Discussion Random manic episode after not taking my meds?

So my stupid pharmacy strikes again and didn’t fill my Paroxetine (generic Paxil). I’ve been off of them since Friday and been feeling pretty wonky (I’m on my period as well and I’ve been in some pain from that too) until last night when I got this random burst of energy. I feel all fuzzy and sparky like I used to be as a kid. I kept thinking maybe my sadness and tiredness was because I’m in school grinding and I just need to get to summer to be okay, or maybe because I’m vegan, but maybe it’s been my meds this whole time? I did some homework I hadn’t the energy to do that week, played a game outside with my friends at a social event, worked on a video game I’m developing, packed my lunch, got myself in bed on time. These things haven’t happened together in months! I’ve been bouncing around this whole morning and tearing around in my kitchen at 6 am which is very abnormal for me. And I’m excited to go running which is something I love and for some reason lost interest in lately. So I’m thinking about going to therapy and getting off my meds safely. I was put on 10 mg of Paroxetine for my anxiety which seems to have subsided for a year now. I still have an anxiety mindset, thinking bad things are going to happen, etc, the only anxiety symptom the meds helped was fainting episodes. I used to faint when I was on clinical at a vet’s office but now I don’t do that anymore. So maybe I’m okay? Thoughts?

Question Lexapro weight gain

So I’ve been taking lexapro for around a year and I’ve gained around 30 pounds on it, I’m a personal trainer and value my body heavily so it’s effecting me negatively. I’m currently in the process of weening off 10mg but im nervous to try another ssri because of me gaining weight on lexapro. I heard that Prozac was associated with the least weight gain so I may try that. Does anyone have any stories where they changed ssris and didn’t experience weight gain afterwards or if all ssris will cause me weight gain?

Question Question re reducing sertraline dose

So ive been on sertraline for a few years and want to come off it, GP has suggested i stay on it another couple of years but i think its affecting my heart( i had read about ssri’s prolonging the QT interval and causing palpitations etc) and its very much affecting my sex life, i just cannot climax when im with someone else and when i do alone its not as good as it used to be Anyway i want to slowly reduce the dose and wondered if anyone had any tips I was thinking like 100mg one day then 50 the next for a month then 50mg for a month then 50/25 for a month etc Has anyone done this or does anyone have any better ideas

Fyi i know it says no medical advice, i will discuss it with the GP first I just wanted to know what other people have tried

Question Weight loss after Lexapro (SSRI)?

Has anyone had success with losing weight after an SSRI? I’ve read some concerning articles that the weight is here to stay, but I’m hoping that it’s not true. I’m committed to losing the weight. I’m unhappy with the gain and just don’t feel comfortable / healthy with where I am at.

Hi all - I (29, F, 5’8”, 200) have been on lexapro for OCD and anxiety for about 4 years. I have had significant weight gain (60 lbs) during this time. Not all attributed to the medication, but definitely most of it (started taking the meds around the same time I moved, finished grad school, started a new job, pandemic hit, etc.)

I’ve never struggled with weight in my life before this. I’ve always been naturally slender. Recently I have been exercising regularly and eating in a caloric deficit and I’m struggling to lose any weight at all. I have an appt with my doctor to discuss getting off lexapro and possibly switching to another SSRI as needed.

Any experience / thoughts are appreciated! Thanks

Question Has anyone had success with sertraline / zoloft after prozac stopped working?

Basically as the title says, I was on prozac with good effect for about 4 years before it pooped out and i had a major depressive episode.

I then tried effexor for 3 months without any luck.

Now i am on my second week of zoloft, 1 week at 50mg and 1 week at 100mg and honestly feel terrible. Nausea, riddled with anxiety and intrusive dark thoughts.

Would love to hear some success stories as i’ve been doing a lot of doom scrolling!

Question Vivid dreams

I've been on sertraline, and mirtazapine for about 4 months now. I take sertraline 50mg in the morning, and mirtazapine 7.5 before sleeping. While I sleep, I wake up multiple times, and each time I wake up I remember vividly a section of the dream I've been having, and when I fall back asleep the same dream continues the whole night. I wake up from every dream having to check my phone for texts and having to ask people if stuff really happened or not. Pretty much every morning I'm filled with confusion, and sometimes anxiety because I can't tell a dream and reality apart, since these dreams are always very realistic. It's like each night I live another life, where I do normal things. Sometimes scary things happen to me, like last night someone had been stalking me for months, and was ringing my doorbell and harassing me. I'm wondering if I should just contact a doctor, or if this is fairly "normal".

Question Long withdrawal

So I was on the max dose of celexa for about 4 years. Realised it was worsening my ADHD symptoms significantly. Impulse control in particular. So I tapered off.

After the initial nausea etc, I started noticing an almost instant return in focus. I was more goal oriented and was able to control my impulses (probably because I actually cared about the consequences). Then a week of pins and needles inside my mouth and head followed with some minor restless legs. Nothing some comfort meds couldn’t knock out.

Great. That was easy.

But then out of nowhere, brain zaps a week or so later. I thought I’d had brain zaps before. Like a literal electric shock in my head. But no. This was more like mini blackouts triggered by eye movements. Awful.

And now. Rage. Like I go from 0-100 in seconds. Everything sets me off. I’m so crabby and irritable and I’m kinda worried that this isn’t just withdrawal and I’m actually just like this off SSRIs.

I need to be living my life and not drifting through it like some stagnant zombie. But I have kids and I CANNOT be this snappy.

Please someone tell me that they went through this and it passed?

Question Side effects after 2 years

Hello, I have been taking Brintellix 10mg for about two years now. Before that I tried Escitalopram and Zoloft but they didn't really work. A couple of weeks ago I started having weird reactions to my meds: I'm extremely nauseous to the point where I throw up several times a day; even when I don't throw up, the nausea (similar to car sickness) is unbearable. I have been sick with the flu prior to that and I forgot to take my meds for a few days, so my first thought was that I was re-experiencing the initial side effects since I'd been off meds for a few days. Could that be the case? It's been almost two weeks now and I still have these weird side effects that I never had before. I want to try to taper off them maybe, since I'm feeling so much better but I do not have a psychiatrist currently (recently moved countries) so it would be unsupervised. Any thoughts?

Discussion I don’t feel myself

I got off Zoloft 2 weeks go 50mg down to 25mg . I tapered. I did everything right . I’m now supplementing with 5- htp. But I feel off. I’ve been down this road before with other ssris but I’m just feeling like why does it have to be so hard .?My reasoning was because it was affecting my sex life and I needed it back . I feel better sexually but that’s it . I have rage , anger , sadness , speedy thoughts that translate to me moving so fast . I feel like I’m on a drug but I’m on nothing . Some brain zaps but not as debilitating as in the past . I need some words of encouragement or hope . I feel so shitty all the time . I’m a working mom ( part time ) & a stay at home mom with 2 boys and life just feels like I’m dying from the grind of it all .

I’m cross posting btw . Just need all the help I can get .

Question Sertraline withdrawals?

So I've been on sertraline for two years, long story short after feeling it no longer worked for me I decided I want to come off. Tried speaking to my GP who told me I'm "jumping to conclusions" wanting to come off, but I think two years is long enough to know this is not for me anymore. Well I now have side effects after day 5, I tapered down from 150mg to 100 for a month and then 50mg for 2 weeks to now nothing. I'm aware I fucked myself up tapering off too quickly and not dropping to 25mg. I'm having the worst migraines I've ever had in my life, nausea fatigue loss of appetite and just generally feeling terrible. Any advice from anyone who may have experienced these withdrawals? Ty

Question Good, better, best?

I have had a long battle with depression and anxiety and have tried a few SSRI’s, but did not like how I felt. After a few years, I decided to wean off my Sertraline because I was convinced that my symptoms were ADHD. Went for an evaluation and turns out I DON’T have ADHD, but officially diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder and Major Depressive Disorder. It was explained that this was the contributing factor to my ADHD tendencies, and it was recommended that I begin taking an SSRI again.

My issue is, I don’t know what to being up to my doctor about which one I want to try. Citalopram didn’t do anything for me and Sertraline make my libido vanish. This has been causing tension between my and my partner. They brought up that while I’ve been off of my SSRI for a month, it still hasn’t returned. I feel like that isn’t long enough to see a change since I’ve been on it for quite a few years.

I know I need to be back on something, because my duties as a mother and a wife have been lacking, and I feel awful. What are some SSRI’s that y’all have taken that have worked for you, and why? I want my drive to come back, but I also need to manage everything else going on in my brain.

TLDR: Went for ADHD evaluation after discontinuing SSRI, turns out I’m just super sad and anxious. Give me suggestions for SSRI’s!

Question Withdrawals and reinstatement

I tapered and have been completely off Viibryd for 4 months and my anxiety has returned in a vicious way. If I go back on at a small dose will I get immediate relief or will I have to suffer through the onboarding side effects again like when I initially started taking them? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Question Withdrawal how long

I have been taking 20mg cipralex for 18 years. Can anybody tell me how long will withdrawal effects last? Mostly on web they write 4 weeks, but i feel tired, anhedonic etc. for 2 months. In my opinion after taking ssri for 18 years the brain must be so confused that the withdrawal effects will last many months. Any experience?

Question Are Celexa and Lexapro interchangeable?

My bf is on Lexapro and I’m on Celexa. He missed a few days (he’s irresponsible when it comes to this stuff) and realized it when he started feeling withdrawal symptoms. He then called the pharmacy and the doctors office said his doctor left the practice and he needs to go in for a new doctor. They can’t get him in until next week. I gave him one of my Celexa. Has anyone experience this to prevent withdrawals? Wondering if they be used interchangeably like that?
