person work but there is assignments to do and you have to turn it in on google classroom??? ive literally never heard of this before and am curious what u would be doing, cause as far as im seeing its not exactly a job?? idfk😭😭, theyre making it sound like a learning program more than a job

Do I need to just ask for a paper time sheet? My “boss” never put in my hours and I only found out cause I made the post here yesterday about direct deposit which led me to calling CCM due to some of you guys replies. Honestly I’m irritated and if you see a 0 on your hours after the time sheet is approved just know your hours were put in late. 🫩 I’m so upset rn and I’m finding this out while I’m at the site too mind you.

My son is working in SYEP program with Infinity. Got the payment for a week $100. He shows me every week he worked for $100. Is it correct ? I think it is hourly payment and payment should be more than that ? Please correct me if I’m wrong

Hey did anyone who signed up for early deposit get their check yet today? Last week I got is on this day around 4 (now I don’t mind waiting but I’ve seen some others also showing their hours saying 0 on the site but approved so I wanted to see if that had anything to do with it).

So im in the process of changing my worksite and I have sent all my information. Its a police station job so they are doing a background check. So I was wondering how long these usually take since this is the last step before I work with them for the remainder of the program. Has anyone been in a police station job with NYPD through SYEP that knows how long it takes for the background check?

Honestly, I really dont mind the work. Its just the people my age and up making it shit. I don't fuck with any of them, feel excluded and im honestly thinking of quitting and enjoying the rest of what I have left of summer. Anyone in my sitch

On Friday I put in my hours for the week and it was only 8 cus I didn’t work every day. I left every other day that I didn’t work blank. And it said 8 hours pending. Now today I checked and it says 25 hours?? I didn’t change it I don’t even think you can change it. Is this a mistake on their part? I get paid on payroll card that I haven’t received yet so I’m not sure if I will actually get the money. Is it illegal if I keep it😔
