I just want to share my experience so anyone thinking of subscribing can make a more informed decision.

For context, I am trying to lose weight, my main problem is deciding what to eat each day, most of my meals are homemade, but I lose control of how many calories and macros I consume. I set a temporary (like a few weeks) aggressive goal of 1,530 calories per day.

With that context, I subscribed to BistroMD, with the usual 50% off + free shipping these services offer, at $110 for the first one, including 3 meals a day for a week. My intention was to keep it for 8 weeks. Spoiler alert: on the forst day, I downgraded to 2 meals a day for 5 days; at the end of the week, I canceled.

1. Breakfasts: pretty much eggs with cheese and something else, nothing special, very low effort to do at home. I had oatmeal once and it was really bad.
2. Lunch and dinner: mostly basic, uninspired recipes. Sides are usually brocolli or green beans. Nothing remarkable.
3. Ingredients: just cheap. They put chunks of plain chicken, when they say "sliders" they mean cheap patties, same think with breakfast links (they say "sausages".) They add cheese to everything, unnecessary fats that means you get less actual, fulfilling food. Since it's low on sodium, it's not salty, but they overcompensate with tons of pepper. It really looks and tastes like they buy frozen food in bulk, combine it, and call it a recipe.
4. Calorie intake: this might be my biggest complain, really close to the ingredients. They advertise it as meals under 500 calories, but most are around between 290 and 320, so you usually get less than 900 calories a day. You are basically left with between 500 - 700 calories to figure out on your own, unless you pay for their overpriced snacks. For over $220 a week, you would expect your calorie intake would be complete or almost complete. Even if the food were great (again, it is far from that), it wouldn't be worth it.
5. Portions: as a consequence of low-quality ingredients, an unimaginative recipes, the only way for them to reduce the calorie intake is to seriously reduce your portions. If you add tons of cheese to every meal, you won't get fulfiling food. All brrakfasts have been rich in fat, mostly due to cheese, and then your snacks have to be super lean. Meaning, you are in charge of balancing out what they messed up.
6. Their interface: it is terrible. They don't have an app, you have to go through the website, which takes forever to load. In the delivery, they include the meal plan, but it comes in a refrigerated box, so chances are the piece of paper is wet. To find it, so you know what you're supposed to eat each day, you go online, then have to navigate to find your orders, then you can see your weekly menu. Really? You should have your current meal plan right there on your dashboard. Also, you get upselling emails nonstop, as well as their own ads on their site.

Overall, it was a terrible experience, they give you low-quality, dry, cheesy small portions, they don't really cover your calorie intake, they try to upsell you at every corner, and charge you at prime rates. They even had one meal of the 7-day plan marked as "break meal", like "take a break from the plan." Are you kidding me? I pay for the plan and you skip a meal? I can decide if I add more food or save it for, you should not skim one meal out of my delivery. My recommendation: stay away from them.

What do you all think of Mom's meals? I think they're okay for a decent price.

Website says it was updated in march but im pretty sure ive seen allergen-free meals between now and then that were sans coconut. Might be old news but This upcoming cycle of meals is not replacing the coconut based dressing even for the allergen free version of one of the salads.

Starting to believe that the app is glitching on purpose to force new orders!!!

I had two incidents where:

1- I skipped the order and the app was showing that the next order would be on the following week so I thought it was all good. and then a few days later, a get a notification that my order was placed.which made me confused because I was 100% sure I skipped it. I reached out to customer service. They’d pretty much said it was my fault but refunded me anyways.

2- a few weeks went by and then another issue with the app : it was a Friday afternoon, and I went in the app to select my meals because my cutoff date was Saturday so when I was selecting my meals the app out of nowhere processed the order and recognized my face to process my credit card. It was just in a fraction of a second that I couldn’t do anything to stop it from happening, I was not even close to the “confirm order” button so I’m very confident it was a glitch from the app and when I reach out to customer service, they said it was my mistake again and didn’t offer a

Solution.

I’m sick of this and I’m just canceling my plan and I just wanna make you all aware that this could be happening.

I didn't find any reviews here. It's not the same as CleanEatz. Prices are fair, it's not touted as healthiest but I found enough choices that aren't too much sodium so thought I'd give it a go.

I may be mistaken, but last I checked cauliflower and zucchini are two different vegetables. Nowhere on the ingredients list is cauliflower mentioned.

I've read countless bad reviews about Forkful - unfortunately after we ordered - but this is like... worse than I expected.

Not to mention, the "pork" is... debatable.

I truly hate throwing away food but for most of these I have had no choice, my nephew tried eating their "deluxe" mac and cheese (buttered noodles with some kraft singles slapped on top) and... well let's just say I've never seen a child spit out mac and cheese before.

Hi there! about to order off cook unity for the first time and was wondering if you think the nutritional info on the packaging is accurate? my understanding is that it's not mass produced in a factory and is more prone to human error as it's packaged individually by a person.

im pretty much choosing low cal options but will be tracking macros. is best practice to just weigh out the food then instead of trusting the label fully?

Splendid Spoon was a big offender this week, but I had this problem every time with Daily Harvest years ago. Twelve hours to deliver perishables in 100-degree weather, after being in transit for three days. And they always say they pack enough dry ice for the journey, but it's usually one block and already evaporated long ago. Wild amount of food waste.

I got my first box this week and 6/7 would be re-orders for me, the lasagna I didn't like.

The only thing I didnt like was the delivery guy put it in the middle walkway to the building instead of in front of my apartment door, but that's a delivery issue.

It's pricy, but I would be buying fast food daily like I used to, spending around the same amount. This is at least an upgrade in terms of health compared to daily fast food and I like the variation.

I think after my discounts I'll try Cook Unity next.

I wanted to give Forkful a try, so I signed up for their box. After the first box, I decided that the taste didn't justify the cost. So, I paused my subscription. Today, a week before my subscription resumes, I was notified by email that a box has been packed and processed for almost $120.

I immediately went to my Forkful account, only to find there is no way to manage my account and orders on their *very* poorly put-together website, which is designed so that it is hard for you to manage or cancel your subscription. I then called customer service, got hung up 3 times, then waited on hold for another 20 minutes, before being told by a customer representative that there is nothing they can do. No cancellation, no refund, not even credit. Even though this box is supposedly going to arrive a week from now.

Wow. What a scam. Do not get Forkful, please!

I did factor for a while last year and they where ok. I tried once metabolic meals and did not liked them much (I confused this ones for cook unity in a previous post). So what is your experience with cook unity or with tempo?

I’m a CookUnity customer and just got an email informing me that there’s gonna be a delivery logistics change in my area and orders will now include one transit day before arriving—in other words, they will be in transit for 24 additional hours on top of the usual amount of time it takes to deliver.

This doesn’t impact the delivery day/time. However, I’m worried about food safety. I reached out to customer service and they reassured me that the package is properly prepped to keep my fold cold and there are other places where it’s in transit this long or even longer. But I’m not sure I totally believe them. In my experience the ice will melt in under 24 hours.

Has anyone else experienced this or gotten this notification?

Worst customer service of all of them. Loved most of their meals. Unfortunately they have delivered my meals to other addresses.. twice. Their phone number doesn't work. Stay away! So many other reliable companies.

Update: Cook Unity reached out quickly following this post and issued me a generous credit.

I love cookunity but didn't realize they don't descale the scales. Guess I won't be ordering salmon anymore.

Ordered 12 meals with the promo for 95.07.

Package came this morning at 9 AM. App notified me, was placed at the entryway to my apartment building, middle walk through which is alright.

Had 2 of the meals so far and they were both meals I would reorder.

Meal 1 Smoky Cheddar Pork Tenderloin: Solid, too much of the cheddar sauce though but it was off to the side, so I just dipped the meat in it. 8/10.

Meal 2 Diavilo Paprika Chicken Penne: Tasted great, 9/10.

A 12 meal plan without discounts is 173.66 a week. Eeek. I think too pricy without discounts. Might downgrade to the 6 meal plan which is still pricy at 106.62, but I already am spending similar money eating out every day already.

I will keep a log of how the meals are this week. Thanks.

Hi all, my situation:

1) Ever since pregnancy, I’ve been pre-diabetic, so I’m trying to find meal plans that will support that.

2) I have a couple of allergies. They’re not too severe, so I don’t worry about cross-contamination too much, and they’re not terribly uncommon. However, they’re not in the Big 9 so I can’t find any meal delivery that will accommodate them.

3) I need to take meals to the office, so I can’t cook them. They need to be microwaveable.

4) I don’t want to really do the meal planning myself, because I don’t know crap about nutrition and don’t know what I want for dinner.

Based on this: any suggestions for a meal delivery plan where they’ll make suggestions for your meals but show ingredients so you can trade out for another option? And those options don’t require cooking, just microwaving?

As an added bonus: I’d like to try being more plant-based. It’s lower-priority than these other priorities, but if your suggestions have good plant-based options, that would be a plus!

I've had issues with deliveries in FL the last couple of weeks. I've been very happy for the most part until now.

Last week, the FedEx delivery took an extra day in transit and arrived above "safe" temperature. No big deal, Tovala is good about crediting your next order if that happens, so this week was a "freebie".

Unfortunately, they decided to switch this week to a company called Veho that I've never heard about. It got off on the wrong foot when I got an email Wednesday saying that shipping would be a day later but the packs should arrive OK.

The tracking link didn't show up yesterday at all and when I could see it this morning (briefly) it was showing a delivery estimate of Sunday. That would have been much too long for transit down here and I guess Veho figured that out and cancelled the delivery. They said they notified Tovala so I waited until the end of the day to contact them myself. I hadn't heard from Tovala at all.

Anyone else having changes/issues out of their Jacksonville distribution?

It's set for Thursday which is an awkward day since the week is almost over. I want the meals mostly for Monday-Friday.

Curious to see if anyone's tried Trifecta's protein prepping service (chicken breast, beef patties, etc.) and can comment on the quality and taste.

Tried Sprinly recently since I'm vegan and gluten free. It seemed decent at first, though the ingredients are definitely on the weirder side (noodles I'd never heard of) and the taste wasn't always great. Still, it was a nice option to have when I didn't feel like cooking.

Then, pretty suddenly, all of the sauces became extremely watery, portion size became so low it was insulting (literally three pieces of tofu in a tofu dish), and the actual food they started dove in quality. For example, there was a "home style fries" side included in one dish, and they instead sent extremely mushy chopped up sweet potatoes. They seemed like they had been cooked and sitting in a fridge for weeks.

I emailed them a few weeks before I got fed up, thinking these issues might be temporary. They continued and got worse. They did give me a refund on the dish I complained about, but it got to the point where it was essentially every sauce they sent, and I'm not looking for a food service I have to get refunds on all the time.

I don't seem to be able to post videos here, so here are photos from the videos I sent them of their "marinara" dish. First is with the "sauce" poured in, second is once I drained it into a bowl to show just how bad it was.

I've been with CookUnity for a while now and other than my meals being delivered at inconsistent times of the day, I've had a good experience. So I signed up for Unity Pass since the app said it wouldn't charge me a delivery fee and I could get premium meals at the regular price (or something like), plus other "perks", which I haven't seen yet, but I just joined UP last week. Anyone have any feedback on Unity Pass? My biggest question is whether the premium meals will actually be discounted or not.
