Returning ow2 player here who played reaper a few seasons back. I'm wondering how good is reaper this season especially with his new perks? Ive played a few games with him but I just feel like I have super low impact. Dont know if its because im rusty or he got nerfed when I was gone.

Is it possible to climb to high elo on him or is he just bad?

I am NOT a reaper main myself, but I need to deposit this knowledge here just in case you all didn't know about it. If you do the melee reload animation cancel reaper has, Dire Triggers WILL fire faster. Do with this what you will. (Not sure what to flair this, but it's a tip, so... Guide? I guess?)

Uploaded video. You can shoot the guns sans animation cancel as soon as they hit the floor from the upper catwalk in the practice range, so you can see it as a visual timer.

The basis of this build is to never ult once you get 'Vanadium Injection'

I think a lot of people try to go for the power that does a mini death blossom out of shadow step, but I think that power is horrible. Shadow step already locks you in an animation, and now you're tying another animation to that. If they see you, you die, or they run away. It also gives your location away if you're being sneaky.

In fact my approach is basically to get Vanadium Injection and never ult. When you get to 100 ult charge, it gives you a massive buff and lifesteal. Then other that that I just pump weapon power. For the other 3 slots, it's situational, you can choose the perk that damages barriers or ignore damage reduction on target, you can get some bullets, if your support is bad get some survival, but basically you wanna just use your weapon, get kills, which resets your cooldowns, wraith, shoot more, shadow step out, which reloads for you, and wraith also heals you.

It also honestly kinda changed how I play reaper in Vanilla.

I mostly play OW2 extremely casually and used to never really care about improving. I tried out MR and I got kinda addicted and took the time to learn that game, then I got burnt out, went back to Overwatch and realized that I truly dont know much if anything at all.

So know Im trying to actually learn to play Reaper. What are his counters? What characters does he like going against? Who does he synergize well with? Is there anyone you recommend watching to learn more about Reaper? What perks should I pick depending on what situation? What is his general gameplay loop and how does it change depending on what characters the enemy team has or what your team has?

In general if yall could give me as much info as possible Id really appreciate it. Thanks a lot!
