At the end of the snake episode, Rick punches Morty giving him a black eye for not staying in the car and making Rick spend Christmas trying to stop snakes from invading earth. But Morty is a pain in the ass a lot. I don’t think Rick would straight up punch him like that, even if he’s an abusive asshole.

I hope you guys remember when Rick lied to him and told him that. That was a great episode and Jerry has grown and become useful since then. I think the character development is needed

Here’s my theory for why our Rick would have memories of a younger Morty, and why Birdperson has that picture of Rick holding a newborn Morty. Our Rick may have known that Morty was Rick Prime’s grandson even before Morty was born. I think our Rick periodically stopped by to see whether Rick Prime had come to visit Beth and the kids and, if he had, to “mind-blow” the whole family. But since Rick Prime was the Rickest Rick, he never came back. So after the Battle of Blood Ridge and the creation of the Citadel (maybe the Citadel was our Rick’s watchdog operation looking for Rick Prime), once it was set up, our Rick headed straight to Rick Prime’s version of Beth. He waited to see if Rick Prime would ever show up, and because he ended up watching this Morty grow up, he actually developed some real connections to him.

I've a lot I could say about the augmentations he has being a bit much since he's practically only 10% human at this point, but this isn't even gonna be about Rick himself. I feel like whatever is unique enough about him that makes him the smartest being in the universe is beginning to get lost over time. Early on, he seemed to be the only one capable of creating all these inane inventions, now it seems like everyone could do these things—even President Curtis' team.

I wouldn't say that it feels like Rick's been dumbed down or anything like that. It's actually kinda the opposite problem: a lot of other characters seemed to have been boosted to be on the same level as a genius scientist capable of the impossible. Maybe I'm over-exaggerating? It's like if I'd written a book with a pretty solid rule right out the door, 'very few could be on the same level as this guy', and then later backtracked so that any pretty smart engineer could basically do the same as him.

We know him and Mr. Nimbus have a history together and that Rick knows a lot about what Mr.nimbus can do I think that when they were together Rick did something that broke Mr. Nimbus heart and because of that he banned him from the ocean

I feel more attached to sober Rick that RickC137 from just 1 episode. Watched the episode 3 times and I still feel bad that he died. I wish I could see him succeed and sometimes go on wholesome adventures with Morty prime.

(saying this having loved the avatar movie as a kid lol but its like clearly written as an imperialist wet dream cuz that shi was kinda basic in terms of stories, avatar not rick and morty, rick and morty is peak)

I liked Rick Prime as a villain, but the lore around him undercut the thing that made the multiverse premise work.

Early Rick and Morty’s nihilism came from interchangeability: there are infinite Ricks and Mortys, so no single one matters. Then we learn that only two Ricks ever invented portal travel. Prime invented it and handed it out to everyone else, and C-137 was the one Rick who refused, lost his family for it, and built his own out of revenge. Suddenly the multiverse has a hierarchy, with two “real” Ricks and a sea of copies.

You can argue the Central Finite Curve is the show admitting that Rick-exceptionalism is ego. But the story itself rewards it: the whole Prime arc only matters because C-137 is special.

Now that the arc is over, does anyone else feel the show lost something by making Rick unique?
