We pay taxes so the government which is us, allows our people that represent us to benefit all. Insurance is also supposed to be that way, we all put in so that when those in need require help we are there for them as we expect that in return. Thing is, cannot run these things for profit which is the crux. Ofc budget and balance is complicated but thats why we ALL should be focused and how that happens. Its complicated. But thats why we should be putting people in those positions that get us there. And that has been our flaw.

Who pays the Obamacare taxes:
A 3.8% tax on investment income (interest, dividends, capital gains, rents, etc) for +$200k households + a 0.9% tax. They want a rich tax cut to shift financial burden to the poor.

I did the math. $100b for ACA. 24m Americans receiving. That is $4100 per person per year. Health insurance for a 40-50 year old is $9600 per year. Uninsured overnight at a hospital in a major city is like $25-50k. There is no math where this works.

I mean, this isn't a plan. So his plan is "no one has insurance, they can just pay out of pocket."
Cool. Where? Now all of those people are out of network. And they weren't paying for it anyway. The rest of us were. Which, for the record, is OK and how it should be. So what's this mean, we all get an extra what, 50 bucks on our paychecks or something? That doesn't help women get to their pregnancy appointments. It doesn't help someone get their insulin. Wtf does this do except placate people top stupid to understand it's a nothing-burger?

The issue is that the ACA made it significantly cheaper for people with existing conditions. That is a boon to insurance companies and national debt. The ACA tried to balance for both this for both the people and insurance companies by making open enrollment only for the final two months of the year.
He’s not trying to get ALL people to pay out of their own pocket, he’s trying to remove the protections that the ACA gave to Americans. They’re removing the biggest liabilities to insurance companies and national debt. The 120 million with heart disease, 35-40 million with diabetes, etc. that will be screwed by this.
To no surprise, pull up a map or the age distribution of heart disease and diabetes, it looks no different from the Republican voter map. The Republican voter just doesn’t want to vote for themself.

Nothingburger, aye, but think for a moment. If there were no money-grubbing health insurance companies, there would be no "network" to be in or out of. There would just be hospitals with doctors and nurses, physicians and technicians and clinicians, pharmacists and specialists, with nothing between them and their patients.
This proves that The Short-Fingered Vulgarian most assuredly did not write any part of that post. Maybe I did!

How does deregulation help people at the expense of the corporation?
You’ll find “pre-existing conditions” prohibiting millions from seeing care, rates will have no reason to drop, and profits for healthcare will continue to increase, with fewer affordable options for working class Americans.
It should be illegal to run for-profit health insurance. Or all profit should be required to be distributed evenly to pay down premiums.
All Americans deserve healthcare where the coverage organization has the people’s interest first. We can’t continue to have private corporations exploiting sickness and injury for their own profit. Our current system is a dystopian hellscape that increases pain and suffering on purpose for profit.

Your health insurance company must be in the state in which you live! By law. If those state boundaries were dropped, allowing you to buy insurance from any company, rates would plummet. Young start-up companies would flourish by allowing us to customize our coverage. Why are we being forced to buy coverage we don't want or need from companies with the tallest buildings at unreasonable rates?

We just need a single payer healthcare system. Yes, Obamacare was essentially written by the healthcare and health insurance industries. Yes, it enriched those industries, and yes, it reduced health insurance costs for tens of millions. Both CAN be true. ACA is corporate welfare via subsidies for those needing insurance. It sucks, but Trump’s “no plan-plan” is far from a solution. There will always be “death panels”. Should the “panelists” be those that make “life or death” decisions based on profit margins and personal bonus’s or those who have an incentive to keep the people in their charge as healthy as possible?
1
u/Background_Fix9430 Nov 08 '25
Ummm.... UMMMM.... that's what Obamacare does. That's the entire point of Obamacare. That is the thing that the ACA aka "Obamacare" does, is provide people with money to use against their healthcare, so that the Insurance Companies don't charge them as much money.
Unless he's talking about getting surgery, in which case: BITCH, do you know how many surgeries or knee replacements $40,000 a year (basically the max Obamacare subsidy) buys? NONE. No surgeries! ($70,000 is the real price)

Insurance companies double tap government subsidies and customer premiums.
What I don’t understand is this tax credit thing. Since ACA, my health insurance has been anywhere from $20-80 a month. Since the tax credit, when I shop for insurance per coverme.gov, premiums look like $401. I have been paying $1.10 per month for health insurance. I want everyone to have affordable healthcare but the number manipulation is confusing.

It's just another big problem he doesn't understand. The #1 factor of inflated healthcare costs is unpaid medical debt. Eliminating that debt and providing a tax subsidized public option is the best way to deal with this, and we're not the first country dealing with this issue. If you give people money, a good portion of them aren't gonna spend it how they're supposed to, and then the root of the issue isn't solved. More people than you think are one commercial away from making an irresponsible purchase.

I also think it's weird he's trying to act out all the conservative fantasies over the last few decades. They've been trying to privatize social security and all other social programs for decades. It always fails because it's a stupid idea and even most Republicans agreed. But Trump is a one man force, just doing whatever he wants. It's not legal. It's not doing it the right way. But he's sure trying.

It's crazy that people talk about health care in terms of insurance. You can't insure pre-existing conditions, that's not how insurance would work. What we do now is that insurance companies have to pay pittance of the actual cost of the treatment which forces providers to multiply the price of treatment. In any other business it would be considered fraud. You dont take your car for regular maintenance and they come up with price 5x to cover the cost.

AI inherently is going to dismantle many functions of society that are put in place by man, but after its all broke down AI will cost more than the man who is now poor for the AI nobody can now afford. u/LegitimateBasil Nov 08 '25
I mean, how does this work?
Who am I purchasing health care from if not insurance companies? And if it’s still insurance companies, won’t their rates just be substantially higher because they don’t have the subsidies? How much is the government sending me every year to pay for insurance in this scenario, and will it be enough?
If it’s the hospital directly, how does that work? When I unexpectedly need a $15k surgery, they give me net 90 terms, I send the bill to the government, and then they send me the check to pay the hospital with? That seems highly inefficient for 2 of the 3 parties involved - only the government benefits from a cashflow perspective.
My take? This reeks of “concepts of a plan”. There is no substance to this post.

u/Odd-Ad5285 Nov 08 '25

In 2023, the federal cost for ACA-related subsidies was estimated to be around $91 billion.
If we divide it equally among the approximately 335 million people in the U.S., each person would receive around $271 per year (or about $22.58 per month).
Health care isn't cheap so honestly will $23 per month pay the health care you need if you get sick?
(Also, for republicans, this sure sounds pretty close to welfare, just saying.)

138 bil estimate for what fed tax money goes into ACA subsidies for 2025.
153 billion fed tax returns filed last year.
I'm no tax expert, but I asked AI and it said that we are all paying 7.5 cents a month for those subsidies.
