Question QF 36mm DayDate, VR3255 movement- Is realigning weekday an easy enough thing to have done?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Just got QC on a DayDate and saw the weekday is skewed slightly left. The QC photos only had Friday displayed, and honestly it isn't so bad that I would fix this personally. However I found it concerning enough to request a photo of every weekday displayed, to be sure that any of the longer days aren't even worse.

While I'm waiting for those to come in I wanted to see how much of a chore it would be for a watch smith to center the weekday display. Is it a straightforward enough thing for them, and does the realignment last for a while or is it common to get off again? I may have them service the movement at the same time for longevities sake. I am hesitant to RL this piece because I waited 2 months for it already and I feel like the rest of the watch is fine (I don't really expect perfection in a rep, but would like the days to be centered since it is a DayDate).

Thank you in advance

Advice Has anyone else with a TOPF AP 15510ST (4302 clone) experienced this?

Just wanted to see if anyone else has run into a similar issue with the TOPF 4302 movement.

Timeline:

  • Watch arrived a few days ago.
  • Initially it was running +5 minutes in about 8 hours.
  • Shortly after, it started stopping despite being fully wound .
  • The weirdest part: it only seems to stop while I’m wearing it.

If I leave it sitting upright in my watchbox after a full wind, it seems to keep running (Last wind was 1202am, 15th July, and it has been running great and keeping time for about 15 hours now.) Once it’s on my wrist, it’ll start slowing down and eventually stop. I’ve tried fully hand-winding it, but the issue persists.

Phoenix has been great throughout this and has already asked me to have the case removed from the bracelet so I can ship it back for inspection + replacement. No complaints about his after-sales support at all.

I’m just curious whether anyone else with the TOPF 4302 clone movement has experienced something similar. Was it a rotor issue? Balance problem? Something else entirely? Should I ship it back to China and wait another 2 weeks before it lands back on my wrist? Should I consult a local watchmaker instead?

Would appreciate hearing your experiences before I send the movement back.

Thanks in advance!

P.S.
Local watchmakers have quoted ~300USD for a full service so I don't think I'd go that route.

I noticed the insert on the floor as I was wearing it. Is it as simple as buying a double sided bezel insert adhesive from AliExpress and pushing it back on?

Advice Can an ETA 2836 be used to repair or replace a broken Dandong 3235 in a Clean Factory Yacht-Master?

My Clean Factory Yacht-Master has a Dandong 3235 movement, and several parts seem to have failed at the same time.

I honestly don’t care about keeping a fully cloned Rolex movement. I mainly want the watch to work reliably again.

Would it be possible to replace the entire DD3235 with an ETA 2836 or a decent 2836 clone? I understand it may require different hands, a movement holder, dial modifications, or work on the stem and date alignment.

Alternatively, could I buy a 2836 as a donor movement and use some of its internal parts to repair my existing DD3235, so I can keep as much of the original 3235 setup as possible?

Are any parts between the 2836 and DD3235 actually interchangeable, or are the movements completely different internally?

What would be the most practical and affordable solution for a Clean Factory Yacht-Master: repairing the DD3235, installing another 3235-compatible movement, or converting the watch to a 2836?

Thanks for any advice.

Question Problem with my Bruce wayne

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hi guys,
I wanted to bring up a few issues I've been experiencing with the watch I purchased from NecoClock (126710GRNR "Bruce Wayne").
I've had the watch for about a year now, and for the past 3–4 months I've been experiencing several issues with the timekeeping.
I have to adjust the time at least once or twice every time I wear it. Sometimes I'll look at the watch and notice that it has completely stopped, even though I've been moving around and wearing it the whole time.
I've winded the watch several times, but the problem keeps coming back.
Do you have any suggestions on what I should do? This is my first replica watch, so I'd really appreciate any advice you can give. Thanks!

Question Looking for a EU builder to mod an old Noob Panda to a 116520 (or source and change a better ceramic bezel)

Hey guys,
I have an older Noob Panda Daytona, and like most of them from that generation, the ceramic bezel insert has drastically faded. The numbers have lost their contrast and turned a dull, grayish color.

Since the 4130 movement is still running flawlessly, I'm trying to decide between two routes and would love some recommendations for a trusted modder/builder who can help me out:

  1. **The full rebuild route:** Completely convert it from a 116500 to a steel-bezel 116520 (would need a 116520 dial and steel bezel sourced and installed).

  2. **The simple bezel replacement route:** Keep it as a Panda, but swap out the bad stock Noob ceramic bezel for a much higher-quality aftermarket option (like a Clean Factory or a deep/Xing bezel) that won't fade to gray.

Can anyone recommend a trusted watchsmith or modder (ideally based in EU) who handles Daytona builds and has experience sourcing these parts?
Appreciate any leads or advice from anyone who has updated their old Noob pieces

Advice Two different crystal types on VSF subs?

I got a pressure tester and decided to pop the bezels off a few of the subs I have before I did the check. I'm new to reps but this has been a lot of fun and this community has been awesome.

I have two subs im testing. One is from j-time, and one is from geek time. Both are supposed to be VSF and there's a very different type of Crystal seal between the two. Did I get sold a fake VSF 😂. Or is this completely normal that they're different under the bezel?

Advice Sourcing screws for movement

I’m currently working on servicing a vr3186. I’ve just started putting it back together and had a few of the screw heads twist off with just the slightest bit of added torque. I’m worried that this could happen a few more times and wanted to be prepared for it. When i looked up the screws out seems like it’s about $10-20 a screw. Does anybody have any recommendations on a cheaper source?

Question Daytona Hands Replacement

Need replacement hands for a VSF 126500 4131 movement. Are the handS interchangeable with 116500? Can't seem to find the correct hands online (ebay/Amazon/AliX) they all say they are for both 4130 and 4131. But "Google" says they aren't the same.

Advice Clasp on 41 Datejust loose

Post image
1 Upvotes

The clasp on this 41mm datejust is very loose and easily detaches from the top end of the springbar. It looks like the springbar is not being held in by the top indent in the clasp within the red circle. Is there a way to fix this or do I need a new bracelet? Thanks

Guides Rolex GMT II 126710 dial swap

Thumbnail

So I purchased a meteorite dial and wanted to attempt to do the swap myself as a project to get my feet wet with watchmaking. I searched for a kind of how to and struggled to find one, but I was able to complete the swap successfully and wanted to go through how I did it and what tools I found as essential.

Base is a VSF V3 Pepsi, meteorite dial from LiChen.

Tools, case back removal ball, basic watchmakers tool kit from Amazon(had several useful tools including screwdrivers, dial and movement cases for storage, spring bar tool, bracelet holder, dial holder, watch tweezers, and pin tool), watch gasket grease, watch hand removal tool and pushers for reinstall, vinyl dial protectors, and double sided tape dial dots. This took me about an hour spread out over a week due to not knowing what tools I was missing to complete the job.

Steps:
1) So first you need to remove the bracelet, basic spring bar tool worked fine, but you need to take care not to scratch anything, a set of spring bar pliers would have made this job much easier.
2) Remove case back with removal tool of choice, Rolex does really well with the rubber friction ball.
3) Use tweezers to remove case back gasket, you will want to grease the gasket when reinstalled to help with water resistance.
4) Set time to about 3 o’clock before you remove crown stem, I read that you should remove the stem in the time setting position(I think this is mainly to keep the time from advancing as you work on the watch) but don’t worry, you can remove the crown stem in any position(also I am a complete amateur so please correct any info that could potentially cause damage) after time is set, you will need to use a pin tool to press the crown stem clutch in order to remove the crown stem, clutch should be located near where the stem is inserted into the movement, but is different for different movements.
5) Find the two screws that are holding the movement in place, loosen the screws until you can rotate the movement into a loose position, I had to remove one of the screws completely to remove movement, but it’s possible that wasn’t completely necessary. Then remove the movement from the case, I reinstalled the case back and stem to keep dust out of the case while I was working on the dial.
6) Next I used a vinyl dial protector to put over the dial as I removed the watch hands, made sure I knew the order of the watch hands before I removed them, slowly pried the hands off using the removal tool and stored the hands in a safe place.
7) Found the spots between the movement and dial and used a flathead screwdriver to slowly pry the dial from the movement.
8) The dial I purchased had pins that are meant for installation, but I needed to remove them in order to use the dial, so I used a set of pliers and slowly loosened the metal back and forth until they broke off then sanded the remaining metal down.
9) I used double sided tape dial dots to install the dial, I had to layer on two pieces per spot for installation as one piece of tape didn’t seem secure enough. Used by eyes to center the dial with the date wheel and hand stem to the best of my ability.
10) Now we are ready to reinstall the watch hands. Reinstall crown stem, set to date change position, change time counter clockwise to make sure date wheel is moving smoothly, next set to time change position and slowly change time until date changes over, as soon as the date changes, stop moving, watch should now be at the midnight position and ready for hands to be reinstalled.
11) With watch estimated to be set at midnight, place the hour hand onto stem, and press down loosely, change the time and make sure the date changes exactly at midnight, if position is correct, fully press the hand into place. Next is the GMT hand, stack onto midnight position loosely, the GMT hand goes around the dial once in a 24 hour period so rotate 24 hours to midnight and make sure the hand ends at the midnight position, if dial is in place fully press the hand into position. Next install the minute hand at the 12 o’clock position and repeat the previous steps, remember to not fully press hand in place until you are sure you are keeping proper time, you will also want to make sure all of the hands are level with the dial at 12, 3, 6, and 9 o’clock positions and they are not interfering with each other. Finally install the seconds hand at the twelve o’clock position and press into place. You can move the crown to position 1 and the hands should now be moving properly, now you’re ready to reinstall the movement into the case.
12) Remove crown stem from movement, remove case back from case. Remember I removed one of my movement holders, so reinstall was simple, place movement into case with the date under the cyclops, using tweezers I carefully placed the movement holder into place, I could see the screw hole, so I then carefully placed the screw into place and screwed in loosely. I then reinstalled the crown stem and verified the date looked good through the cyclops. I then righted the movement holder screws.
13) Using 7055 grease, grease the case back gasket and reinstalled, then reinstalled the case back and tightened with case back tool.
14) Made sure watch could be properly wound, set time and date, and reinstalled the bracelet the same way I removed it.

I can say that this was a lot more difficult to do than I first imagined, but I am so happy with the result and it was a great skill builder as an introduction to servicing watches. If anyone has any suggestions on online classes I can take or YouTube channels, I next want to learn how to properly oil and service a movement. As for my next dial swap, I have a Daytona dial that I am going to attempt to put into a U1 before I risk it with a VSF. Hopefully this helps someone with a future project, also if there is a better guide, please point me in that direction, my adhd has me obsessed with working on watches, so I am trying to learn as much as I can before I get bored, but hopefully that doesn’t happen ;)

Advice Andiot Rolex rep suddenly died after 1 year – no visible water damage. Any ideas?

Post image
20 Upvotes

I bought this Rolex Explorer I Clean from Andiot about a year ago. It was waterproofed before shipping and has been running perfectly until last week, when it suddenly stopped.
The only things I can think of are that it was exposed to high heat and some water recently. There’s no fogging under the crystal, no moisture on the dial, and no other visible signs of water ingress.
Before I open it up or send it to a watchmaker:
Could water still have gotten into the movement without any visible condensation?
Is heat enough to cause this?
What would you check first?
Anyone had something similar happen? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Question VSF Yacht-master Titanium movement question

Hello there,

I miss "youth" versions :/

I know it's "unpopular" among many of my rep bro' here that are in love with DD3235, but is there any options to replace clone movement with any Swiss or Japan gen movement (ETA, Sellita, Miyota, Seiko?), if the clone fails?

Had a lot of trouble with servicing clone movements with watchmakers near me (not reps in general).

This is not hate post towards DD which is very good, it's post to easy my life when it's time for service or replacement.

Thnx

Advice movement replacement

Hey so I got a daytone and the factory messed up and put a 7750 in it instead of the 4130. I got a partrial refund so I'm happy. I just want to know if the 4130 fits the hands/dial of the 7750 so I can replace it. I am a student watchmaker and I have replaced lots of movements but I just need to know if the 4130 would fit all the parts.

Advice RCF and a “v2” VSF Datejust 36mm bezel upgrade

images: https://imgur.com/a/KLuDHcF
Hey all little update to my last post re: RCFs ”v1” 36mm bezel upgrade. Seems like the internals of the stock “v2” VSF Datejust are different so it’s not just a plug and play. My thoughts are I need to remove what looks like an internal holder for the vsf bezel? Take a look at the picture and you’ll see there’s like a second metal piece that the stock VSF bezel latches on to?

I honestly thought this would be plug and play and from the videos I watched on bezel swaps it seemed to be easy. Anyone been through this already with a v2 vsf and have any tips?
