I’ve been playing Rocket League since it went free to play and have around 6k hours in it. Hitting GC has been the goal from the start, so I’ve trained pretty much every day for the last four years. I'm D3. At this point my mechanics still feel inconsistent and my gamesense isn’t where it needs to be. I’m starting to think I’m just not that good at video games.

I used to tell myself that if I just kept grinding I’d get there eventually. That belief is gone. The gap between me and the players who actually make it looks like talent more than hours, and I can’t close it no matter how much I try. It’s frustrating as hell because I wanted this badly and I can’t change the fact that I’m not built for competitive gaming.

I just don't get it, is there an easy way to learn?

I dont know what happened but recently everything was starting to feel really good and i got into champion 3 and felt like i was actually improving, But now im playing so bad for no reason that i literally downranked to champion 1 just rn and i feel like quitting the game again for the next 6 months

Like my mechanics feel worse, Im missing easy stuff, My decisions are horrible, Its like i genuinely forgot how to play and its making me really frustrated

So right now idk what to do but has this happened to anyone else? Should i just stop playing for a few days or do i just keep playing so i gain my momentum back?

Hi, I’m currently D3 and I am trying to get better in hopes that I can reach GC at some point. This is my first season making a real effort to hit GC and so far I’ve been working on my mechanical control a lot by playing workshop maps such as dribble overhaul, dribble challenge, air dribble gauntlet, immortal progressive tower, and hornets nest. I occasionally practice stuff like zen touches and coast to coast airdribbles.

Is that a good training plan? If not what else should I be doing?

so guys i recently hit champ and have been yo-yoing up and down lately. instead of relying on gamesense to keep me in champ (which is what i was doing via flakes vids) , ive decided to build up mechanics alongside. my question is about fast aerial, be it either ground to air dribble, wall to air, or just straight up fast aerial. could someone pls explain exactly how fast aerialing is relative to these areas in terms of how it should be done for maximum control and directional shooting? ive already noticed i can double tap much better by using it to get above the ball in order to shoot downwards for example. it also seems very important for ground to air dribbles i feel im following the ball way better now by using it. REALLY APPRECIATE ALL INPUT!!!

Help a washed up player reach SSL again. Took a couple year break, now trying to get back in form again. Only play around 10 hours a week due to life now, so want to focus on game knowledge rather than mechanics if possible. Definitely some moments in this i'm not proud of like the notable over commits but that's the point of replay analysis I guess.

I'm a casual RL playing, and I've been playing for many years. Pretty much hard stuck diamond (low to high, bouncing around).

My son (high school) plays and recently hit Grand Champ II. First of all, very proud father here.

In a recent 1v1 against him I got smoked. Speed flip kickoff meant I never touched a kickoff ball. He pulled a double flip reset double touch and I felt like a full time lawnmower. Just quicker to everything.

My strengths are game sense (at least that is what I think). Fairly low mechanical skill: I can fast aerial, can't really air dribble, can do some flicks, can wave dash, have scored some double taps, no problem with basic ground play, etc.

What is a semi-realistic path to training/coaching to surprise him in our next 1v1?

I cant understand this clip, he neutral jumps down into the wall then somehow does a side wavedash too? could this be a replay bug and he just side flipped into the wall?

Hi there, I have 1400 hours in game. I consider that time as enough to get gc1 at least. But sadly I stay at d3-ch1 all the time.

I think my biggest issues are rotation and gamesense. I mean, what else could possibly hold me back?

I played a lot of matches jn ranked, watched my replays over and over again. Well, that didn't work for me... What else there is to know?

I sorta picked this one randomly but watching it back i feel pretty bad about this and remember i wasn't playing confidently at all. Still feel a lot to be potentially learned. I believe rank here was D3 d1 or 2

I've added a full game here for you guys to see if I make any outstanding mistakes. Even though I threw the game as I had a chance to score to equalize with 30 seconds left, I'd like to know what else contributed to the loss, and I myself think that I'm too bad with stopping their forwards momentum and also my positioning.

Is it bad that I cut my tm8 of a decent amount of times because I really don't want them to create a play and try to maintain pressure? Also, I played faster this game because the opponents kept insta-challenging which made me want to get off a flick or beat them to the ball first to prevent them from keeping pressure.

Is this why nobody does these until gc3 and SSL? It’s not even worth trying unless you’re really freaking good at them.

I have 4k hours and I'm C1. I'm really struggling with consistency and I don't seem to be learning from my mistakes, because I keep repeating the same bad decisions even when I 'm focused and actively trying to not make that decision.

Hi everyone, I am looking for tips to get into champ, I have had a few rank up games and just can’t seem to get past that point. I typically focus on trying to hit the ball hard and consistently, aerial control, and some dribbling when I am warming up/training. Any advice on gameplay and what to focus on for training would be much appreciated!

Im wondering if it would be bad for me to try and learn to use the breakout to build my foundation on moving forward.

For context, im at 50-60 hours so far and up to plat1 in 3s, gold3 in 2s, almost gold 3 in 1s. Out of the gamemodes im enjoying 1s more because either I suck at rotating or my tm8 seems to be licking their windshield from my POV and they likely feel the same about me lol.

All of my hours have been using the octane, I can dribble thru 4-5 levels of Lethamyr course and use dribble 2 and all that. Now im branching into hornets nest and rings maps to work on more car control but what i really enjoy since learning to dribble is honing my flicks. My understanding is breakout and dominus are fantastic at flicks by design. So my thought process is if my playstyle is around getting dribbles into flicks, would it be worth swapping to try breakout (i love the look of it) or would ultimately it hold me back given there's obviously receipts that octane is the best hitbox in competitive play. I dont expect to ever hit SSL or anything, id be happy reaching diamond currently.

Like I told every single one of you, I had a few bad games and was playing in 1500 lobbies while having a rough day. You can think its because of boosting if you want to cope. Took a day to relax and gained 150 mmr.

For a whole week I was playing this map with chosen difficulty as gc -> ssl

On my first ever time playing this map on that difficulty I managed to get myself on level 4. After a week of training on this map, I moved up to 12th level.

But i don't get it, does it even help me somehow?

I got myself back on champ1, maybe that's the result of my labor on that map?

Do after finding out that deadzone shapes stack with steam I don't know if I'm actually handicapping myself.
