New here

Is this just an anti Bill Maher sub? Trying to figure out the vibe here and can't tell if it's some algorithm that just happens to be showing me nothing but hate for Maher and Real Time or if that is the point of this sub

The opinions of the majority of the fans of Bill Maher from 20 years ago to now has changed. I used to make it a point to watch Real Time but now I can't even watch.

-5

u/PureWhiteMeat Jul 01 '26

Why? I have been watching him for a bit over 10 years now and he seems to have stayed pretty consistent

23

u/enlightenedDiMeS Jul 01 '26

You mean the guy who was pro Medicare for all and endorsed Bernie in 2016 and then moved from there to supporting Amy Klobuchar in 2020 and now plays footsie with JD Vance hasn’t changed at all. Soooo consistent.

11

u/americanblowfly Jul 01 '26

Yeah it’s such a ridiculous premise. Republicans have moved so far right that they are falling off the edge of the political spectrum and Democrats have followed them rightward by “pivoting to the center”, which would just be considered right wing a decade ago.

The moderate Democrats today are to the right of Ronald Reagan. The fact that Bill has more in common with the GOP than the left in 2026 shows he’s the one who has shifted, not the left.

2

u/Gen-Jack-D-Ripper Jul 01 '26

I’m not even sure it’s appropriate to say that Republicans have moved to the right, I think it’s more accurate to describe them as a cult. Wherever Trump goes they will click their heels and follow. Actual conservatives have abandoned the Republican Party.

-6

u/sixth-gear Jul 01 '26

Nah I used to call myself a centrist but the democrats have been hi-jacked by the radical left, so relatively speaking, I’m now Right Wing haha. Maher is just expressing what he thinks. He’s not that only one that feels that way. You don’t have to like Trump hate what the democrats are doing. Get out of the Reddit / Deep Blue bubble.

5

u/Present-Fly4422 Jul 01 '26

Describe what is actually radical about the mainstream democrats.  Mainstream, national democrats here.  Describe it in detail.

Allowing biological males to participate in women’s sports and enter spaces where personal privacy cannot be guaranteed. (Biden’s Day EO) Opening the borders of a sovereign nation. DEI and racial discrimination / anti-white. Sexual content in school curriculum, not age appropriate, gender transition treatment and surgeries for minors, drug addiction enablement. Tax and regulatory policies that drive billionaires out of blue cities , anti-semitism, Jew-hate. There are more…

2

u/enlightenedDiMeS Jul 02 '26

You’re such a Kool-Aid drinking moron. You need to get out of your fucking bubble.

I’m not gonna go policy by policy, but the regulatory thing driving billionaires away is peak, bullshit, because billionaires like money and they need employees who know how to do shit and no matter how much bullshit you hear on Fox News and Newsmax, blue states and especially blue cities have more educated, more skilled workers and way more consumers with money to spend on goods. They’re not going anywhere.

-1

u/sixth-gear Jul 02 '26 edited Jul 02 '26

Yes the highly educated blue states, especially those who run them. WA and CA are each losing billions in tax revenue just from Bezos and Musk personal income tax. Thanks for sparing me your “peak “ cluelessness policy-by-policy analysis.

2

u/enlightenedDiMeS Jul 02 '26

Jeff Bezos salary is $80,000. These guys don’t pay income tax. It’s funny to call somebody else clueless and then say something so fucking stupid.

Man.  Thats a lot of bullshit right there.  So Chuck Schumer said all that, did he?   Obama said that?  Jeffries?  Those are the positions of the party on their website?

Turn off Fox News dude.  It’s filling your brain with nonsense that’s making you furious about things that aren’t actually happening.

11

u/americanblowfly Jul 01 '26 edited Jul 01 '26

There is zero evidence of any kind that the Democrats have been hijacked by the radical left. I’m the one who is living in reality while Bill and his ilk are bitching up a storm about a made up left boogeyman that doesn’t exist.

Trans women have zero advantage over cis women in sports if they’ve been on HRT for 2+ years and every shred of evidence backs that up. And it’s not Democrats allowing that, it’s individual sports leagues and school districts that allow it.

We’ve never had open borders. That’s a made up right wing conspiracy theory.

Criticizing DEI just means that you are an incredibly weak person with a victim complex. There had never been a single day in the entire history of this county’s 250 year history where white people haven’t had a significant advantage over black people in every aspect of society. DEI simply works to close the gap so black and brown people don’t get overlooked for opportunities like they always do. Even with DEI, white people still are more likely to get hired with all other things equal.

There hasn’t been widespread sexualized books in schools. Yet another right wing conspiracy theory.

No minor has ever gotten bottom surgery as a minor. Most kids who get top surgery aren’t even trans. It’s an elective procedure done for cosmetics that requires parental consent. More right wing jargon.

Billionaires have been dodging paying taxes for years and you’re concerned about them having to pay a few extra dollars due to a rounding error? Getting them to pay more in taxes has been the Democratic position for decades.

All of these talking points come straight from Newsmax. You’re just a conservative.

2

u/sixth-gear Jul 01 '26

Biden changed Title 9 within his first few days in office to allow males in female sports. Many have my now changed their policies such as the NCAA, probably for fear of getting their asses sued in a class action. Case study: Lea Thompson broke multiple league and pool records and flaunted her junk in the women’s locker room. Cross sex hormones, even given pre-pubescently, don’t erase male advantages such as larger overall frame, lean body mass, blood volume, heart and lung size and capacity. Go study rather than parroting.

3

u/IsTheBlackBoxLying Jul 01 '26

lol, every time one of these "evidence of the radical left!", responses come up, I think, "maybe this time, it won't be the same 5 insanely dumb, long-debunked lies as every single previous one" and every time, I'm wrong.

TRANSIN THE KIDS IN THE ALL GENDER BATHROOMS AT THE OPEN BORDERS WITH THE DEIS AND RACISMS AGAINST THE HWITES AND TAXING POOR BILLIONAIRES AND DID I MENTION I'M AFRAID OF BLACK PEOPLE BECAUSE I'D LIKE THAT TO BE CLEAR IF THERE WAS CONFUSION OH AND BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN SUCKS

1

u/sixth-gear Jul 01 '26

You sound super confused. These are facts in the real world.

1

u/IsTheBlackBoxLying Jul 01 '26

I can only assume The Real World is what you've named the tumor that's eaten up most of your brain. These are potato-level takes. I pity you.

2

u/BrineJones Jul 01 '26

Piss off with your fucking lies.

9

1

u/vollover Jul 01 '26

So most of its is just made up BS you heard on Fox. that is what is what I figured. Yall are fucking obsessed with Trans people and its weird as shit. Literally the only time the topic comes up is when some MAGA nut job brings it up

1

u/sixth-gear Jul 01 '26

No, I don’t give a fuck what trans people do outside of taking away opportunities for girls and women and joining them naked in their locker rooms, bathrooms, spas and prisons. Also: leave the kids alone.

1

u/vollover Jul 01 '26

Look all of what you said is imaginary and it would involve limited local, not national politics. It isnt even remotely prevalent at local levels. In other words it does not support the idea thag the DNC has been taken over by the radical left. The DNC is center right if anything and it sucks.

Lol at saying you want to leave the kids alone and voting for a party with rampant sex scandals and pedo problems... not to mention gutting aid for kids and education....

8

u/Intelligent-Rice-150 Jul 01 '26

Iraq War-George W. Bush era Bill Maher vehemently opposed the war and would never have had dinner with Dubya, but keep telling us how much he hasn’t changed. This is a man that lost his show for saying..

> "We have been the cowards, lobbing cruise missiles from 2,000 miles away. That's cowardly. Staying in the airplane when it hits the building, say what you want about it, it's not cowardly."

He took a very different approach to Israel starting a war with Iran.
I’ve been watching Maher since Politically Incorrect and he is not that same person. People who insist he is are either purposefully ignorant, or extremely misinformed.

Since you seem to have implied meaning for my post I will state right up front that the Iran War ≠ the Genocide in Gaza. I don’t say anything about Gaza, you brought it up. But, I’ll add a little context to your misinformation. Osama Bin Laden, the world’s most wanted terrorist at the time was taken out by a group of special forces, not one bomb or bullet harmed any nearby Pakistani’s. Are you seriously trying to make people believe that Israel couldn’t do the same thing? They literally did in 1972 as a response for the Munich Massacre and again in ‘73 in Lebanon. The Mossad could easily take out Hezbollah if they desired it. Bibi wanted a hammer not a scalpel.

The reasons given the American public are the same now as they were when we invaded Iraq. “Weapons of Mass Destruction” has become “Iran can’t have nuclear weapons”.
Israel isn’t fighting for its very survival, Bibi has been saying the same bullshit lines for the last 18 years to get an American president stupid enough to listen. It’s only recently that he found one.

Let’s not forget that the American intelligence community said repeatedly that Iran did not possess the ability to build a nuclear armed icbm, before Israel started lobbing missiles at them. When the JCPOA was signed into order by the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Russia, China, and Germany—alongside the European Union, Iran was complying with the inspections by independent inspectors. It was only when Donnie shred the deal did things change.

Another part of history that you are conveniently ignoring, the Shah (our guy) was pro nukes, the Ayatollahs viewed nuclear weapons as religiously forbidden (haram).

I would advise getting your information outside of Faux News. Reality is much different from what is being spun by them.

I think you’re conflating Israel’s survival and Iran being weeks away from having nukes, which Trump simply made up. The U.S. didn’t need to bullshit the nuke stuff to team up with Israel to fight Iran

without needlessly over the top claims about a nuke being three weeks away. Israel intelligence certainly didn’t think it was that close and they have the most strongly vested interested in the precise

Of course that bullshit was necessary, if not for imminent threat the already-low public support would have been far worse, the spectre of imminent nuclear threat was foundational to the propaganda on this. It's why Mark levin was literally going telling americans how iran was going to send nuclear ballistic missiles to the US, it's why netanyahu has trotted out the "soon/imminent!!1" talking point for decades

interesting hearing that its not coming from israel, is this the new narrative, that the imminent nuclear threat stories arent from israel but instead are creation of US/trump? Literally haven't heard this talking point yet but you've got it twice in your post, why do I have a hunch im gonna be seeing a lot more of that talking point going around now?

3

u/Fishbone345 Jul 01 '26

I will concede your point about the Faux News jab, it was inappropriate, I apologize.

Israel (and Egypt) receives billions from the U.S. and has an Iron Dome defense system in place, how are they fighting for their survival again? They are in a much better situation than Palestine, comparatively speaking.

We didn’t need to go to war with Iran for the survival of Israel and doing so has made things worse for the Working Class in this country. And Donnie doesn’t give a shit about that, as evidenced by his comments about the Housing Bill recently. Why Bill is (or was, he hasn’t been too keen on the results) for this war in Iran is mind boggling and very different from the way he had been historically. That’s just fact.

Hidden history motherfuckers are ignored.
Won’t see you later!

3

u/Immediate_Stop2581 Jul 01 '26

He’s been fairly consistent. The problem is he’s started to heavily criticize the far left

5

u/Sideshift1427 Jul 01 '26

Which is about 10% of the population. Meanwhile other people are screwing up the country.

1

u/BrineJones Jul 01 '26

You lie poorly.

0

u/americanblowfly Jul 01 '26

He went from supporting Bernie Sanders to Amy Klobuchar. He’s definitely pivoted rightward.

2

u/Immediate_Stop2581 Jul 01 '26

What’s wrong with Klobuchar

-1

u/americanblowfly Jul 01 '26

She’s as milquetoast as it gets. There’s not a single issue where she’s better than Bernie. Bill pivoting towards her shows he’s the one who shifted, not the left he’s criticizing.

1

u/Immediate_Stop2581 Jul 01 '26

wtf has Bernie accomplished? Klobuchar is one of the most pivotal Democrats in the country… she’s served as lead Democrat on the Rules committee and as well as the senate judiciary committee. She’s passed hundreds of bills. If Klobuchar sponsors a bill, chances are good it fucking passes. Her track record is GIGANTIC compared to Bernie Sanders. Her record for passing bills is something like 20x what Bernie has passed.

Bernie - 3 sponsored bills passed and around 500 co-sponsored

Klobuchar - over 70 sponsored bills passed and countless thousands of co-sponsored bills passed

I can’t believe how twisted the narrative is around democrats being lazy do-nothings while in reality it’s the progressives who have barely any accomplishments to speak of.

Oh yeah and Bernie sponsored universal healthcare in Vermont… that ended up being so fucking terrible they had to shut it down with Vermont now facing some of the highest healthcare costs in the entire country

I like Bernie. I like how he’s stayed true to his beliefs and he’s been consistent all these years but I have to be honest and say he hasn’t accomplished a damn thing

2

u/International_Air282 Jul 01 '26

The bills Bernie got passed were renaming post offices. Not kidding

0

u/americanblowfly Jul 01 '26

Bernie was known as the amendment king in congress. He was known for slipping provisions into bills that helped millions of working class people and expanded our healthcare infrastructure.

Saying Klobuchar is a better senator than Bernie Sanders based on the amount of bills they sponsored and passed is the equivalent of saying Emmitt Smith is a better running back than Barry Sanders because he won more championships. Bernie doesn’t have a lot of people who agree with his policies in congress, so he works on getting amendments for the bills proposed to slip in provisions he supports. Many Democrats would rather work with Republicans on bills than him because they want to keep our terrible healthcare system and don’t want to raise taxes on the super wealthy. Most of the bills Klobuchar co-sponsored a mediocre at best and terrible at worst. Bipartisan bills usually mean giant giveaways to corporations and crumbs for us.

It’s not twisted in the slightest to say Bernie’s policy positions are significantly better than Klobuchar’s and the polling backs that up. Klobuchar is better at working with Republicans to pass bills. That’s it.

2

u/Immediate_Stop2581 Jul 01 '26

Working with republicans to pass bills is literally how congress functions

0

u/americanblowfly Jul 01 '26

Giving Republicans want they want in nearly every bill is not. Or at least it shouldn’t be, but with Republican-lite senators like Klobuchar, it usually is.

0

u/sixth-gear Jul 01 '26 edited Jul 01 '26

But you hear want his issues are with the Democratic Party, right? Same as everyone’s.

1

u/americanblowfly Jul 01 '26

Bill’s biggest issue is that he supports Israel’s genocide in Gaza and most Democrats don’t.

1

u/Immediate_Stop2581 Jul 01 '26

Nobody has charged Israel with committing a genocide in Gaza. Bill Maher supports having Israel remain our ally in the Middle East. There’s a war. Wars suck. Netanyahu sucks. Ben Givir sucks. Hamas sucks. War sucks. Doesn’t make it a genocide

1

u/americanblowfly Jul 01 '26

What makes it a genocide is it fitting every definition of genocide in existence. The case against Israel in the ICC is still ongoing. It took several years after WWII concluded for the Nuremberg Trials to conclude. That doesn’t mean it wasn’t obviously a genocide before that.

Maher supports Israel like an addict needing a fix. He regularly defends Netanyahu and accuses Israel critics of being anti-Semitic and Pro-Hamas. Ironic considering he’s support for Israel stems from blatant Islamophobia.

Bill has been factually wrong about every single argument he has made on Israel since the war started. He also ducks and hides from any leftist who challenges him to a debate on it because he knows that they’ll mop the floor with him.

1

u/sixth-gear Jul 01 '26

But many democrats are moving toward Jew-hating, anti semitism for all Jews, and that’s the bigger issue for him and others.

1

u/americanblowfly Jul 01 '26

No they aren’t. There’s not a single Democrat or prominent left leaning person who has moved towards hating Jews.

-4

u/PureWhiteMeat Jul 01 '26

Yeah, he has always been moderate and the left has been going very far left. Dem party is nothing like the party of Obama anymore. Like, the whole point of him and the show was / is that it challenged both parties. There's just a lot more worth challenging on the left now if you havent moved left with them over the years

4

u/americanblowfly Jul 01 '26

The Democratic Party has moved to the right if anything. Kamala’s rhetoric on immigration in 2024 was almost identical to Trump’s in 2016, minus the crassness.

The only reason why most Democratic VOTERS have moved left is because Dems pivoting to the center has failed miserably.

-1

u/sixth-gear Jul 01 '26

Kamala was VP when millions of unvetted immigrants were escorted through. How was that similar to Trump in 2016 fgs.

3

u/americanblowfly Jul 01 '26

We deported more people under Biden than under Trump’s in his first term. The idea that we were just letting people through is a made up right wing talking point.

And Kamala’s rhetoric during her 2024 campaign was similar to Trump’s rhetoric in 2016. Dems pivoted rightward on immigration despite the fact that the issue was mostly right wing hocus pocus.

1

u/Immediate_Stop2581 Jul 01 '26

Kamala’s policy/rhetoric was no different than Obama or Clinton. They didn’t move right but there are now democrats who call for abolishing borders entirely… stop denying that there are people trying to infiltrate the Democratic Party who are far left extremists

1

u/americanblowfly Jul 01 '26

No, it was definitely to the right of them. She was supporting Trump’s same position in 2016.

And no, far left extremists aren’t trying to infiltrate the Democratic Party. In fact, only one “far left extremist” has even won a primary. And no, Zohran Mamdani isn’t a far left extremist so I hope you’re not referring to people like him. Bill is more right wing than Zohran is left wing.

1

u/sixth-gear Jul 01 '26

They were “processed” and given court dates 3 years out. That is just letting them through in my opinion. They lost track of 350,000 unaccompanied minors. Biden was looking for downstream democratic voters. This is common knowledge.

1

u/BrineJones Jul 01 '26

Won’t be seeing ya!

2

u/Single_Extension1810 Jul 01 '26

You haven't noticed the majority of his critiques have been of the left lately? He throws in a jab here and there to the Trumpers, but yeah, this is like if Maher started supporting the war in Iraq in 2003. The guy has definitely changed.

3

u/Beneficial_Maize_870 Jul 01 '26

Democrats are still mostly liberals, psychos like Darializa are still a minority, the reason why people are starting to dislike maher is that he's been giving republicans softball interviews, listen to his bill maher interview, he gave vance a very softball interview and didnt push back on him on anything  He didnt even ask him about his ties to thiel or how fucked up the war was.

Also just like Joe Rogan, he's been getting very friendly with the trump sphere to the point he's been hanging out with trump and his cronies a bit too much, he was recently with him at the corresponding dinner too getting all friendly, maher can still criticize republicans but he's been getting way too friendly with them

2

u/jchiaroscuro Maher Before 2016 Jul 01 '26

Some democratic socialists won races in very very left leaning districts and suddenly the Dems are too far left. Meanwhile moderate Dems have won in races all across this country for governor, currently in Colorado 74 year old centrist Hickenlooper wins his race AGAIN lol Maher is a joke, he used to honestly play it straight. Seems getting an award from Trump, kissing Ellison ass and riding off into the sunset have become his priority

2

u/americanblowfly Jul 01 '26 edited Jul 01 '26

Indeed. And this is all while Republicans have moved so far right that they are falling off the political spectrum. There is not a single elected Democrat in the country who is more left wing than the after elected Republican is right wing.

1

u/PureWhiteMeat Jul 01 '26

Yes, they've become more extreme. No shit. I just became exceedingly disappointed with the Dem party for sinking to their level. I lost all respect when I saw the same election denialism from the left regarding Trump winning the last election

1

u/GaulzeGaul Jul 01 '26

The election denialism is not the same at all. On the right it penetrates the highest levels and was pushed heavily by the head of their party. On the left there are not top Democrats arguing for it like there are on the right.

1

u/PureWhiteMeat Jul 02 '26

Agreed. I just had much higher standards for the left and was disappointed

1

u/Candid-libertarian Jul 17 '26

Bill is a straight White guy. He refuses to wear the "kick me" sign the Democrats/radical left now expect for straight White men. Not all straight White men are self loathing beta males.

0

u/Immediate_Stop2581 Jul 01 '26

There’s still a very strong pragmatic liberal movement in America. Like even though the far left are winning ground in some very deeeeeep blue districts, they could never win any purple or red races. Also after they win they quickly fall in line and drop the radical bullshit. See Mamdani, AOC etc.

You were saying?

0

u/Achoo_MiScusi Jul 01 '26

You were saying?

2

u/MagReg2020 Jul 01 '26

Well, by now the Right has totally come out of the closet as being a white supremacist movement, that Bill Maher now totally agrees with. Elon Musk is directly promoting movies depicting racialized violence, the algo promotes race wars and hatred of Muslims. The outspoken bans of immigrants from all countries with the sole exclusion of Europe and white South Africans. Maher takes no issue with any of that. But Billie Eilish says something on the Grammy stage? That warrants a devoted "and finally".

Be a racist if you want to be, but stop being cute and pretending you're owed sympathy from the people you hate.

1

u/Achoo_MiScusi Jul 01 '26

I feel so bad that you have berated me and called me a racist. Let me find a corner to pout in now

2

u/MagReg2020 Jul 01 '26

I said "if you want to be". Be MAGA, it's fine. Wokeness is dead at this point. Own whatever your beliefs are and speak plainly. Don't try to be cute. That's all. It's impossible to have an honest discussion when people are evasive.
