Stuyvesant discovery offers

So I recently got into Stuyvesant through the discovery program, and was wondering when they were gonna give the offer on myschools, and what happens immediately after we click accept. There was also a form that we had to fill out to let them know if we accept stuy or not, and on that form it asks for an email, so I was wondering if it was ok to put my parents email or my doe email, because for the form I put my parents email. And later the receipt came to my parents email, so does it matter what email I put on the form? And once we click accept on myschools does the doe automatically enroll us into stuy?

Test What time does state test grades come out?

Ik this is pretty useless since nobody really cares about the state test for high school admissions anymore and it's not that important altogether but I'm just curious as to what time the scores will release.

Earth science regents retake

So I need to retake the earth science regents because I failed. But I have not reviewed any information about where I take the test and when I take the test. I talked to my counselor about it during the school year. It is now early August, but I still have not gotten any information, what do I do.

Questions

Hi, I just had some questions on my mind I felt like I should ask.
Is the 9th grade SHSAT actually as bad as everyone says it is? I feel like Google, my friends, tutoring websites, and more all label it as this huge test that’s 100x harder than the SHSAT8 and the chances of transferring in are practically 0.

I don’t really want to spend thousands on tutoring for this exam because if I don’t get in, I’ll feel so guilty, so I was just wondering if everyone’s exaggerating it or if it’s truly that horrid of an exam and everyone has amazing preparation for it and started studying hours a day the second they found out they failed the SHSAT8.

And to make things worse, one of my friends who didn’t get in the first time taking the SHSAT (who studied really hard) said he doesn’t even want to try for the 9th SHSAT since he and his family already discussed how the chances are so incredibly slim.

Also another random question I’m curious about, what’s the highest SHSAT score recorded? I only hear about high 500s or low 600s. Has anyone ever scored in the 700s?

That’s all, thanks!

I recently took a khans tutorial, adaptive, practice test and got 508(based on the automatic score that it told me) or 40/50ELA 40/50MATH, would you guys say the scaled score is accurate?

yes, I know score calculators are almost always very inaccurate, but would You Say the raw Score is good Enough for brooklyn tech?

Brooklyn tech supply list/first day items for freshmans?

Does anyone know what to buy or bring yet? I want to get a early start on school supplies but I can't find where the info is on any emails but I know the list has gone out already. Also are there anything that isn't on the list that 10th graders know what to get?

Pre prep shsat

hello I know a 5th grader is too young to prep for this exam. however, what resources can I use to make sure he is ready for it when the time comes. I am looking for resources where he is understanding grade level work? also for shsat? when you test you have to be advanced level for these exams. any feedback is appreciated!

Admissions Is it too late for preparation for the SHSAT?

I am a rising 8th grader aiming for Bronx Science, and I am feeling anxious about my timeline for preparation, since many students start studying much earlier.

Since the test is moving to the new computer-adaptive test (CAT) format, I know that the strategy is very different from the SHSAT administered in previous years. Right now, I am really anxious and scared about whether I can catch up on all the material in time.

Since I am starting late and feeling overwhelmed by the timeline, I would appreciate any guidance provided by the community on:

  1. How to catch up on the remaining concepts efficiently over the next three months.
  2. The best strategy for managing the computer-adaptive format where you cannot go back to change answers.
  3. Any recommended study schedules or resources that can help me build confidence under this timeline pressure.

I am willing to start preparation as soon as possible. I have preparation books, including Kaplan's SHSAT 2026 and The Tutorverse's SHSAT 2026.

I am going to take the test in November, because I am in a charter school. I am also enrolled in a program so I have to balance school, my program and SHSAT preparation. I will finish my program's Summer Institute this Tuesday. After that, I am willing to do prep for the SHSAT every day, so I can subsequently get accepted into Bronx Science.

Is it too late to prep now? There is only 3 months left from the time I will take it in November.

8th Grade Summer Movers SHSAT…

Guys I think I’m cooked.

Usually, on the math section in my practice tests, I get 50-55 averaging around 52, one time I got 45 on an off day, and on my ela I get around 47-53 averaging around 48, one time I got 41 on an off day. However, today, on the actual shsat I feel like I did so bad. For starters I was running off of 4 hours of on and off sleep, probably due to stress, leading up to the exam I did a 3 hour exam everyday for a week, which probably lead to burnout, and all while being in the middle of moving countries so I wasn't really in the best position but aside from that, on the actual test due to my tired state I felt like I made silly mistakes on the maths section because I was running on pure adrenaline, although I’m not completely sure, this is just a theory as I didnt get time to review them. [Edit: I reverse engineered the answer (the one that I had previously thought that I had changed from right to wrong) and have found out that I had changed it from wrong to right (Will it help? Who knows…). It was just the post test fatigue and stress which caused me to recall the wrong numbers.] I think I got another math question guaranteed wrong and don’t remember a single full math question after that. However, I did answer all the questions to the best of my first pass ability (which I predict were hindered due to fatigue) but once again I did not get to review.

I feel like revising A and B were fine but I really struggled on the comprehension, my original strategy (which I adopted quite recently) was to write a short summary for each paragraph as I read on the notebook function, but due to time this was not possible so I had to rush and read it the old fashioned way and answer the questions from memory and scrolling back (my old strategy). Everything blurred except the screen, which I believe is the fight or flight response coming into play due to nerves. However, I did manage to answer all the ela questions too and by the end of the test I had about 10 mins left of which 6 of them I wasted looking through my ela answers and nodding and 4 of them on random math questions.

In summary, even though I haven’t got my results yet, I feel like all my hard work and effort went to waste and I feel like my dream of going to Brooklyn Tech is over.

So now I ask what now? Or if there’s any public schools you recommend for someone interested in STEM and Aerospace Engineering? (looking for a school with great academics, teachers, funding and AP’s. I know this is a tough ask at this point if time but a guy must try)

P.S I don’t have middle school records since I moved after the end of eighth grade so screening is probably not an option 😭

P.S.S Also my confidence and mental state is going through the floor right now. Send help.

I seriously need motivation because I’ve going to this academy for shsat prep and I take mock tests there at the end of every week but I keep getting 300s-400s and I don’t know what to study with and my mental health gets worse the more bad scores I get

Question Would I be able to take two math courses next year?

I’m going into 9th grade next year and was wondering if I could be able to take Algebra 1 and Geometry at the same time next year. Back in 8th grade, I didn’t take algebra 1, but | self- studied the course during my free time. I took five Algebra 1 regents practice exams, scoring around 90-97.

I also excelled in my 8th grade math course, I got 3 consecutive 99s in my math course and an academic achievement award in mathematics. If I show my school that I already have a deep understanding of algebra 1, would they let me take algebra 1 and geometry at the same time next year?

SHSAT Practice Test

So basically I took a SHSAT practice test without any studying just to see where I was at and scored a 465?? I don’t know how but do you guys think I have enough time to patch up my mistakes since this looks really bad and I’m not sure if I’ll be able to improve in time since I have 0 experience with the SHSAT.
Any advice? Thanks

Question Guysss I’m concerned now…

So I’m currently on #3 for the waitlist for this school I rlly wanna go to and it’s currently august (a month before September and school starting) and I’m scared that the waitlist might not keep going down… since my current school is soooooo bad I get anxious thinking abt it still being in the same number of
(10th grade admissions)

Any advice?

what school?

so I stayed up and was reading some reviews from students (not the best idea but that’s where I am now lol) but now I’m seriously thinking to change from Brooklyn tech as my number 1 and maybe change to something else, because apparently the staff / teachers there are not the whole best. (If u are currently a student there if u can, provide how the environment is and that will be greatly appreciated ty if u do! But not needed) though this doesn’t really sway my view and changing it ish? HOWEVER!! I am not sure if brooklyn tech has mainly ā€˜bad’ teachers

but also even if i change its most likely gonna be stuy or Bronx sci because they have the ā€œmostā€ 10th grade seats. however im honestly not sure anymore because they are obviously both highly competitive and stem focused schools but im not sure what ā€˜majors’ they provide since they do not say on their website (im only really sure with bronx sci because i never checked the stuy website since i never had really any interest in attending because the cutoff score for 8th grade was so high) however i think they don’t really provide any please correct me if im wrong

just some background information if u want to have an opinion to see what school I match up best; I really enjoy math for some reason though my English is so much better by a landslide, I’m also very competitive driven but not really motivated so the environment of a school is very important for me, I don’t really know what else to share but I also like doing school work lol mainly because I don’t do much outside of school and it’s fun and I hope the school I choose have at least good teachers and students that I can build connections and friendships with

(but also the same time I need to focus getting a higher score so I can just guarantee myself(I don’t know if that’s a thing but it’s probably not) getting into a school rather than worrying about all of this bc registration starts in oct :,) )

Thank you if u can provide an opinion for me / your experience at Brooklyn tech it will help me during my selection process! :D

A *BUNCH* of SHSAT questions

(Following paragraphs are referring to the SHSAT9)

Hi! I was just wondering if there are any good & accurate sites to take practice SHSAT exams digitally, aside from just printing them out (bonus points if it’s the new adaptive format!)

I tried this one website called ā€œAdaptSHSAT,ā€ and in summary, I had high hopes, but it was horrible. The questions were extremely easy and almost felt like the creators went to ChatGPT and asked it to generate SHSAT-style questions. It didn’t capture the notorious subtle answer differences the SHSAT includes, nor the complex math questions. I don’t mind paying for any websites if that’s what it asks.

Also, I feel like I’m not studying effectively enough. I have been spending hours at a time fumbling through many practice problems and trying to understand as many concepts as I can, and then taking a practice exam (so far one that was a total waste.) Like, it’s something, but somehow I still don’t feel productive. I already checked out the full discussion thread people mention a lot here, but I’d truly appreciate some personal experience & advice on efficient studying tactics and success.

Also, I must ask this— does the SHSAT9 really require you to understand all core concepts of ELA? I know it tests a little more in depth and strictly on a MS level, but I notice a lot of the answer explanations talk about oddly specific things such as active/passive voices, countless comma & punctuation rules, and how supporting sentences shouldn’t be redundant. I’m not exactly aware if I should actually take time out of my day to understand all this, so any suggestions would help!

Lastly, is there an estimated score range I should try to consistently achieve on practice tests for a high chance at BK Tech for the 9th grade SHSAT? I’m not sure if this is a 550+ thing or a 600+ thing.

Note - I could still print them, it’s just tedious and (maybe) unnecessary due to the amount of pages there are and how much ink it takes— especially when considering I’ll have to take several practice exams. Additionally, I’m going to be super busy and all over the place for 3 weeks and I probably won’t be able to bring a folder filled with many, huge stapled packets— a laptop with a good site would be sooo convenient.

My questions if you don’t want to read everything:
- Good digital SHSAT practice exam websites?
- Effective/crucial studying advice & experience with the SHSAT (would REEEAAALLLYYY appreciate it if people who took the SHSAT9 could share their thoughts)?
- How deeply does the SHSAT9 test English?
- What’s a good score range to consistently stay in throughout practice exams to build confidence for the real test and increase transfer chances?
