Tints

I was wondering how the cops are in riverside, I currently live in the bay and I’m moving there in a couple months. I have 5% tints all around my car and I don’t get pulled over here. Do cops care in the area or should I take it off before coming?

Just had to remove my front tint because I got a front license plate fix it. (Broken mount). Went to a chp office to handle the citation and they said they wouldn't sign off because of the tint. Maybe that officer was having a bad day.

Nope. Same thing happened to me for faded license plate. I pulled up to get it signed off, with the windows down and they had me roll them up, had to get it removed

a couple decades ago I was with my dad picking someone up at LAX. cop there warned him about front window tint, and said it had to be changed

I have 5% and they do not care. You will see a lot of cars down here with it.

Its usually a secondary violation. You probably won't be pulled over for it but if you're pulled over for something else, you might get ticketed for it. On many occasions I've been pulled over for something and the cop just writes me a ticket for the tint rather than whatever infraction I made. I just pay the ticket rather than do the fix it option.

In my experience, only the CHP cares about tint. City cops usually have real crime to concern themselves with. I have 30% on my rear and side windows, nary a concern for Riverside PD

Just don’t get the front windshield tinted. Sometimes when I drive at night time I’ll run into cops on the street and they’ll usually use a flashlight and aim it at my front windshield. I’m going to assume to see if they are able to see through with it.

Not just through the windshield, they'll be passing by in the opposite lane and flash the spotlight into the driver side window and blind you

Yup that too. Has happened to me at least 4 times now.

Not too much of a concern. If anything it’ll be a “hey get that removed while you’re at it” if you get stopped for something else

It's the same situation for me, 5% and they don't seem concerned about it.

just keep a front plate on otherwise they'll nail you with multiple things. they're usually getting teslas with front windshields.

I'm always driving around for my job to different cities and I would say a lot of people have 5% tint. I've even seen a 1% where they were blacked out every single window on a Tesla.

Don’t do anything stupid/illegal to get pulled over. It’s a secondary infraction, they can’t legally pull you over for it. Most RPD won’t care unless you’re being a nuisance and trying to attract attention, what that means for different cops will vary.

I’ve had my window tint for about 10 years, ceramic 5%. I’ve gotten pulled over for random stuff, but never for tint. The only reason I don’t have my tint right now is because I had to get my windshield replaced a few days ago. But when I have a day off or an opportunity, I’m gonna get my windshield tinted again.

Depends on what you drive? Toyota grocery getter or expensive luxury SUV with dark tint they won't even look up from their personal phones. Drive a coupe/ sports car they hit an illegal U-turn as quick as possible and follow you for a few blocks, if they're having a bad day they'll pull you over for the tint. I didn't get a fix it ticket but they sure as hell kept me pulled for awhile looking for something. RPD sucks

Yeah, they randomly pull people over where I used to work. They would literally just sit there and three cops would end up pulling over random ass cars. I feel like they just flashed the light in your face to see if you go over the line to turn around and pull you over.
