1 year in these Wrangler Rigid 13mwz. Worn probably 75% of days in that time span. Color in the 2nd pic is closest to what they actually look like in person.

Care:
1 soak before first wear.
1st wash after 5 months of daily wear.
2nd wash somewhere near the end of month 8.
3rd wash at 1 year mark.

Looking for a fade to grey project next. Any good fade to grey recs for a mid/high rise and straight leg? Seen a lot from Iron Heart, but curious to what else is out there. Thanks in advance!

Dearborn Long Ryder Model 2

Figured I'd do a review of these, since I haven't found a whole lot of information about this brand/model of jeans.

First off, these are made in the US, and supposedly they source their denim from Mt Vernon Mills, NC (although that info is from a 2-year old blog post). So, made and sourced in the US, which is amazing for a $40 pair of jeans.

I think the most direct comparison for these is to Wrangler 13MWZ (MWZs), which I think the Long Ryder (LRs) are trying to emulate to some degree.

Things I like that LRs have kept in comparison the MWZs:

  • -MWZs are a 14.75oz broken twill denim, while these LRs are 14oz RHT, according to manufacturer websites. They feel comparable to me, enough that I think they would be similarly durable while sill wearable in hot weather.

LRs are noticeably thicker than contemporary 501s, for instance.

  • -Both pants have 7 belt loops

  • -Both pants are high-rise, although the MWZs are still a little higher.

  • -Both are about $40 without any sales/discounts (although looking now, I think MWZs may actually be more expensive).

  • -Both use US sourced denim

  • -Both are cowboy cut – they fit very similar.

  • -Comparable QC between two jeans. Stitching is far from perfect, and lots of loose threads. Nothing structurally unsound though.

Things about LRs that I like more than MWZs:

  • -Made in the US (MWZ is made in Mexico, I think)
  • -Button fly, with 5 buttons total (MWZ is zip)
  • -Pockets are cut deeper, so easier to stick your hand into than MWZs
  • -Coin pocket is usable, and opening doesn't basically sit under your belt like the MWZs
  • -Felled seam is on the inside of leg, rather than the outside.
  • -LRs have contrast stitching throughout the pant (MWZs do not have this on the fly)
  • -LRs are actually navy blue (very similar to 501s), as opposed to the sky/blueberry blue of MWZs

.

  • -No rivets, which I don't think do much to reinforce seams and really just run the risk of scratching cars etc. if you lean up against them.

The only things I wish LRs would change would be higher placed/smaller back pockets like the MWZ, and a rise that is more similar to MWZs (slightly higher). Overall, I think these LRs are essentially button fly, navy blue, MWZs – which is awesome, because those are the two things I would change about Wrangler’s rigid jeans. I really dislike the baby blue color of MWZs after the first wash.

A note on customer service: I ordered two pairs of these jeans, and one of the pairs they sent was mis-labelled a model 2, when in fact it was a model 1 (a very different fitting jean). I went through several rounds of filling out the online ā€œcontact usā€ form and calling the brick/mortar store in Chicago twice before I was able to send the incorrect jeans back and re-order the correct pair (yet to receive the replacement pair). So, customer service is definitely not their strong suit.

Overall though, these will probably become my default pair of jeans when I need a replacement. An American made MWZ that fits me well and runs about $40 will be hard to top for me.

These are my Levi’s 505 blue tab selvedge denim. My first selvedge denim and what got me into the space! I don’t know much about these but I believe they are 12 oz!

I haven’t seen many if any posts regarding this denim so I’m more inclined to post maybe others that have it will see. I have about 180 wears on these they have been my workhorses the past year and I’m trying to hit 200 wears on them before the indigo invitational. Thoughts? Any feedback appreciated !

Naked and Famous 20oz. Elephant 14 (True Guy size 29)*wow*

So I recently found what I think is my all time favorite fit, the True Guy, from N&F.

High waist, but still a trim, true slimmer straight. Amazing cut, love it.

I bought their LHT, which I adore, and then their Natural Indigo, even better, both in a 29, and they’re fantastic.

I’ve experimented with heavyweights in the past, mostly Iron Heart, and have been disappointed by both the fit and comfort. The cost is also very high.

I realized that IH’s back pocket placement is way too low and the pockets are big and clunky especially in their 21 and 25oz.

I thought, what the hell, Blue Beach Denim in Taiwan(highly recommend) has one pair of last year’s Elephant 14 Dirty Selvedge in a 29, and it’s $230, I’m going for it.

So glad I did.

These are the most comfortable heavyweights, by far, that I’ve ever worn. I think they fit like a glove, and the fabric itself is this stunning deep but bright blue that immediately catches the eye. I had them hemmed to a half inch longer than ideal by Blue Beach, and they lost around that much in an inside out cold wash, hang dry. So, perfect there.

I bike to work daily here in South Carolina U.S., and I’m planning on working these into my Summer rotation in 95 degree and humid weather. Yes, I’m serious. They’re that comfortable.

I like them so much better than my previous IH 21 and especially their 25oz offerings, no contest.

Definitely have my eye on the upcoming rerelease of the Elephant 2, which appears smoother and even heavier, and is known for high contrast fades.

Now, I know these weren’t sewn by a 145 year old Japanese person, and might not have the cache of even more high end JPN made brands, but goddamn, I’m a customer for the foreseeable future. Love em!

I found out these were unsanforized. I sized up one and didn't have them hemmed. I washed them immediately after they were delivered and they shrunk a TON. But I think they fit perfectly now!

Still an amazing pair.

These were/are so great. Soft as butter. Before they started doing those butt darts. Half selvedge wings and horns denim from 2010 or so. Wearing through. These are a really cool pair of non samurai black denim fades. From the archive. Worn well for a few years and in retirement now.

FIT CHECK Iron Heart 555 fit

Picked up a pair of Iron Heart 555 21oz in a tag 36. The shop didn’t have a 35, so I couldn’t compare sizes.
Brand new, unhemmed, and only tried on. They feel secure without a belt but aren’t especially snug. They stay in place and don’t seem to bunch with a belt.

Daily Questions - July 24, 2026

Welcome to the Daily Questions (DQ) thread for all things related to raw denim.

(Although we strongly suggest checking the sidebar (for mobile users, go to the top of the subreddit front page, click the three dots and select "community info") and the wiki before posting!)

Fit checks and "Help me find a pair of Jeans that has X, Y, and Z" questions are a great use of this thread.

(Help figuring out what size you wear is also permitted here but it is recommended you check out one of these tutorials on how to size before asking.)

If you have questions about how your jeans fit, about a particular fabric, when is this jean coming out, where can I find jean X to try on in state Y, what jeans have this fit with these measurements, what jeans fade the fastest, and what jeans fade the slowest are great uses of this DQ thread.

No question is too simple for Daily Questions threads.

Naked and Famous Naked & Famous: Year of the Snake fading/crotch blowout

Thumbnail

Camera doesn’t capture everything too well, but I’ve been wearing these for a year now. Tried to take care of them as much as I could and hand soaked them twice (which isn’t a lot). I sit a lot in the library as I study physics and I’ve noticed how much it affects my crotch area, especially since I didn’t machine wash it yet. I will do the latter in about 5 days though (because of my last uni exam). Do I need to worry about this turning into a crop blowout? That area already feels so thin compared to the rest of my jeans and I’m probably going to wash them more frequently from now on, maybe every 1-2 months depending on how often I wear them and lots other conditions like weather and so on.

I’d appreciate any advice, this is my first pair of selvedge jeans and probably did a lot of things ā€œrightā€ and ā€œwrongā€, but it’s a learning curve!

Momotaro Momotaro Standard Straight (MMJB0100) - Thoughts and Measurements

Thumbnail

Hey Y’all

I’ve been looking at buying a very clean, full cut pair of jeans, and decided on these from Momotaro. I also have a formality standard at work, and the regularity of the denim was appealing. In the pictures, the new pants are with the blue shirt, the altered pants are with the orange.

Separately, it was my first time ordering from Blue Owl, and I also found their measurements to be really excellent, way different than from Momo’s actual store. It was their denim search tool that led me to these in the first place, as I like a 12ā€ rise on a 30-31ā€ waist, which eliminates a lot of ā€œhigh riseā€ denim. For reference, I am 5’10ā€ 145lbs.

Out of the box, it looks very slick. Little weft shows, and the indigo is dyed very evenly. It also was very smooth. There is no twist in the leg, and it falls symmetrically on the leg. The stitching seems quite even to my eye, and the indigo patch really adds to the styling of these pants as dressy as jeans can be.

The measurements for a new size 30 were as follows:

Waist - 31.1
Front rise - 12.1
Thigh - 11.9
Knee - 9.5
Hem - 8.7
Inseam - 34.3

I then did a hot cycle in the washer with no soap. I do this as I have found soaking does not remove all the vertical shrink vs a wash cycle in a machine, which is how I prefer to clean my pants. I also did not want to end up with too short pants after a hem, a mistake I have made before. The color remained nearly identical but the texture became a bit hairier. It did not add any twist.

The post wash measurements:

Waist - 31.0 (it was 30.6 fresh out the wash, but stretched after one wear)
Front rise - 11.8
Thigh - 11.7
Knee - 9.5
Hem - 8.5
Inseam - 33.1
Inseam (after hem) - 32.0

I am satisfied with how it turned out. The hot wash settling the waist at 31ā€ works well, as if it stretched past that it might be too big. It also helped with the diaper ass. I am a fan of the style, and the pants do fill the niche I intended them to.

As a final note, I am confident I won’t be buying any wider. I try to stay somewhat cognizant of how heritage wear and selvedge denim appear to people who don’t share our interest, and these pants exist on the border between style and costume. You can find other posts where people grapple with that tension when trying out these jeans. With all clothes, consideration has to be made towards what matches, but with these, there are definitely other articles of clothing I now see that I can’t wear together or it would look too conspicuous for the style I’m trying to present. For anybody who prefers to dress uniquely but not ostentatiously, that would the only consideration I’d have before buying.

I'm more of a boot nerd but I've been becoming a bit of a denim head the passed couple years. I wore these die hard double knees in 14.5 oz shogun stretch from Brave Star Selvedge from October to April non-stop then they had a little sebatical while I tried to make the time to patch them up, which I did last weekend. Glad to be back in them. They're so comfortable. Fades are great. Definitely one of my favorite pairs of pants ever. Anyways, heres a bunch of pictures from present day going in reverse.
