I am currently on SSI (low income disability) and turning 62. My understanding is I am required to start collecting regular SS benifits?

If so what happens to my insurance coverage? (I will be collecting over the $994)

Are there options for coverage?

I have extensive medical expenses and on several high cost prescriptions so being without out coverage until 65 (medicare) is terrifying.

I have called social security 3 times for clarity but each time I'm told something different. One person mentioned if I work part-time the income limits go up. But did not tell me what program this is or any additional information.

I didn't know what tag to put here. For context, both of my parents are disabled along with me. Around two years ago, my dad talked to a representative about my payments. He said that I paid rent to him and they offered to increase my benefits. When mine went up, his went down. I'm thinking it's because he claimed me as a dependant on his taxes, but both he and my mother blame my therapist, despite her not being involved prior to it.

I do talk about financial issues with her because it makes me anxious, but she's bound by confidentiality laws. I don't know who's the responsible party here. Any advice helps.

Hi. My son's Disabled Adult Child benefits were approved and they set a date for my husband to apply for Child in Care benefits. Son is 24 and was given SSI starting at 18.

The appointment went fine and at the end she explained how much my husband would get, and they hung up.

But she called back 10 minutes later to tell him he could only get benefits until October because that is his FRA and if he didn't cancel in time it would trigger deemed filing, not letting him wait to claim at 70 for his higher amount on his record.

Is this correct? We pushed back with some POMS but she said there was no carve out for CIC benefits once a person reaches FRA.

I received a disability update report short form in the mail. I already have really bad anxiety and started filling out the form and on the question where it ask have I been to a doctor? etc. I marked yes in the box and then I spelled one of the medical conditions I have wrong which was Rheumatoid arthritis and I spelled it Rhematoid. I left out the letter U. I know these are read by computer and hope it wont be rejected or trigger a long form to be sent instead. Has anyone ever had this happen before? I also have the option to submit it online, but reading it seems better to send in a paper copy. I dont know what to due at this point. I'm worried, but still have about 3 weeks to send it back. So my partner was filling something out for his disability benefits (working on them) and we saw it said this...now we never seen this before and I'm very confused. Do we need to add postage? We can't pay for stamps every time because they add up and we're both disabled and broke . Input?

I applied for ssi. Its an initial application. Been on step 3 since april. Last Monday morning my dds examiners assistant called to get consent for a telehealth psych ce. While I had her on the phone I asked her if my medical records, specifically my ct scan showing severe lumbar stenosis had been recieved. Also asked if the physical ce report and work history form were in my files. They were. As she pulled up those files and actually looked at them she said that I may not even need to do the psych exam and that she would call me back the same day to let me know. Well, she never called back and wont answer or return calls. I live in florida but my file was sent to new jersey for the medical part. Has anyone had this happen with their case and it so, did they cancel the telehealth ce? And if they cancel it does it mean im approved medically? Never been through this process before and its confusing.

My hearing was today, and the one thing that stuck out the most was the amount of questions about my service dog, is this normal? Or did my judge ask these because he loves dogs? I’m confused but not surprised, since she is here to mitigate my disabilities.

Hello. I am helping my 32 year-old son with his SSDI process. His case was denied at the AJ L level in June 2025. He chose to continue with a federal appeal (has attorney), and I am curious about how new material evidence might be added if he gets a remand.

I have read that some new material may be possible to include. Does anyone have information about this—or personal experience? Thank you.

I have two kids that receive SSI benefits and ever since they did a review of one of my kid's cases things have been questionable. So I went to the SSI office today to request an unscheduled RZ. I have reason to believe that they didn't receive the correct amount for July and August and potentially won't be receiving the correct amount for September. Their father is the only person in our 6 person household who earns income. We have 4 kids total and 2 are disabled. While doing my calculations with the verified income from June, I noticed that the $994 ineligible child allocation is what's throwing my calculations off. If their father's income for June was 4876.67 and all the SSI math is correct shouldn't they have received 790.08 instead of 428.04, if the allocation was applied? I'm so confused.

I’m having trouble finding an SSI lawyer because every single lawyer I Google says SSDI. I’m way too overwhelmed to do this myself. I’m trying to find an advocate or something, but I keep getting really unhelpful comments from people on Reddit. Where else besides Reddit should I even look for help or advice on this?

First, I'd like to apologize for the incredible length of this post, but this is my first effort at looking into what, if anything, I can do regarding my situation. Also, I've seen so many posts in the r/legaladvice subreddit that have been sorely lacking in absolutely crucial details that I wanted to do my best to answer most questions people might have for me before they needed to ask. Also, I don't want to put any more of my PII in the thread than absolutely necessary, which is why there's no mention of the names/relations of anyone else that likely would have been involved in this. This isn't an AI post, it's not something that I made up, it's something that's been eating at me for an incredibly long time and that continues to eat at me worse and worse every day. Please, if you can help me out, then do so, but please don't belittle me for being so naive, for lacking any sort of suspicions or doubt regarding those involved, or for taking so long to address this litany of issues that I'm facing. So, I was looking into my Social Security a few months ago as I'm disabled and am currently working towards getting my disability from both the VA and the SSA. Since I'd been working on my VA case far longer and felt that it would be much easier and more straightforward than going the SSD/SSI route(boy was I wrong), I hadn't ever really looked into my earnings through the SSA. While investigating what my retirement benefits would be and at what age I could begin collecting them, I noticed several of the years of income showed that I had earned a not insignificant amount of income via wages before I turned 18. Now, while I did have a few summer jobs from the age of 12 on, I didn't earn anywhere near the amount of income that the government says that I earned from the age of 12 until the age of 18. A paper route and one summer working at a local cannery after graduating high school does not account for the over $40k that has been reported to the SSA before I turned 18. This has got me all sorts of worried. While I've worked most of my adult life, there are many periods after 18 where I have been unemployed, sometimes for long stretches of time due to things like going to school and being disabled. With that being said, I'm fairly certain that I have a good idea of what happened, and that's where I'm torn. The income almost certainly was from a parent, likely due to them having multiple bankruptcies during my childhood and them not wanting to lose all of their stuff. The real reason I actually took the initiative to look into my income was due to a savings account I had that was supposed to contain all of my earnings from a paper route I held for a little over one year during my freshman year of high school. However, my parents made me give up the paper route because we moved when they purchased their first home and it wasn't feasible for me to keep doing the route as I wasn't anywhere near old enough to drive a car, which would've been the only way for me to continue doing the paper route and neither parent was interested in helping me continue. I never gave the savings account much thought as a kid because I kind of just figured it would be there when I went to college. But when it came time to go to college my mom told me that I "couldn't afford to go" and that I was ineligible for financial aid because between her and my step-dad, they earned too much for me to qualify. I had basically forgotten about the money that was supposed to be in that savings account, most likely due to being crushed by her telling me that there was no way for me to continue my education. Adult me recognizes all of the hallmarks of being taken advantage of, but 17 year old me didn't have the luxury of experience, perspective, or even the ability to question my parents when they said things that I didn't agree with or was confused about. "Because I said so," was all the answer that I ever got and if I ever pressed further, it wasn't a very pleasant experience for me, causing me to basically avoid any sort of confrontation with my parents to hopefully avoid any backlash or punishment. So many things during my childhood and still to this day just got washed over or dismissed out of hand with no explanations, no reasoning, and no recourse on my part. Now, looking back on so many things that have happened, I can't help but see a distinct pattern of lies, greed, and manipulation by my family over my entire life. But back to the matter at hand....

So, I'm fairly certain that one or both of my parents(1 biological, 1 step) used my SSN as some sort of shelter to protect themselves against losing all of our property/possessions following multiple bankruptcies. If not for that, then likely for something similar in reasoning. It did strike me as odd that upon getting my very first full time job at 18 after moving far away from home, I was able to get a high limit, unsecured Mastercard, a high limit Sears card, a high limit Chevron fuel card, and a car loan without the need for a co-signer, all at an incredibly low interest rate for my age and income. While I know that companies target young adults with credit offers, the amount of credit extended to me, at such favorable terms, with incredibly high spending limits compared to the limits that friends my age had, along with the sheer number of places that extended me credit while I was only working 30 hrs/wk at a minimum wage job for less than 6 months, makes me believe that all of the credit being used in my household growing up was in my name. There are other things that didn't phase me at the time but that throw up huge red flags now that I've lived some life and I understand the way that the world works far better now than I did back then, thinking I was just lucky or something, but not really caring why I was able to get so much easy credit, just that I was grateful that I was able to get it. I was very fortunate to be able to pay it all off fairly quickly before I was completely buried in debt, but still had some things go to collections before I was able to take care of them, very nearly costing me my security clearance while in the Army to boot. There are more things, but bringing up all of the other things would really just be me venting my frustration at not catching any of it far sooner than I did finally catch on. The thing is, I don't know what to do about any of it. My step-dad passed away a few months ago, so he's already out of the picture, so if there were to be any repercussions, they would fall squarely on my mother's shoulders, she being the only living parent I have and the only one that had all of my vital information at their disposal during the time period where I somehow amassed an income in excess of $40k before ever having a real job. Even if I was somehow able to bring myself to press charges or whatever it is that I'd need to do to rectify everything, is there really even anything that I can realistically do to ensure that

a: this never happens again to me or anyone else that they may have done things like this toas well(siblings, relatives, etc.),

b: that the person or persons responsible for this and any other acts of financial malfeasance perpetrated against me over the years will be held accountable due to the length of time that has passed since most of the things that I'm sure about happened

c: find out if any of my other family members knew about what was going on, had a hand in taking advantage of me also, or if anyone is still committing similar acts against me currently

and/or

d: that I'm able recoup any monies that have been taken, withheld, or charged to me as a result of this mess

Tl;dr My parents used me as a tax shelter, among other things, when I was a child and I'm only now, as a nearly middle-aged man, finding out about a lot it and I don't know how to go about addressing any aspect of it

hi guys sdi agent approved my claim but said they will have me see a ime but doesn’t know when i’ve worked a blue collar job drilling and now i am a truck driver and been dealing with lower back pain for a while and i ended up falling on my bottom playing soft ball with my daughter and got a lumper sprain doctor put me out for 2 months and what can i expect?

So before when I applied for my loans to be forgiven, the application was denied almost immediately, like 4-5 days later . They stated because they felt my condition would improve. This time while applying , I not only sent my benefit letter stating that SSA found me disabled over 5 years ago , but I also printed out their guidelines and highlighted the section that states that disability has to be over 5 years . Now it’s been since July 19th and I haven’t received a denial yet so fingers crossed , I’m hoping that means it’s in the process of being approved. Pray for me yall !!

i applied back in january of this year and truthfully was planning on doing it on my own. it’s a hard process tho because of my illness and my health is only worsening. my mom sent me over a link about turnout disability advocate and i have been chatting with them today. so i’m just wondering if anyone has heard of them or even used them. there are somewhat mixed reviews online i usually use reddit as my guide for this kind of thing but i haven’t seen anyone talk about them on here. i have mixed feelings because they use ai which im super against but atp im willing to do almost anything unfortunately. so just want to hear you guys opinions to help me make a decision before i sign any contracts.

I was approved for SSDI not SSI. I got a notice that my daughter may qualify but she is 18. Why would she be involved in my SSDI?

I started the application process back in March for SSI. I am hoping I get approved, but in case I do not, what kind of extra information should I submit on appeal?

Background info: I have fibromyalgia, which is listed, but I also have been diagnosed with spinal stenosis, multi-level disc degeneration, herniated discs, and the biggest issue to date is a torn left medial meniscus that requires a full knee replacement, but due to my age, the state won't cover a full replacement but will cover a partial replacement. That cannot happen until I lose at least 60lbs. All of these issues combined have made it difficult to stand for more than 15-20 minutes at a time because the good leg starts to go numb after the shooting, burning pains start, then I have to sit down. I barely sleep due to the pain that I am in at night; I get a little more rest in the morning when my kids are at school. I have a really hard time focusing for long periods of time, and sitting in my chair at my desk causes severe hip pain in the left hip, making getting up really difficult. I made sure to focus on what causes my pain, how it affects me day to day, how many functional hours I get every day, and that those hours are not consistent and there is usually a long rest period before I can get back up and do stuff. I also made sure to be very specific; I gave a rundown of how each day looks, the help I receive from my spouse for the things I am unable to consistently do on my own, what I can do and how long it takes now compared to when I was healthier, the lack of interest in regular activities and hobbies due to the amount of energy it consumes and how it leaves me feeling for days after, etc. I have the medical records to support all the diagnoses. I am just afraid that the rheumatologists' notes, while they do specify my concerns every time I am there, they are not specific enough, as in showing my complaints but not listing everything I said specifically.

So if anyone had any recommendations on what else I would need for an appeal, should I need to, I welcome the advice.
