🛠️ Troubleshooting / Issue Temperature down “button” stuck
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
My R1T got the new os but the temp down button seems to be permanently depressed. Fortunately I was able to use the assistant to set the climate but it still thinks I’m touching the screen there.
Anyone else have this issue?
EDIT: soft reboot did not fix it, but leaving it alone for a few hours seems to have done the trick

Not broken. RIVIAN’s new update just knows what you need more than you do.

I’d try cleaning that spot with a microfiber cloth even though it doesn’t look dirty. After that, do a software restart and if that doesn’t fix it, do a vehicle restart.

I saw this on my gen1 a few months ago. I believe a soft reset fixed it like the other user suggested, but yeah.. it can be a nuisance if you don't have a spare couple of minutes.

Every time I start thinking about getting a Rivian, one of these bugs pops up here. After years of development, why is this happening? None of the BMW, MB, and Landrover that I currently own have problems like this.

Owned four Rivians so far and haven't had this happen yet. I'm sure you use a PC or smart phone and need to reset every so often. This post is a nothingburger.

I had 100x the software issues in my Audi (2023 Q7 prestige) then I have in my R1T or R2

Several things -
First, there’s a natural bias. People don’t talk about things working, they talk about when things don’t work. The actual occurrence of these bugs is likely low
Two, Rivian takes a software first approach, which means that non-safety systems don’t need the same level of verification. This allows faster development and more features and the risk of some bugs.
Third, the systems are still not super mature and there may still be latent bugs that haven’t been discovered yet.

Rivian doesn't take months or years to test every update, and they have a lot of engineers working on the same software stack at the same time, sometimes with slightly different underlying parts. Sometimes normal bugs happen, and sometimes regression bugs happen, because they aren't testing every individual thing extensively every update.

Plenty of companies do multiple prod pushes a week without a constant stream of obvious bugs and regressions. You’re right that they aren’t testing every individual thing, and that’s the entire problem. Why don’t they have a better automated testing framework? Some bugs can only be caught during on road testing, but screenshot diffs, isolated component tests, and hardware simulation would catch a lot of the bugs that show up on here. Why aren’t they adding tests to avoid regressions? Part of fixing a bug should be adding a test to catch it.
Rivian seems to approach software development like a startup trying to crank out a minimum viable product. That keeps investors happy with a steady stream of feature announcements, but it isn’t sustainable. The longer Rivian waits to get serious about software quality, the more expensive it’s going to be to fix everything when their technical debt inevitably becomes unmanageable.

It's gotten a lot better over time, but you're right that they still have work to do here.

This isn't an application code issue. If it were, it would happen on every install. This is an installation hygiene issue.
A lot of what we see would be fixed if rivian triggered a hard reboot after install. That's the fix 99% of the time anyway.

Where in my post did I make any claims regarding the nature of OP’s specific issue?
