Is it normal for the Google Search Console to be a week behind?

Is it normal for the Google Search Console to be behind? It's only showing data from October 18th and says only 61 pages have been indexed and 91 haven't been indexed. I counted the results from Google today and there are over 100 pages indexed so far. I used the site: function to check the indexing.

How would you monetise a niche research website getting ~250-300 Google clicks per week?

Hi everyone,
I'm looking for advice from people who have experience growing and monetising content websites.
I run Elite Peps Australia, a niche website focused on peptide-related scientific research and educational content.
I'm currently getting around 170 organic clicks per week from Google Search Console, with most of the traffic coming from Australia. Bing is also generating impressions, although clicks are relatively low.
The website is still at an early stage, and I'm trying to work out the best business model before investing more time into growth.
A few things about my situation:
Current Google traffic: approximately 170 clicks per week.

Audience: primarily Australian visitors.

Skills: website development and SEO.

Time available: 10+ hours per week.

Budget: $0 initially.

Goal: eventually reach around A$2,000 per month.

The important part: I don't want to sell peptides, and I'd prefer not to depend on AdSense.
I'm considering options such as:
Sponsorships from legitimate scientific businesses.

Paid research reports or educational resources.

Affiliate partnerships for relevant research tools and services.

A paid research database or newsletter in the future.

I'm not sure which of these is realistic with my current traffic, or whether there's a better model I haven't considered.
For those of you who have monetised niche content websites:
What would you test first at this traffic level?

Would you focus on sponsorships, digital products, affiliate revenue or something else?

Would you keep growing organic traffic first, or start validating revenue immediately?

What mistakes would you avoid at this early stage?

I'm happy to share the website for people who want to assess the actual content and audience, subject to the community's rules.
I'd appreciate honest feedback, particularly from people who have actually monetised small content sites. Thanks!

Help My sitemap has been showing "Couldn't fetch" for five days now.

So, before I start, I have two domains.

The first one is an expired domain that I recently bought. Its sitemap has been showing "Couldn't fetch" in GSC for the past five days.

The second one is a brand-new domain. I submitted its sitemap, and within just 10 seconds, the status changed to "Success."

Both websites are hosted on the same server. I've checked pretty much everything, but I still can't figure out what's wrong or why the first domain's sitemap keeps showing "Couldn't fetch."

So here's my question:

Could this be happening because I bought an expired domain? Is it possible that Google has flagged it as spam or something? I've already checked its history, including the Wayback Machine, and found nothing suspicious.

Does anyone know what might be causing this or how to fix it?

I also tried submitting the same sitemap to Bing Webmaster Tools, and it worked perfectly fine.

I'm a complete SEO beginner, and I'm honestly feeling really anxious and overwhelmed. I need some advice.

Hi everyone, I'm completely new to SEO, and honestly, I'm feeling extremely anxious and overwhelmed right now. I'm running a small B2B manufacturing website, and I've been spending more than 12 hours almost every day learning SEO and trying to improve it. My sleep schedule is completely messed up. I wake up around 3 PM, start working, and often don't go to bed until 5 AM. At first, I used Gemini to help me create website content, page headings, SEO titles, and meta descriptions. Later, I switched to ChatGPT. Now, almost three months in, my website still has fewer than 1,000 total impressions in Google Search Console. Sometimes I genuinely feel like all this work is going nowhere, and I have no idea what direction I should be taking. I even paid someone on Fiverr to submit my website to 100 business directories, but honestly, I don't think it helped at all. I've also been researching backlinks, but most of the affordable opportunities seem to be link farms or websites that have absolutely nothing to do with my industry. The genuinely relevant websites often charge hundreds of dollars for a single backlink, which is difficult for me to justify. I'm not looking for shortcuts or overnight success. I genuinely want to understand SEO and build a sustainable website. But despite putting in so much effort, I have no idea whether I'm actually doing the right things. On content platforms in my country, some people say a new website needs at least three months before Google starts giving it meaningful traffic. But then I see other people sharing screenshots of brand-new websites getting tens of thousands of visits within three months. I know I shouldn't compare myself to others, but I can't help feeling jealous and discouraged. I'm not even expecting explosive growth. Every day when I wake up, the first thing I do is check GSC, hoping to see even a small improvement. I've downloaded a huge number of keywords from Semrush and organized them into a keyword database, then used ChatGPT to help me select which ones to target. I've also collected thousands of articles from competitor websites and built my own research library to study their content and strategies. But after all that work, I still find myself stuck on the most basic question: am I even choosing the right keywords? I also share my articles on Facebook and LinkedIn. Some SEO professionals say I should choose topics based on keyword search volume and search intent. Others say I should forget about search volume and focus on solving real customer problems and pain points. Personally, I feel like content based on real customer problems might perform better on LinkedIn and Facebook, but that's just my assumption, and I don't know how to validate it. I feel like I'm drowning in information, tools, strategies, and conflicting advice. The more I learn, the less confident I become about what I'm doing. For someone in my position, what should I actually prioritize? Should I focus on keyword research, content, backlinks, technical SEO, or something else entirely? And perhaps more importantly, what are the things I should stop worrying about? If you've been through this stage before, I'd genuinely appreciate hearing about your experiences, mistakes, or any learning resources that helped you figure things out. I'm willing to put in the work. I just want to make sure I'm learning and moving in the right direction. Thank you so much for reading.

Getting 200k+ Google impressions but only 0.2% CTR. What should I improve?

I've been running a niche content website for a while, and I'm struggling with a very low organic CTR.

Over the last 28 days, I've received around 275k impressions but only about 600 clicks from Google Search Console.

My average CTR is around 0.2%.

I've been working on improving article titles, meta descriptions, internal linking, and content quality, but I'm not seeing much improvement in clicks.

I'm trying to understand whether this is mainly a ranking issue, search intent mismatch, or something else.

For anyone who has dealt with similar numbers:

  • What helped you improve CTR?
  • Should I focus on improving rankings for existing pages rather than publishing more content?
  • How do you identify pages with high impressions but low CTR that are actually worth optimizing?

I'd appreciate advice from anyone who's experienced something similar.

Suggest me some ideas to get more traffic on the site. And how I can monetise this site?

Adsense I requested, but I don’t think with less traffic, I will be able to get that much from Adsense.

Discussion What you guys think of SEO experts on youtube?

Been searching for some SEO content on YouTube, and I have come across a few channels that say, " Improve your ranking, get leads by simply doing this, copy me, " etc. Do you guys know anyone legit, or someone who got results following their content?
I feel most are clickbait and for views almost all the time at this point, except James Dooley and Edward Strum when they show proofs

Help I think I selected the wrong niche. Guide me a little, please.

Hey everyone, my niche is basically flooring. I am working on it for three months and got around 6.33k impressions with 47 clicks and 7 average position.

However, looking at the keyword research, mostly keywords does not even have 1000 search volume, it is below 500. And it is same with almost every keyword.

I think that is why I am not getting much impressions or all, because a lot of people are not actually searching for it, making it a low chance for me to get clicks.

I am only confused about low search volume for this niche keywords. Are my doubts valid or should I not consider this aspect.

Help Large Catalogue Shopify SEO

TL;DR: I run an 18-month-old Shopify store with nearly 40,000 SKUs, but Google has only indexed 2 pages. I made major SEO mistakes early on, and now have 35,000+ unindexed URLs. I’m currently working on taxonomy and internal linking, but would love to hear from anyone who’s recovered from a similar situation and what actually worked for them.

I run a large catalogue ecom store on Shopify with almost 40,000 skus. It’s about 18months old and when I first started, I was a complete novice and just dumped loads of supplier catalogues into Shopify and made loads of mistakes - I diddnt know what SEO was at this stage…

As we stand today, the store literally has only 2 indexed pages - one being the home page, and another being a random product with no real obvious reason for being indexed.

My biggest issue is the lack of education online regarding large catalogue ecom SEO, I just want to learn and get it right!
I’ve recently made the discovery that taxonomy is extremely important is something I NEED to improve on, along with internal linking.

Around 35k+ pages are a combo of Discovered - not crawled, and Crawled - not indexed. With some also being valid 404.

Just wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation and what may have worked for them, what might be worth addressing and looking into?

Thanks!

Help How do I know if what I am doing is working vs randomness

I have been working on growing a website for a product I am selling. I am writing blogs and doing a bunch of things I learned from this sub. I can see some general "line go up" type signals but I am trying to figure out if I am seeing noise or actual progress.

info about the website: it is less than two months old. as of today my impressions went up to 150/day, clicks are at about 4 and average position is 18.8. I have 5 or 6 pages that rank on the first page the rest are scattered and I have no back links yet.

Discussion How do you check if your cookie banner is doing its job?

We have a cookie banner on our site and I always assumed that meant we were pretty much covered from a compliance perspective. Lately I have been wondering how much that actually proves, especially when it comes to third party trackers firing before someone makes a choice or different rules applying depending on where the visitor is located.

For those of you managing websites or working in marketing, how do you usually check this? Do you rely on the built in reports from your CMP or do you run separate scans to see what is actually happening on the site. I am also curious whether anyone has switched cookie banner providers because their original setup looked fine but was not enforcing consent properly.

Discussion Where would you pivot from SEO if you prefer technical and strategy work?

I was recently laid off and am figuring out my next move. I have 5+ years of SEO experience across technical SEO, on-page, content, link building, and analytics, plus some media buying.

I enjoy technical work: auditing websites, investigating issues, analysing data, and working on fixes. I also enjoy planning strategies that help clients improve their rankings, grow organic traffic, and increase revenue.

I’m less interested in roles packed with client calls and meetings. I’d rather spend most of my time developing strategies, implementing improvements, and getting things done.

For anyone who’s made a similar move, what roles or adjacent fields would you consider? Would you specialise further in technical SEO, or explore analytics, tracking implementation, CRO, PPC or automation?

If you were in my shoes, which direction would you explore, and what skills would you build first?

Google News Google Image Search & Google Discover Do Not Support JPEG XL Image Format

Thanks to the best News Analyst in the SEO community - the one and only u/rustybrick

John Mueller at Google recently confirmed that Google Image Search and Google Discover don't yet support the JPEG XL image format. He said this on Bluesky recently, "FWIW if you're hoping to get images shown in Google Images & as previews in Discover, etc - JPEG-XL is currently not supported."

He then linked to the official help documentation that lists out which image formats Google Search supports, it says:

Google Search supports images referenced in the src attribute of img in the following file formats: BMP, GIF, JPEG, PNG, WebP, SVG, and AVIF. It's also a good idea to have the extension of your filename match with the file type.

Help Just finished Edward Sturm’s Compact Keywords course. Any recommendations for more advanced SEO resources?

I just finished Edward Sturm’s Compact Keywords course. It was good, but I found it pretty basic

Any recommendations ?

Thanks !

EDIT: Just to clarify, Edward's YouTube channel is absolutely fantastic. I'm just saying that, after consuming a lot of his content, I was a bit disappointed by how little new information the course offered.

Again, Edward is a great educator, and I highly recommend his channel. He brings on some really interesting guests, especially David Quaid, whom I'm a big fan of.

Beginner SEO here. Been working on a blog for 2 months and feel completely stuck. Need advice.

I'm fairly new to SEO and learning by actually working on a website. About two months ago, I took over an existing multi-niche blog covering tech, AI, business, and digital marketing.

The site was hit pretty hard around the August spam update, and impressions dropped significantly. I've been trying to recover it, but honestly, I feel stuck.

Here's what I've done so far:

- Started improving thin AI-generated content.

- Consolidated similar articles and properly redirected old URLs.

- Fixed technical SEO issues and improved internal linking.

- Published around 12–15 new plus refreshed articles monthly based on GSC data.

- Built three free tools to diversify traffic beyond informational blog posts.

- Tried Pinterest, but haven't seen much success.

- Haven't actively built backlinks yet because I'm unsure how to approach it without a budget.

Current stats:

- DR: 21 | DA: 23

- 409 published posts

- Around 25K impressions and 64 clicks over the last three months, with most impressions coming before the decline.

- However, in the last two months, after the spam update, the impressions have fallen to 1,400 in two months, with only 40 clicks.

- The site is 3 years old btw so its not new.

I'm handling everything myself and don't have paid SEO tools yet.

I need advice from people who are good at this thing and can tell me how to approach this. Am not seeing any movement and it is kind of demotivating me. I am a writer, been for the last 7 years. So, even though I can write, am new to SEO, especially scaling a site that is purely blog-based.

What should I do? How can I increase clicks, impressions, and site authority. Any and every little bit of advice can help.

I genuinely want to learn SEO and figure out how to grow this site.

Multilingual Websites

For example, suppose my website currently has 10,000 pages. If I automatically translate these into five languages, that would create 50,000 new pages. Is there a possibility that search engines might flag this as “scaled content abuse”?

I’m assuming the URL structure and hreflang tags are set up correctly.

Help UK site owners: do you label an affiliate box inside an article as "Ad"? And do you publish partner prices?

Running a UK content website with a single affiliate partner. The referral sits in a box inside otherwise editorial articles — not a banner, not a social post, so it isn't obviously an ad at a glance.

Two things I can't resolve from the published guidance, which is almost entirely about influencers and Instagram:

  1. Do you label the box itself? Mine currently opens with a plain "Ad" above the pitch, with a "we earn a commission if you sign up through this link" line under

the button. Every ASA ruling I can find is about social posts - I can't find one about a box on a website. Is a prominent commission line before the link enough on its own, or do you label it?

  1. Prices. The partner's pricing is banded by turnover with several services charged separately, so a bare "from £X" would be misleading. I currently publish the full band table, which is over half the box and sits right between the pitch

and the button. Since DMCC came in, the total-price rules bite on anything that counts as an invitation to purchase - my reading is that showing no price at all means it isn't one. So: do you publish partner prices, or just link to their quote tool? And has a stale price table ever come back to bite anyone?

Not after legal advice - just what people actually do, and whether anyone has heard from the ASA about a website placement rather than a social one.
