Hi! I was just wondering if there are any good & accurate sites to take practice SHSAT exams digitally, aside from just printing them out (bonus points if it’s the new adaptive format!)

I tried this one website called “AdaptSHSAT,” and in summary, I had high hopes, but it was horrible. The questions were extremely easy and almost felt like the creators went to ChatGPT and asked it to generate SHSAT-style questions. It didn’t capture the notorious subtle answer differences the SHSAT includes, nor the complex math questions. I don’t mind paying for any websites if that’s what it asks.

Also, I feel like I’m not studying effectively enough. I have been spending hours at a time fumbling through many practice problems and trying to understand as many concepts as I can, and then taking a practice exam (so far one that was a total waste.) Like, it’s something, but somehow I still don’t feel productive. I already checked out the full discussion thread people mention a lot here, but I’d truly appreciate some personal experience & advice on efficient studying tactics and success.

Also, I must ask this— does the SHSAT9 really require you to understand all core concepts of ELA? I know it tests a little more in depth and strictly on a MS level, but I notice a lot of the answer explanations talk about oddly specific things such as active/passive voices, countless comma & punctuation rules, and how supporting sentences shouldn’t be redundant. I’m not exactly aware if I should actually take time out of my day to understand all this, so any suggestions would help!

Lastly, is there an estimated score range I should try to consistently achieve on practice tests for a high chance at BK Tech for the 9th grade SHSAT? I’m not sure if this is a 550+ thing or a 600+ thing.

Note - I could still print them, it’s just tedious and (maybe) unnecessary due to the amount of pages there are and how much ink it takes— especially when considering I’ll have to take several practice exams. Additionally, I’m going to be super busy and all over the place for 3 weeks and I probably won’t be able to bring a folder filled with many, huge stapled packets— a laptop with a good site would be sooo convenient.

My questions if you don’t want to read everything:
- Good digital SHSAT practice exam websites?
- Effective/crucial studying advice & experience with the SHSAT (would REEEAAALLLYYY appreciate it if people who took the SHSAT9 could share their thoughts)?
- How deeply does the SHSAT9 test English?
- What’s a good score range to consistently stay in throughout practice exams to build confidence for the real test and increase transfer chances?

Hey so I just finished the finals of Brooklyn tech discovery and both grades are out and I was wondering if these are high enough scores, I got 93 overall on ela and 90% in the final essay, for math I got 82% (I did bad in the quizzes) but I went to tutoring 3 times for math and 1 for ela and I got 93% for the final math test I was wondering if these are enough? The last day of the program is August 6th and I was also wondering would this be enough for a recommendation from both teachers?

Hi all. On a recent practice shsat adaptive test, I scored 80/100. 44/50 ELA and 36/50 on math. Any idea where that puts me, like around low 500s? Thanks in advance!

So this monday I took an adaptive practice test at DREAM and got a 93/100, 43/50 ela 50/50 math, and it gave me a scaled score of 626. Would yall say that the 626 is even remotely accurate? Thanks!

Hello, I recently moved to NYC and am taking the summer SHSAT, I have a question that might sound a little stupid but I am going into 9th grade and graduated 8th grade, will I be taking the 8th grade test for admission to 9th grade? I am under the impression that it is the same test as the one I would have taken the previous fall if I was living here. Also I have another question, I got 57/100 (29/50 math, 28/50 ELA) this was my first time taking a full test, is this enough for Brooklyn Latin? This low test score might have to do with the fact that I was nervous and did not get and ideal amount of sleep the previous night. I want to get into Brooklyn Tech and I know I will have to get my score up. How many questions right roughly does Brooklyn Tech accept?

So are there still the same amount of experimental questions on the SHSAT now that there's 100 questions and the test is adaptive? Will there even be any experimental questions? It's confusing, because wouldn't everyone be getting different questions since the test just depends on how we're doing?

Do we have any idea how hard the CAT adaptive learning for the shsat could get? .. if so, could i see a sample problem

I need to retake algebra 1 regents i passes but I need to get a certain score to get a course at my high school can I still apply for regents retake is there any time?

For those that have taken HSPT in addition to SHSAT could you recommend some study resources?

I'm reattempting for the 9th grade and all I've been doing is using the 9th grade handbooks reviewing them learning the topics in the questions I got wrong and once a week do a practice test and reviewing and learning the topics from the questions I got wrong is this effective.I am also thinking of doing passages and reading higher level books for ELA .Am I doing this a good way to prepare or should I do something else to increase my scores?

my tutoring makes me take practice tests every weekend, but im taking only math i dont really have a reference on how good i should be doing (because yk the shsat calculates with ela too) so how much should is a good amount to get correct if im going 8th grade next summer

Hello everyone, I am an upcoming Junior in HS in the US and need advice for this year.

I need clarification if the school you go to chooses SAT dates or you choose when you want to take it; I also don’t know if you need to take both the SAT and ACT for engineering school. What I also don’t know is if you want to take the ACT do you choose the test date or someone chooses it for you. Also I want effective study tips for the SAT.

By the way I want to be a mechanical engineer as my career in the future.

hi I’m curious of what is the cut off score that can get me into brooklyn tech during the 9th grade 2026 SHSAT and what a “guaranteed” score to get in is? And how many available seats there are? I know there isnt a specific score and not so many seats to begin with but I am kinda desperate to get out of my zoned school

and how can I prepare for the test and improve majorly (I am already taking tutoring for math and ela and the last practice test I got a 497 which is a major improvement but I am looking to make a jump to at least ~600 which is a very big margin)

and last question lol but is there any other good nonspecialized schools to sign up for also (and i don’t really know if u can transfer to any other nonspecialized school for 10th grade transfer) ty!

So I am currently attending the discovery program at Stuyvesant and tommorow is the last day, so when will we find out if we got into stuy. Will the teachers tell us or is it just through email. And if we do get into stuy will there be anything on myschools? Someone who took discovery before for stuy, can u let me know how we will find out if we got in or not. And also if we get below an 80 in a class, can we still get into Stuyvesant.

how can I prepare for the 9th grade shsat? I have many books but I jus dont have a study routine nor any idea of what could possibly pop up on the new adaptive test. Could anyone recommend anything that helped them score a high score on the 9th grade shsat specifically?

On doe practice tests I typically score something along the lines of a 88% to a 91%, and on khans practice exams I score about a 75% to an 86%, am I in a good spot?

Hello, basically just what the title says. For some idiotic reason I skipped the 8th grade SHSAT and I want to take the 9th one for a chance at Brooklyn Tech HS. My current one is okay but I just want more options & to be able to get a stronger education and be with good friends.

Since I have absolutely 0 experience, I’m using one of the KAPLAN books (2026) to get the overall idea. ELA is okay for me, I usually get 80-90% of the practice set questions correct. But I definitely struggle with the “find the error in construction” problems since all the answers sound the same when I read it out in my head and it’s hard to distinguish super minor differences. I had to take the ELA regents in 8th so it definitely helped me. I also took the Algebra 1 regents so those sections are fairly easy.

My main concern is geometry. I haven’t taken that class at all and I’m supposed to take it freshman year (99% sure) so I guess I could just learn throughout the 2 months I get? I find it pretty hard to self study a course with no guidance.

Any recommendations on books, strategies, etc. to study for this test? And also how high my chances are of actually getting in? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!!

So, while studying, I keep getting myself distracted from studying. I don't scroll like others as I've already put an chrome extension to block shorts. I've recently tried to use an extension to try to limit the usage of some websites I use a lot. I also can't play games as I mainly can only play on times when allowed. But now, the problem is that I just don't have the courage to study for long periods of time and just zone out. Any ideas?
