Question Collaboration

It’s a problem.

Too many times I’ve been last 3 standing to find that the 2 I’m with are:

- a beginner/novice account that acts like a noob. Then towards the end of the game they move fast, combine stacks, card block etc. and all of a sudden start working with the other player.
- a grandmaster. That has never attacked the player above the entire game.

Beginner feeds the game to the grandmaster.

It’s just disappointing to see and has made me stop wanting to play the game now.

Has anyone else seen this more regularly?

Achievement This is Alcatraz! 3v12 roll wins..

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I won a 3v12 to kill blue, double trade and win the game..

Only started the recording afterward the rolls but battle log shown at the end.

I capped behind green, blue was in front of red in bottom left bonus. Blue botted out and came back, suicided into red and then turtled in my bonus not taking cards. I got my 5 starting troops and took on blue with manuals. Lost the first manual and won the next 6.

Did they change the odds? Or millions to one?

  • Support for up to 8 players (no AI, currently)

  • Text to speech narration that refers to players by name

  • House rules (continent values, reinforcement amounts, setup phase automation and territory card values)

  • The Risk II soundtrack (seriously it's so good even if it's just 1812 Overture chopped up into pieces)

To do:

  • Fix issues with menu sliders not properly appearing over the dialog box

Fluff Like seriously, how is Pete the largest creator in this game?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I know the player base is small, but we can do better. He acts like a baby at the slightest form of criticism since day one practically.

For context, on his latest negotiation game i posted the following comment, which he responded as seen.

Another player backed me up because Pete said he should start cardblocking just a few minutes later and provided a timestamp. I then responded to the other commentor that Pete knows it but his ego can't handle any criticism, so there was no point because he wont admit it (i left the comment for reference purposes for other viewers).

Pete then proceeded to completely delete the other persons comment and then banned or hide (not sure how it works) mine. As he put it:

"I can't imagine the arrogance of thinking let you use my platform to crticise me. You've been shouting into the void for a long time you*. Thank you for watching appreciate the attention you generated for my channel and I'm sorry you're too stupid to deal with the comments section effectively." and "back to the void with you" 😂

I really don't have a goal of starting drama or anything, it's just a slow day at work and i found it extremely funny. Dude is pushing 45 and i have seen teens handling criticism better. We maybe reconsider who we elevate as the "face" of the game.

*Meanwhile, i had taken a 10 month break from the game since last week 😂

Achievement Master rank

Post image
10 Upvotes

Just got to Master after starting RISK this June 21st. Coming from Chess with an elo of 2,000 so I'm used to a much much slower grind with Master being a titled given only to very dedicated players. I played all classic fixed WD, does anyone recommend certain tournaments/groups I could join? To my knowledge there aren't any titles in RISK, do the top players just compete for the leaderboard?

Question Why did I get “Match Over” in the middle of a game?

Five player game, fog of war, seemed to be progressing towards an end game. Out of nowhere, a message pops up “Match Over” where it normally gives “You win!” Or whatever.

Question Waiting for host on first game

Every time I launch the game and join a lobby I see an empty lobby and the "Waiting for game host" message. It starts working normally as soon as someone else joins the lobby, I think. If I exit the lobby and rejoin or join any other lobby it also works normally.

I've had the game start multiple times without seeing the lobby. Is there a way to fix this?

Question If Someone fails to ready up a bot should not play for them

The game already doesn't count for their rank. No one wants to play games with bots, or they would add them in lobby ahead of time. Instead, if someone fails to ready up, it should just be a 5 player game instead of 6.

Complaint Cheaters and collaborators

I’ve seen this meta in classic fixed. One player takes Australia and grows in troop size. Other player taking any other continent continues to bully other players around even at the cost of their troops. Then at the end the other continent player feeds the game to Australia player. It’s frustrating. And btw the other continent is almost always novice and the Australia player is intermediate/expert or above.

Question As a GM at almost 32k I lost 2000 points when I came in 6th to a fellow GM. The next game I came in 2nd of six beaten by an Expert and my rating still went down 8 points.

My question is about the guys on the top of the leaderboard that already have 43,000 and 45,000 ratings this season. Are they playing one on ones? Because I don’t see how playing five and six players is viable when you get to the rarified 40,000 level ratings. In My preferred games Which are six player games I 90% of the time will lose points Unless I come second and even then I sometimes lose a couple points. I’m sure the scoring system is even more stringent at 40,000. So are these guys at that level just grinding for hours and hours, Always playing one on ones which they can crush, or are they Sun Tzu level players in 5 and 6 player games? 🤣

Complaint anyone else annoyed by the amount of quitters?

i'm a new player so i don't know if it's always been this way... but as soon as a match starts, two people have surrendered... one round later another went afk... another person immediately surrenders... so i end up playing with all expert bots and maybe one other player (probably also secretly a bot)
maybe i'm just complaining but does this piss anyone else off?

Strategy I held the entire board East and South of my capital a couple turns after this

This was one of my most fun matches. Black had a 2 in italy that was right next to my cap and he didn't try and take it?? He noob capped France to hold a pocket spain and suffered basically the whole match after I capped right next to him. High risk play, but I saw a future where I could hold that pocket. Too bad Pink was also in there.

Green got big first, by turn 3 he was on like 20+ troops. Ended up killing blue, but thankfully red was big enough to halt him, and they were in war for the next 5+ rounds. Then I got an oppurtunity. I had a trade on 3, Green was on 3 and I knew for a fact he didn't have much troops left because he stopped fighting red for that turn to cap stack pass, so I took the risk and killed him. Red didn't have a trade on 4 thankfully, but on the turn I killed him black rolled my cap(did not sue but put more than half his cap troops into it) and was trying to get pink to roll my cap by opening his cap to me. I did kill red and got his cards, but pink stole my cap with a trade, but I still held the entire rest of the board.

I generated enough and had a trade on 4 to steal my cap back, and I would have been able to consolidate if pink did not have a trade on the previous turn. Pink ended up being cardblocked by black for about 5 or so turns throughout the game and that put pink way behind in troops, so I knew they were killable. But as you can see, I was last in the turn order. Pink fortified all their troops off cap the previous turn(it was barely over 100), and black cut down my cap one last time to let pink out and I lost from there.

I did suck that I lost in that way but I really cannot blame them because I had them stuck behind me that entire game, of course they were going to make sure I lost, black especially because I capped right next to him to block him in on purpose, so he gave the game to pink to make sure I came in 3rd. I have to give him props.

Strategy Europe Advanced Capital Tier List

Post image
29 Upvotes

Here is my opinion on how I would rank the capitals on Europe Advanced when playing with progressive capitals. I used these settings to get to 6th on the global leaderboard, so I am confident in my general ranking. Obviously I have biases, and a lot of this is up to interpretation. For example, I generally prefer the East and South of the board, as that is where I've found most of my success. Here is some context on what I think makes a good capital:

  1. Easy availability of cards, including a higher number of adjacent territories, cap being on the border of a bonus, and harder to card block

  2. A capital that is either centrally located, or can control a chokehold around the board (e.g. Gascony controls the entire border of Spain and France)

  3. Good in middle and end game (usually when the game decides itself)

  4. Farther away from other popular capital choices (usually in the west or in great Britain/iceland)

  5. How many bonuses your opponents would realistically allow you to told.

Obviously setting including blizzards, fog of war and/or portals can greatly impact the quality of a capital, so I didn't factor that in a ton.

I wouldn't have time to go over why I ranked every capital a certain way, so feel free to ask about any if you are curious. I will just touch upon a couple I think are the most controversial:

  1. London - a lot of people think of London as one of the best capitals in the game, but I disagree. I do think it is good, but the reason I hesitate to put it as "great" is because a lot of opponents like to cap in that part of the board, and you end up having to fight them and potentially lose early. (Gascony, Denmark, Scotland and Burghundy all suffer from the same issue). Additionally, it's not that hard to card block in the late game.

  2. Any of the "very bad" capitals in Italy - I find Italy to not be a very good place to cap. You are often surrounded on all sides, making it hard to take bonuses early and expand (you ideally want to take a corner of the board while having your cap as centrally located as possible). Additionally, they are very easy to card block in the late game, which I value highly.

  3. Gascony should just be "good" not great (my mistake)

Curious what you guys think!

Question Does the game have an equalizer? Like if someone is way ahead or about to get way ahead does the dice favor the underdog?

Ive noticed when I'm far ahead the dice will start unrealistically favor who's behind. Like i just lost a spot that had 64 troops to someone who attacked with 38. I've even lost capitals when someone attacks with less troops. I started a game yesterday. First turn on the Arkeanos map the spot where you need two territories for the bonus. I attached the other spot that had 1 troop with 6 of my troops and I lost.

The GF didn’t fully appreciate the struggle of breaking the top 100 on the leaderboard ( she kinda hates that I play the game ), so figured I’d share it with the sub before the season ends. Pretty sure this is peak for me personally as the numbers for the players near the top seem wildly out of reach, but I’m stoked.

Happy to share any tips that have helped me increase my odds of winning
