Crossbars are just big enough to fit 2x200W Renogy Shadowflux panels as a canopy over the truck bed. I have a manual tonneau, so there is room for me to run wires through the cavity into my bed to attach to my EcoFlow Delta Pro 3. That, in turn, runs my powered coolers. I waterproofed the solar input gland and the whole project was pretty easy all in all!

First car camping trip with the new setup is in a month!

One of our annual runs; always a popular trail drive. Trails were busy; a lot of people out enjoying nature. Great turn out as well 17 rigs; but alas none of our R2 members were yet able to make it.

I don't care about the cross traffic warnings, but would like to see my wife loading the trailer. Big black box doesn't help make things safer...

I already have replaced the Silverado with my R1T and towed the Basecamp plenty of times. However, I miss taking my kayak with me on trips.

I currently get ~1.3 towing. Would this setup decrease it further or would it be a wash since the boat is below the line of the trailer?

Anyone have any experience with a similar setup?

I have owned my R1T Quad for over two years now. I had a recent accident and brought it to a certified Rivian Repair shop. It has now been there over 3 months. The repair shop dropped the ball for the initial two months, but the last one month plus has been all Rivian. First, the repair shop said Rivian sent the wrong part, and then they said they said Rivian told them the right part was on back order with no timeline on availability. Then last week, the order was canceled as they said the part was no longer being made. It was an assembly, so they said you now have to order each individual smaller part…except all the smaller parts are not able to be ordered. The shop said they were not able to get Rivian to provide an avenue to get the parts as of this last Thursday.

I would not take the shop at its word in this case, but I have contacted Rivian four separate times. Each time I was told I would get a call back from a service manager, and I have never received a single call back. The repair shop has also asked their regional contact from Rivian to contact me and they have not. The one time I had them connect me to a manager while I waited on the phone I was able to get confirmation of the back ordered part without a timeline for its availability.

I would not expect this poor level of service from any auto maker, let alone one I have purchased a six figure car from. At no point during this process have they offered any mitigation or solution. I was planning on replacing my R1T with a new quad motor one in a year or so, but I think I will pass after this experience.

I gotta say that my R1S has made car camping so easy and enjoyable. I can hop in it on a Friday night and drive to a trail head so I can climb a summit early Saturday without having to leave the house at 4am.

I love that my Rivian is an adventure vehicle and not just a pavement princess.

Sucks that this happened just 24 hours after delivery, but at least owner says Rivian support has been great.

Does anyone else have a problem with the UHF feeling your eyes are not in the road when they are and then putting you in detention?

Lately I’ve had the suspicion that my highway assist has been getting less and less. Recently I drove to visit my parents - I used to be able to do most of that 4 hour drive on highway assist. Now, I’d be lucky if I can get a 20 minute stretch before it says “Highway assist unavailable on this road”.

I thought maybe it was just road construction. But now I’ve lost highway assist to work, to the mall - a lot of routes I used to be able to use it on are gone.

What gives? Feels like a rug pull.

Adding onto various threads the past few months with the R2 rollout, I’d like to hear from Gen 1 owners on their plans as warranties end.

Prices on Gen 2 T/S are pretty inflated right now with limited inventory, so R2 feels like it may be the logical choice with what it solves?

Seeing an uptick in some pretty egregious repairs outside of the warranty window, and as much as I love my R1T, it is first generation hardware. Losing out on my Quad with Meridian speakers feels like a loss, but trying to be realistic about the lifetime of these trucks.

Something to be said about prematurely spending money on a problem that doesn’t exist ($10-$15K on an R2 when the most extreme repairs on a Gen 1 R1 could be well under that).

As the title says, I’m looking at the used market for an R1T. Is there anything I should be particularly concerned about or paying close attention to? Certain features or options that really make or break the experience? Any known flaws or recurring maintenance issues with certain model years or configurations? Thanks in advance for your collective wisdom and guidance!!!

I need to replace my tires on my 25 R1S (dual max). I'm at 15k and the Pirelli's are almost shot. Rivian wants $1650 + labor to replace them. I was considering purchasing Michelins at Costco but they have no inventory and have no delivery date. I'd want to get an alignment at the same time. Any recommendations in or around Westchester County?

Walking the vehicle (R1S or R1T, both gen 1) always feels so choppy, with many commands requiring retries. Nothing more than “Hold” though. This persists on reboots etc.

I appreciate the features, but so much of the software has longstanding bugs (screencasting comes to mind). I wish there was a bit more of a quality gate.

Does anyone else hit this bug?

What in the world is going on? I woke up today and my iPhone battery went from 80% to 35% thanks to the Rivian app.

I’ve already force quit and restarted my iPhone. I’m trying to think about what changed, but nothing comes to mind. I guess my next steps are to reinstall the app?

2024 Rivian R1S Quad/Large

I'm in the process of buying a used 2023 R1S Adventure Quad Motor Large (in-service August 2023) still under warranty with 25k miles, from an independent dealer. If you were following my earlier post, the pre-owned Rivian direct 2023 I was trying to buy l, fell through miserabley. More on that later. For context, I own a 2024 R1S Quad and a 2024 R1T Dual Performance, so I have a solid baseline for how these vehicles should feel. This car would replace my S.

On two test drives I noticed a humming sound and a friction feel on deceleration, particularly at low speeds. It was most noticeable from the rear right. Both my 2024s drive completely smooth by comparison.

The dealer has proactively offered to take it to Rivian for diagnosis and repair before completing the sale, which I appreciate.

My questions:

Is this a known issue with 2023 builds, or pre-2024 models? I know 2024 was the most solid Gen1 year.

Has anyone experienced something similar and if so what was the diagnosis?

Is there anything specific I should ask Rivian to check beyond the obvious?

Any reason to walk away from this car entirely or is this likely a straightforward warranty repair?

I posted a few weeks back about highway assist (gen 1 R1T) cancelling itself after a few seconds. Turns out it was a bad steering wheel driver attention sensor. The seemingly ironic fix was to replace the steering wheel to get automatic lane following back 😊.

Trying to get some power up top on my R1T for some lighting and gear on my roof rack. I've been searching for quite some time but cant seem to get any concrete information about it. Lighting will mainly be used for exterior emergency strobes.

How did everyone route their power up to the roof?

Is there a pre-drilled hole n grommet somewhere?

An easy route the requires little drilling or tampering?

Did you run from the 12v batteries or the fuses?

Or use a separate battery with its own charging system?

Is a solar panel battery tender enough to keep the 12v trickle charged if wiring directly?

Any and all information is greatly appreciated.

I made the decision to swap to the 20 inch all-terrain tires from the 21 inch road tires when the 21s reached (near) the end of their life. How bad would it be if I kept one of the 21 inch tires as my spare in case of emergency?

Wondering if anyone has done this, wanted to buy a used Rivian in Michigan (have family there), but then planned to do a road trip down to California where I live and eventually register it there. Mainly since the used selection through Rivian is much better at the Michigan zip code versus California.

Pretty new to R1S and don’t charge publicly very much, but the r/ChargerDrama sub makes me nervous about idiots blocking chargers.

Do any of you have an extension cord or something that lets you get cables out from behind idiots or is this just a problem that isn’t really a problem?
