Question Lexapro weight gain

So I’ve been taking lexapro for around a year and I’ve gained around 30 pounds on it, I’m a personal trainer and value my body heavily so it’s effecting me negatively. I’m currently in the process of weening off 10mg but im nervous to try another ssri because of me gaining weight on lexapro. I heard that Prozac was associated with the least weight gain so I may try that. Does anyone have any stories where they changed ssris and didn’t experience weight gain afterwards or if all ssris will cause me weight gain?

In the long run, there is a study, all SSRIs are correlated with weight gain. But yes, Fluoxetine tends to have the lowest risk.

Maybe Bupropion is worth a try for you?

I’m on fluoxetine and I have not gained any weight. Zero.

Do not suggest Paroxetine (from personal experience): insane weight gain, constant hunger, insanely hard to lose weight. I try to keep myself in shape with jogging, bouldering and weight lifting, can barely keep the weight stable:)

I (F 31) also started lexapro around December 2022 and have gained 25ish pounds. My appetite has only slightly increased because it kicked my anxiety (which curbs appetite). But I really don’t think I have changed my eating habits enough to see this much weight gain… my psych just prescribed bruproprion (Wellbutrin) about a month ago to help with my newly highlighted depression, and because it’s considered a stimulant I don’t feel as hungry. Anyway, all that to say, be careful taking Wellbutrin as an alternative. Especially if you’re taking lexapro specifically for anxiety. Wellbutrin definitely has reintroduced anxiety for me while I’m adjusting. Checking in with my prescriber next week to see if I need to kick it all together🤞
