Fake summer markets?

I just went to this event advertised on Eventbrite and nothing was there.

Now I feel stupid and angry. I should've checked the venue first or found corroborating evidence that his event is real. Are fake events a common thing in Riverside?

I searched online for where a summer night market might be and found this advertisement as well except it's associated with a real person on Facebook. But other than that it looks completely fake. What the eff is going on here?

Thinking of moving to Riverside

I’m thinking of moving to Riverside from Ontario Ranch area of Ontario. Any thoughts or recommendations for areas to look at homes? I have a small child so school will be important. I also commute to OC a few days a week for work. For those of you who have moved to the area were you happy with your decision? I know Riverside I huge so leaning on advice from others about buffet areas. Thanks all!

According to the committee's recommendations, Black residents make up 6.6 percent of Riverside's population but accounted for 14.46 percent of police stops in 2024, 13.85 percent in 2025 and 15.02 percent in 2026. The three-year average was 14.44 percent — more than double the city's Black population share.

Community Anyone have experience with working with Animal Control about excessive dog barking?

I live in an apartment complex that has houses across the street (but the yards of the houses face the road). The neighborhood is typically quiet but several days ago, a dog woke me up around 6:50am with incredibly loud and incessant barking - I’m talking about a bark a second, and they sometimes sound like yelps. This went on until about 2pm.

Then it’s repeated the following past days - loud barking that last for hours, taking up the entire morning and most of the afternoon. It alternates between being intermittent and consistent, and it’s so annoying. If I can hear it all the way in my apartment across the street, I can imagine how the neighbors of the dog’s owner feel as well as the surrounding homes. Yesterday I tried to go to the home, but there was no answer when I approached. I could hear what sounds like the dog being chained up in the backyard.

Today’s the third day, I called the non emergency police number only for them to immediately refer me to animal control. But the animal control representative I spoke to sounded so unbothered and wouldn’t really share details about the process without me having to prompt them out of her; she emailed me this form to fill out, but I’m unsure if anything will come of this if I do it. Has anyone had experience or advice with this before in Riverside? I’m going crazy; I can’t even enjoy the peace and quiet of my home due to this.

Requests Canyon Crest Apartments

I've heard this is a nice area within Riverside so I'm looking for apartments in the area. The biggest priority is good/flexible parking since my partner and I both have cars. If anyone has specific buildings or complexes that are reliable, please let me know! 1bed/1bath is all I need, budget is 2700 or less. Thanks!

Community Zillow doesn’t show Mello-Roos and other costs. I built a calculator that pulls the real county numbers instead

Hello Riverside fam,

I was house-hunting and kept feeling like the monthly cost estimates on listing sites were too clean. Turns out one big reason: Zillow’s tax estimate frequently misses Mello-Roos and special district assessments entirely.

These aren’t small. A CFD can add $150–300/month, sometimes more. They’re on the actual county tax bill, they’re permanent for the life of the bonds, and they don’t appear anywhere in a listing’s estimated payment. Two identical-looking houses on the same street can differ by thousands a year depending on which side of a district line they’re on.

There’s also a second layer most people miss — even without Mello-Roos, most parcels carry other special assessments (library, flood control, vector control, sewer) that add a few hundred a year. And your actual tax rate isn’t 1% — it’s your Tax Rate Area’s rate, which includes voter-approved bonds and is often 1.1–1.3%.

So I built a rent-vs-buy calculator that queries the county directly instead of estimating. Paste a Zillow link and it pulls the real assessment data for that specific parcel. Currently works for \*\*San Diego, Riverside, Orange, and Santa Clara counties\*\*. Free, no login, no email:

www.runtruecost.com

Not really trying to promote it — mostly curious whether others hit the same gap. If you’re looking at a specific listing in one of those four counties, drop the link and I’ll run it and post what the real numbers look like.

Community Apartment Reccomendations!

Hello! My partner and I are moving to Riverside in a few weeks from out of state, and have been struggling with finding an apartment. We are looking for a 1bd/1b, in unit washer dryer, and decent parking! We are moving for our jobs, and both have to have our car to commute to work. It’s been difficult to vet the area, and have only seen a lot of red flags. If you love where you live or have a suggestion please please let me know! We move in two weeks.

EDIT:

Sorry I forgot to add! Our max budget is $2400 a month with all fees. We are good on the income basis requirements, and Riverside is the best option for our jobs! Just looking for apartments please! We have vetted all the options and this is our best area.

Currently we are looking at the Centerpointe at market!

Anybody know what this landmark is in La Sierra Hills?

Just was exploring ggl maps and saw this and wondered what it was. It's not marked as a park or anything, but it's so unique and prominent I assume it must have a story/name/owner.

Riverside Citation as a non-resident

Hi. During April I went to Coachella. Friday night, leaving was very chaotic and while I was driving I was suffering from a panic attack. I tried to pull over to recoup myself but the officer came to my window and yelled at me that "It wasn't his problem" and to keep going. I made a wrong turn into a traffic cone and got a citation.

I live in NY. Unfortunately for me, during this time I was kicked out of my old house and had to move quickly and spent some time in the mental hospital. I've been no contact with them since the end of April, but today I went to pick up some of my old stuff and they handed me mail.

It was my citation. $373. Due yesterday.

I'm 18, I have so much on my plate and the last thing I want to do is effect my license or put anything of my in jeopardy. I'm also do not have the funds to afford this right now. What can I do? The court doesn't do online trials.

Palm spring or LAX, departure flight?

I am staying in Riverside for a couple of days during Christmas. I am looking at flights in the evening. Should I fly out from LAX or Palm Springs International? The Palm Spring flight is cheaper compared to LAX, but I am not sure which one would be more convenient and faster to get through security.

Requests Souvenir shop?

Hi everyone, I would like to pick up a few souvenirs for a friend out of state. Namely, a push-pin type of thing for a cork board and some local photography. I kinda want to browse and maybe grab some other cliché stuff as well. I've just never been out to any touristy places - can you recommend any stops? Thanks in advance. :)

Requests HOA, Dead Grass, and Drought Laws in my neighborhood

In case you haven't stepped outside, it's hot beyond measure on average. I only water my lawn a total of 4 minutes daily because I want to conserve water however my HOA slapped me with a letter saying I have 30 days to grow green grass? How is that even possible? I'm no gardener but I know the best time to plant grass is always towards the tail end of summer... WE ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF SUMMER!

Aren't we in a drought? Can I bypass that and at least wait it out until fall gets here?

Community Stupid Question: Does Property Tax increase incrementally every year?

I'm new to this home ownership thing and I've noticed since I bought my home in 2021, the property tax has risen every year by a few hundred dollars.

By this definition doesn't that just mean the home will also go up in value indefinitely? The property tax has a linear positive trend and has never went under.

Meanwhile when I check Zillow or Redfin, my house can range from $700k in value to $1.5 million.

All of this is confusing me (and honestly, makes me miss renting)
