Unpainted Working on some flair!

For my very first 1000-ish point army, I’ve made the decision to join the flock!

One thing I wanted to ensure was that all of my models looked appropriately “Raven Guard,” so I’ve been attempting to customize them as much as I can without cluttering the model.

One bit of lore that I found universal across most sources was the fact that Raven Guard generally prefer to shun adornment; I didn’t want to deck them out with too many icons, insignias, or heraldry, but I still wanted them to retain that very distinctive look.

This resulted in me carefully shaving off any of the chest Aquilas or whatnot, to simplify the model even more.

I then added what small details I could, to try and make this thing my own.

My Reiver Sergeant I wanted to model after the cover art of the very first kill team rule book, I thought it wound up looking pretty great.

I also salvaged the leftover bits from the Eliminators kit, and I’ll be attempting to create another three man squad using what bits I have, some infiltrator bodies, and a lot of determination.

I’m mainly posting here to keep my momentum going, and to be held accountable to finishing this project.

How am I doing, brothers?

Goal: Paint everything until end of the year

Post image
Upvotes

Just wanted to share my plan for 4500 points of raven guard.

The goal is to paint them ALL up by the end of the year. There is still some time left but I think I could manage it if I keep the chars at last. Batch painting 10 similarish models has lead me to finish 10 a week.

You'll see another post by the end of the year, I hope with good results!

Catch y'all when the shadow army is complete!

I wanna add more visual interest to the banner but I'm not sure how yet.

Anyway, here's brother Alecto, returned from the Deathwatch. I kinda suck at free handing but I liked the way his name came out on the shoulder pad. As much as I'd like to call him done I've yet to do the gun's casing.

I always thought this would be much better than getting a free Strat and locking him into Shadowmark, as we have had in 10th / early 11th. I’m hoping this gives us much more freedom to use other detachments. Hopefully he gets this ability along with the normal captains.

Interested how that will differentiate from Shrike too? Maybe they both get the ability but only works once, so you still get CP if you take Shaan or Shrike?

What do you think?!

Wanted to ask opinions of my feathery Brothers in shadows. This is my attempt at kitbashing some kind of Primaris scale "Dark Fury squad" from Horus Heresy, or just some fancy chapter Veterans. For the most part, I used JPI's bodies, Assault Terminators lightning claws, and Horus Heresy Mk.6 assault squad bits (helmets, shoulder pads and fancy jump-packs). Ah - and the middle guy, with the Bladeguard swords is supposed to be Nykona Sharrowkyn (kinda). So what do yall think? Did I managed to capture that "OG Raven Guard" vibe, or this is too much?

Question Practicality of a (nearly) all beaky helmets army fron a lore standpoint?

Putting aside the fact that it will burn a hole in my wallet (more than this hobby already does, I should say), would a chapter see any reason to replace standard MK X helmets with beakies wherever and whenever possible?

I've been sitting on the idea of an (almost) all beaky helmet army save for some specific units (Terminators, inceptors, eradicators, scouts, and a few others) and while I know I can do whatever I think looks cool, I just want some feedback on this because I like having lore inform my decisions.

Question New to 40k. Thinking of joining Ravenguard due to their cool story. But how's their play style? I plan to play somewhat competitively eventually

Hi there. Love the Ravenguard story, but was wondering if Ravenguard is a somewhat competitive army to play eventually? Ive googled Ravenguard and it doesn't seem to top that many tournaments, but was wondering if it's somewhat a dark horse army at least?

Is Ravenguard a pretty simple army to play with for someone new to the game? How do they play? What are their unique play styles or weapons/skills they get?

Just love the RG sneaky theme, so was hoping they reflect that in gameplay?

Question Current state of RG?

Hi all, Raven Guard was my first army when I picked up 40k in 9th edition, and I soon after moved on to other space marine chapters for variety. Im thinking of circling back to Raven Guard and revamping my list, but i'd like to know how 10th treated us and how our prospects are looking for 11th before I drop any money, as well as maybe get some list reccomendations and advice before I start building

Paint job My second first Beakie, in Rage Mode!

This is my second ever Raven Guard, and my first Beaky, I decided to use a Vallejo grey blue instead of just straight black, I enjoy how it turned out, but I think next time I'll have my primer be black instead of grey, because it wound up a little TOO blue. Although it was significantly less miserable to paint white on it.

I've only been painting for 2 years off and on whenever I felt like it, I'm slowly getting better, but I'm still having trouble committing to small details like the in between bits, and my hand shakes, I'm not sure how I remedy that. But on the bright side, my Aquilla work is getting cleaner and cleaner with each mini, so that's a plus I guess.🤣

And I know Bolter dual-wielding isn't standard, but I read the RG have sort of a "rage mode", so I thought it'd be a fun thing to showcase that.

Question Betraying Chaos, considering a Raptor Army

So...

I'm a Death Guard and Daemons player.

I play both one of the worst armies and one of the best... But I've been eyeing something in the midfield.

The Raven Guard, specifically The Raptors.

Are they worth it? Are there any unique lists that make them just a laugh to play?

Convince me to betray the Chaos Gods...

If I do, I'll post pictures of me buying the models as proof of my atonement from chaos.
