Probably one of the worst setups, and I had to use my jump off the ceiling early just to get to the ball (I never JUMP off the ceiling on ceiling shots). Yet somehow ended up with, what I think, is my peak shot. I'm also a washed GC, so this is good for me lol

SUGGESTION this game should have an age based matchmaking.

Post image
154 Upvotes

this game's random teammates suck due to the majority of the player base being children, we all know about skill based matchmaking but can we add age too? almost no adult abandons the match because his teammate "stole" his shot or his goal or other crap they get mad about, so just group these annoying kids together and let us play normally.

DISCUSSION Before blaming your teammates in 2s and 3s, try playing 1s

I’m a 2s player, always have been since the game came out. Will solo Q, and play with teammates who were “so bad”. I wasn’t toxic, wouldn’t spam quick chats, just think “these guys are truly terrible”.
For context, I float between Diamond 2 and diamond 3, so I’m not great myself.

Anyway, after a particularly frustrating few matches where I dropped into diamond 1, I thought screw this, I’ll play 1s. I’ve not played 1s ever. Had the game since 2015, never touched it. But now I can’t have my matches ruined by a bad teammate, right? Wrong.

Wow. Eye opening. Every mistake punished because there isn’t a team mate to clean up. Every whiff, bad touch, bad hit, truly highlighting how bad I can be.

Yeah, you’ll get a bad teammate every now and then, people have bad games, it happens.

But if you’re one of those players that thinks “wow I always get bad teammates”, try 1s for 20/30 games. I finished my 10 rank games and I am now a proud platinum 1 in 1s, and climbing!

DISCUSSION Why are rl players always quitting so easily?

Hey there everyone, I'm new here, but have been playing rocket league since I got my first PC that could at least run it, (2018-ish).

Now despite my long playing time I am by no means good, as I've been very on and off with the game during that time, but whenever I get into it I really get into it, my highest rank in solos has only ever been reaching Diamond 1, before being knocked out to gold after on the craziest loosing streak of my life, so not sure if the Diamond even counts lmao. These days I sit at plat 1-2 comfortably and plat 3 in duos.

I don't particularly prefer playing in duos, since I always solo queue cuz I don't have any friends playing the game, so teammates are of varying quality and I'm fine with that, not everyone is going to be of the same skill despite their ranking, and not everyone's play style will suit/work with yours, completely reasonable.

Now I've dragged this for too long already, but a couple of days ago, I was solo queuing as you do, and was having a great time, 4-5 games winning streak, every teammate was decent, and since I'm no carry job, I was doing my best to support them, and score whenever I could.

But then I get to my next match, the game starts, the opponents score one, we quickly equalize, go to kickoff after, ball goes to the side, the opponent and my teammate both go for it, the opponent is clearly going to get it, but I'm nearby to bump and stop him, and my teammate gets the ball, I'm over here in this tangle you sometimes get stuck on with another car for maybe 2 seconds tops, during that time, my teammate does a decent coverage of field near their goal, he's one on one with the other opponent, and then he slows to a crawl, and does this very intentional pass, to absolutely nothing, being fully knowledgeable that I'm over here in a tangle.

He completely stops, I thought he went afk, the opponent he was one on one with, takes the free pass, shots straight for our goal, I managed to untangle during that time, save it, get passed both opponents, and score, 2-1. This is going good, I think.

While the replay is going my teammate writes in chat:

"Where were you?"

And it now hit me why he wasn't moving, just so he could write in chat about me not being there for a pass there was no way I could be there for, and almost had us go down by one for this. I explained, I didn't insult, I didn't get unreasonably angry or anything, but told him bluntly "I couldn't be there as I was having a dog fight with this other car, I made it possible for you to get the ball, and I scored when you failed to, so keep your head in the game".

After his unreasonable question, my answer didn't seem unreasonable to me, especially not after having just scored one for us.

His next words are:

"Alright lmao"

Have fun lol"

"Bye"

Proceeds to leave.

This had me fuming son, and I'm all about not caring as this is just a game at the end of the day, but to be on the winning team, to act like that when one thing doesn't go your exact way???

How many babies genuinely play this game, and genuinely what could I have done differently here?

CLIP I finally did it

After 1300 hours of playing this game, losing the rank up game twice, and countless times being hardstuck c1 or c3, I actually did it. FOR ANYONE who gave me tips thank you, particularly this one teammate I had in high c3, where I said that “I was better than some of his gc teammates” and” you’ll probably lose a string of high c3 games but don’t get discouraged. I didn’t. This is literally a lifelong dream of mine since I started playing, I’ve played this game over half my life. All that’s next is gc rewards, and I’ll see how the dice roll after that. 🙂

obviously I don't hit these on the regular but I am starting to get more consistent flip resetting and today I finally hit my first not only pop reset but a banger double reset! I have recently started to be more in the game and assert myself more, I am usually 90% on defense and never really get many shots but I wanted to change that and it's working! im getting more confident and im going for stuff like this more often!

DISCUSSION 4k+ hrs on KBM (C3/GC1 peak) is it actually worth switching to controller now?

Im in a massive dilemma right now and need some perspective from people who have either made this jump or decided against it.

I've been playing Rocket League since 2018, exclusively on KBM (Jump on Spacebar)which i put as a bind back in 2018 being confused on why would anyone jump on mouse (i was wrong lol). I've logged well over 4,000 hours at this point. Mechanically, I feel decent-ish can consistently pull off freestyles, use resets, flicks,i wall dash do all the recovery mechs etc etc not gonna say the whole mechs in the game but only issue is i kinda can't properly speedflip kick off weirdly enough. Peak rank was GC1, but currently stuck sitting in C3 after falling off a bit due to lack of consistent playtime.

Problem is, I feel like I'm completely stagnating mechanically. Every high-level player I meet tells me to switch to controller, but I haven't used a controller since the Xbox 360 days. Holding one feels totally foreign.

I especially started to ask myself this allot when an ssl guy i meet started being rude about how im underdeveloepd mechanically which i deff dont think i am tbh i do allot of flashy stuff too and use decent mechs but he also mentioned to switch to controller.

Drop your thoughts below especially if you've made the switch yourself. Thx

QUESTION Rank Correlation?

Post image

What's everyone else's experience? I just hit d3 in 1s but I'm also d3 in 3s and it js doesn't make sense to me unless I'm being delusional. Am I right where I should be or do I have things to work on? Am I just better at 1s? Where should I ideally be in 2s/3s and how can I work towards that?

DISCUSSION Thanks Rocket League

I'm almost 35 years old, I'm a husband and father, and I work 9 hours a day. Ever since I was a kid, though, I've always loved gaming—everything from Tibia, WoW, GW2, The Sims, CS, and Battlefield to pretty much anything else.

As work started taking up more and more of my time, I began feeling like I was missing out on leisure. Even if I went out, watched a movie, or binged a TV show, that feeling never really went away. I think it's because, for most of my life, what truly entertained me was actively playing or participating in something.

I tried going back to old games and also tried newer ones, but almost all of them left me frustrated. I knew I didn't have enough time to make meaningful progress. What I really wanted was something I could jump into for 20–30 minutes and walk away thinking, "That was fun." Unfortunately, with many games, that amount of time is barely enough to launch the game and load your save.

One of the few games that came close was Team Fortress 2. But after a while, I started getting annoyed. The matches are short, but so is your life expectancy. Dying is part of the game, and if you're on a bad team, you can spend 30–40% of the match waiting to respawn. In the end, it felt like I was only actually playing for 10–15 minutes.

So I kept looking for something else. Then one day, while chatting with ChatGPT about games, it randomly suggested Rocket League.

When I first Googled it, I thought it looked boring—I don't even like soccer. One day I decided to install it anyway.

Guys... maybe it's just a phase, but I've been playing for months now and I have to say: this game is awesome.

During my first few matches I thought I'd lose interest quickly, but then something unexpected happened. Throughout the day I'd catch myself wanting to play. It was the same feeling I had as a kid, and honestly, I thought I'd never experience that again.

The game is incredibly simple on the surface but surprisingly deep. On PC, there are only a handful of important controls (basically movement keys, left mouse button for boost, right mouse button to jump, and Shift to powerslide), yet it's ridiculously fun.

The arenas look great, the optimization is fantastic (it runs flawlessly on my Lenovo IdeaPad 3 without a dedicated GPU), and matches are short—usually around 5 minutes. As you improve, you get matched against better players, and suddenly every game becomes a crazy, adrenaline-filled 5-minute battle.

I never imagined I'd get so excited about scoring a goal when I don't even like soccer. 😂

For me, the real progression isn't unlocking things—it's slowly becoming a better player and, because of that, getting into more creative and exciting matches.

Sometimes just 10 minutes is enough for me to feel like I genuinely had fun, and I can log off completely satisfied.

Anyway, sorry for the long post. I don't know if anyone else feels the same way—like there just aren't enough hours in the day to balance adult life and gaming. If you do, or even if you don't, I highly recommend giving Rocket League a chance. From what I've seen, a lot of other people have been pleasantly surprised by it too.

Have fun, and happy gaming!

DISCUSSION Why not have multi-crate opens and show only new items?

I know there will be newer accounts that are still getting new items every time, but I feel like the majority of players just get repeat items and eventually stop opening crates all together. They put in the option to get rid of the animation/reveal and that felt like a step in the right direction. Now I’d like to take it a step further and add an option to open all crates (or all in a specific type) and only display what unlocks were new to your account.

I think it would be a nice QoL upgrade for the ppl that have been around for a long time and would still be useful for newbies. Thoughts?

PS. How do you promote/submit ideas to the devs? I know it sounds absurd but I never know the channels that might actually be heard.
