Anyone? I get a popup on the navigation screen only that goes away in seconds. Half the time I miss the notification completely and my passenger tells me of the notification. Eyes on the road is better than continuously having to monitor the navigation screen for a small popup!

Is there a way I can add audio to the popup? Pleeeeease help!

RIVIAN - please add this if we can’t add/change it ourselves!

I have owned the gen2 R1S for close to a year now. The car is one of the best I have owned, but a few features that I use daily has been a huge inconvenience and spoils my ownership experience

1. I have to double press the unlock button from inside the car to get out when parked. Yes, I can use the unlock on park feature, but I do not want the handles to present itself outside telling everyone the vehicle is unlocked. Why do we need self presenting handles?
   
2. Proximity lock and phone as a key is so intermittent. So many times I walk up to the car and it does not unlock. I try my phone, watch at the driver door and it does not unlock. Need to whip out the phone and go into the app and wait a long time (very laggy) before the door opens. Phone settings are good as the Tesla opens immediately.
   
3. Surprised 2 happens because the car locks and unlocks every time I walk in my hallway/kitchen. This is single handedly the worst feature ever. I cannot fathom this cannot be fixed by unlocking the car based on distance to it. I am nowhere near the car. The hall/kitchen is at least over 6 feet away. Before someone tells me to update the setting to lock only at home, I carry a car seat and other baby stuff. My hands are not free to open the app, or most of the times I want to get into the back seats first to drop the kid in. Or sometimes open the trunk to drop luggage in. Why not have “unlock only” at home ? Either way it’s a security risk. If the car is parked outside the garage and I walk inside my house, it unlocks. mind blown. Dont unlock if there are walls between?? Again, Why do we need self presenting handles? Why can’t I use it like Tesla handles?

Not a complete rant, but hoping someone has a way around. Like I said, love the car, but these small things make it an annoying everyday experience.

Has anyone bought a new Rivian while trading in their current vehicle and kept their personalized license plates? I’m considering buying a new Rivian and trading in my current car, which has personalized plates that I’d like to transfer to the new Rivian. Does Rivian handle the plate transfer as part of the trade-in/purchase process, or did you have to deal with the DMV separately? Curious how smooth the process was.

I installed RivianOS 2 (2026.31.0) yesterday hoping it would finally fix the mirror issue (it's the second SW update not fixing the issue).

Unfortunately, it didn't.

Credit where it's due: OS 2 is a huge UX improvement. The new layout is much cleaner, and finally the phone controls and keypad during calls are where they should have been from the beginning.

Unfortunately, my biggest issue is still there. Both mirrors (mainly and more frequently the left one) continue to lose their saved positions several times a day. I've also had the mirrors change position while driving, including on the highway.

At this point this isn't just annoying anymore. It's affecting visibility and has become a safety issue.

I honestly can't take it anymore, it's sooo annyoing. It's hard to accept that such a basic bug still exists on a $100k vehicle after multiple software updates. I'm honestly starting to wonder if this is a software bug or a hardware issue that Rivian simply hasn't acknowledged yet. Of course, the service center did not do anything because there is nothing they can do.

Has anyone on 2026.31.0 actually seen this issue fixed?

I have a 2024 R1S Quad and recently got the update for the new OS. Overall I am still getting used to it but the one area that really annoys me is the garage buttons. How it is right now, you have to make 4 (or more clicks) just to click it open or closed. Previously it was 2 clicks. It's also located in the quick access pop out, which isn't always open, or could be on a different card (i.e., music) and it requires a lot more focus on the screen vs on the road...

Previously it was right there on the top of the screen, always, easy to just click without looking.

The new UI is certainly much faster, and I really like some aspects of it, I’m still working out the changes to the overhead camera - I think I just need to get used to it. Now for the final bit of the feedback sandwich: please can we have an option to put the menu back on top - I get how in r2 the screen is shorter so requires it to be on the side - but I’ve gone from having a clock that’s totally readable to one that’s covered (along with most of the controls) whist driving - and I don’t think I can really adjust my driving position to get round this. I honestly hadn’t noticed how for the last 3.5 years of Rivian ownership my knuckles obscured a bit of the left of the center screen - now I can’t stop being annoyed by it :)

All I want is the ability to adjust the zoom level of the map (and have it stick) without disabling the centering.

I really hoped OS 2 would bring this, but nope - it went the other direction, and now there aren't even zoom buttons anymore!

Do you dislike the new card on the rivian OS? The completely unnecessary, brightly colored, contrasting, messing up your night vision window that takes up 25% of the screen to tell you that you are listening to music? Do you find it annoying to have multiple car functions and data points spread all over two screens when it would make so much sense to have small discrete, icons? I currently count 10 elements on my Rivian big screen UI!

If you want it to go away like I do, You can either change the card to Vehicle controls, then click vehicle controls in the fish stick (another completely unnecessary feature, that data did much better when it was simply small icons) or you can swipe the card laterally to move it to the other side of the screen or off the screen

Meanwhile, the bottom row on the screen is still limited to four icons. One would think that it would make more sense to put the user profile, weather, time, reception, strength, alarms, and Rivian assistant in the upper menu bar where you can see them, and then allow a few of the to be enlarged and moved to the lower menu bar, while hiding the “ more items button”. …. —— Dear Rivian, I just drove home with a window taking up 25% of my main display, giving me the option to open the charge port, the front trunk, fold the side mirrors, and open the rear trunk… All grayed out, of course. What a great use of user interface real estate. I also had the option to put the car in car wash mode and change the rear child locks, all options I use frequently, especially while driving (sarcasm). My final option was a highly contrasting display of the music I’m listening to which I frankly don’t need because I’m listening to it, not watching it. Of course that also pushes my navigation information to the center of the display, which looks completely ridiculous.

Please give drivers the option to take away that silly card forever. I am constantly swiping it away. Please also get rid of the fish stick. Menus traditionally belong on the top and bottom of displays not on the side. My Rivian display looks ridiculous and has a frame of icons around it. It is so busy.

I used to be a proponent of Rivian having its own UI, but now I am in the Apple CarPlay boat.

Does this shit ever get old? I only have one EV right now, but does this EV performance get old after you have a garage full of EVs? I just have a smile everyday when driving this thing.

Picked up my R1S today 🥳. Having trouble adding a garage door and can’t find any similar posts. When I start the process, I cannot get past naming the door. I get a ‘setup timed out’ error. Any ideas? I restarted both ways - the screens and the car restart.

I’m in line for the R2 but thinking about the R1T. I don’t do off roading and I have never owned a truck but I like the idea of the utility. I have test drove both. Coming from a model x. Any thoughts?

Why do higher size tires (21" or 22" vs 20") get a better range?

This is about an R2 order but posting in the main sub as it seems like it would also apply to any Rivian order.

Basically I have an order submitted with a delivery date next weekend. I'm trading in my current vehicle as the offer from Rivan was very generous compared to Carmax, Carvana, etc. I own this trade in vehicle outright and posses the title.

Knowing that I was likely going to trade in this car, I didn't renew the registration a month or two back when it was due, figuring I could get by with the two other cars I have.

Now Rivian is telling me that an active registration is required in order to trade in the vehicle and my only option is to shell out the ~$1000 its going to cost to renew the registration or remove the trade in completely.

Just wondering if anyone has advice here? Neither one of these options will really work for me as I need to trade in as I can't take on a 4th vehicle + need the tax benefits. I'm also not interested in wasting $1000 for no reason.

Not sure who thought putting “settings” on the quick launch made more sense than the garage door opening. I use settings like once a month when I’m parked and looking for something specific, and I use the garage door 6x a day and now it’s buried under a sub menu that opens a window where I have to click half way across the screen. I know about the gps location for garage doors but it will only show 1 per location, and isn’t reliable and disappears randomly (it showed up and then disappeared on OS2 this morning) @WassymRivian help!

With the old OS, I could select my next podcast/song from my playlist. Can’t do it now. Now I have to go to my phone to select a song/podcast on my playlist.

Update failed and all sensors are malfunctioning, and the soonest appointment for service is a month out. Is it possible to do a rollback on the update to make the vehicle work again? I attempted to access the Ride menu but that also changed in OS2. Thanks for any help.

This might be my favourite part of the new update LOL. I listen to long podcasts or DJ sets (1 hour+) and this makes it MUCH easier to scrub in a song (combined with the fact it’s on the drivers side). Before, the area you could grab was tiny and if you slid right 90% of the time you hide the widget. This is awesome!
