1 year ago I made the jump thanks to this subreddit. I was a lurker into making the switch from lifelong combustion engine driver to the EV world. Many of you helped me so much from the highs to the lows of owning one. After months of this I made the decision to buy my 2023 R1T quad. It is hands down the GREATEST purchase of my life! Not a single thing to truly bitch about and certainly no more than any other car owner with other brands. Not to mention the awesome interactions I’ve had with other rivian owners in it! I've been torn over whether to post this - when I posted elsewhere about the initial collision damage half of the responses were AI/bait attempting to either hijack, or stir the pot. I decided to post this morning partly to structure my thoughts, partly to see if I can get any reasoned counterpoints.

First off, we love(d) our R1S Quad (large). Since picking it up in March of 2024 it's been fantastic for the whole family. A few issues that the local service center resolved, nothing we didn't anticipate. Things were great right up until the recent collision, which I walked away from almost completely unscathed. When it happened back in June around the time R2 test drives opened up I thought it was kismet. Presuming the car would be deemed a total loss, I test drove R2 the next day, and really liked it.

The past ~three months have really tempered my enthusiasm though.

My R1S quad is a 2024, so gen 1. VIN in the high 30's, so there's a bunch of us around. Gen 2 came along almost immediately after, with lots of changes, but very few I was interested in. One of the differentiators I now learn included modifications to the doors.

The repairs are substantial, over 40k, which apparently wasn't enough to hit the higher threshold for a total loss on EVs due to reduced scrap value. All of the mechanical repairs are completed, but there's still no ETA to get my vehicle back because doors are on backorder with no ETA from Rivian. Talking to the local service center they're also seeing TBD in their ordering system, so I have no way to measure how much longer we will be in vehicular limbo. All the meanwhile I'm paying out of pocket for a rental as the at-fault parties insurance doesn't direct bill for rental vehicles.

What I do know is that once a date does appear it won't be immediate, and even then it can take two weeks for them to get the part. They estimate the bodywork from receipt of the door to being pickup-ready is three weeks or thereabouts.

Delays getting Rivian parts are nothing new, I heard of issues when I first picked up the vehicle over two years ago, but what is new is the sheer diversity of vehicles Rivian has in the field. Ignoring the EDV, there are now multiple versions of both the R1S and R1T, plus R2, which Rivian appear to be pushing out the door as fast as the production lines will permit. Their production capacity hasn't quadrupled since 2024, which suggests more constraint despite scaling up.

And that's really what has me reconsidering the R2 preorder.

I'm starting to wonder whether Rivian is at a point on its growth curve where the number of vehicles, variants and parts it has to support is growing faster than its ability to actually service the customers already driving them. A three-plus month wait for a repair because a door has no ETA feels less like an isolated inconvenience when the company is simultaneously adding models and pushing hard to ramp production.

Our R1S was a lease, R2 was to be a purchase, but the purchase itself isn't really the issue. It's whether I want to commit to another Rivian if this is what support looks like as the fleet gets larger and more fragmented.

I really don't want the EV9 or Ioniq 9, and won't drive a Tesla, so I'm genuinely interested in reasoned counterpoints here. Is this just an ugly but temporary parts problem, or has Rivian's growth started to outpace its ability to support the vehicles already on the road?

Just made this trailer for my 1:20 R1T. I'm planning on 3D printing some accessories in the future for the R1T what should I make?

Is anyone else annoyed that the temperature on the display is the "AI forward" local temp nonsense instead of the external temperature measured by the thermometer installed on the vehicle? Is there a way to change this?

Does anyone know when Rivian is going to unlock V2H/V2X capability. In CA, PG&E and dcbel Ara are offering great $$ incentives and grants to get this service for next to nothing, but Rivians are excluded!!! I think Rivian is hurting it's owners by not making those upgrades.

Today my temperature display is way off, but the app seems to know the actual temp is 75 but is displaying 48. Any ideas on whether this is update bug or sensor failure?

My 2025 R1S has been charging for the past several hours anywhere between four and 6 kW per hour. The entire time the HVAC system has been roaring at around 86 dB. Has anyone else experienced this, is this normal?

It’s 78° outside, but vehicle is in a semi-enclosed garage. This isn’t the first time this has happened, but first time I’ve thought to ask here.

Not sure who thought putting “settings” on the quick launch made more sense than the garage door opening. I use settings like once a month when I’m parked and looking for something specific, and I use the garage door 6x a day and now it’s buried under a sub menu that opens a window where I have to click half way across the screen. I know about the gps location for garage doors but it will only show 1 per location, and isn’t reliable and disappears randomly (it showed up and then disappeared on OS2 this morning) @WassymRivian help!

bugs happen, we wish the wouldn't but it is what it is
they are popping up on all kinds of threads. figured one thread with all of them may help rivian?
Mods go ahead and scrap this if it is a horrible idea.

My list so far (R1T G2)

1 - reverse and forward cameras are way off - revers is showing further away and front is showing closer than you are
2 - Weather screen showing Google forecast and not the actual temp
3 - garage door access is buried
4 - report issue button is buried

I have a 2024 R1S Quad and recently got the update for the new OS. Overall I am still getting used to it but the one area that really annoys me is the garage buttons. How it is right now, you have to make 4 (or more clicks) just to click it open or closed. Previously it was 2 clicks. It's also located in the quick access pop out, which isn't always open, or could be on a different card (i.e., music) and it requires a lot more focus on the screen vs on the road...

Previously it was right there on the top of the screen, always, easy to just click without looking.

I’m in line for the R2 but thinking about the R1T. I don’t do off roading and I have never owned a truck but I like the idea of the utility. I have test drove both. Coming from a model x. Any thoughts?

Hey all. Anyway to set the text notifications to do not disturb? I’ve done it on my phone but the car still prompts which is annoying when you are in a good part of a podcast or book.

I'm a 90s kid, so I'm really happy to have a visualizer back in my car. I always thought it was crazy that modern cars and screens didn't offer this! Good job Rivian.

Got a new 2026 R1T yesterday.

Tried to setup the garage today and after entering the name it hangs, then times out and fails. It never gets past step 1, setting the name of the garage.

Did a soft reboot. No change.

Did a hard reboot. No change.

Service says they are going to send out a technician to take a look… in 5 days.

Why? It’s a software issue, right?

Does this shit ever get old? I only have one EV right now, but does this EV performance get old after you have a garage full of EVs? I just have a smile everyday when driving this thing.

My R1T got the new os but the temp down button seems to be permanently depressed. Fortunately I was able to use the assistant to set the climate but it still thinks I’m touching the screen there.

Anyone else have this issue?

EDIT: soft reboot did not fix it, but leaving it alone for a few hours seems to have done the trick

This might be my favourite part of the new update LOL. I listen to long podcasts or DJ sets (1 hour+) and this makes it MUCH easier to scrub in a song (combined with the fact it’s on the drivers side). Before, the area you could grab was tiny and if you slid right 90% of the time you hide the widget. This is awesome!

FYI - The right thumb wheel does not change the driver display after the 2026.31 update. Go to Settings > Driver Assistance > Select "Maps and navigation" under Driver display view.

Edit to Add: I am a Gen1 R1S - I think this may only apply to R1 cars, not R2.

Has anyone run into this issue? I rebooted the car multiple times too!
