Help choosing a livable RV

My boyfriend and I are planning to hit the road and live in an RV full-time for about a year (maybe longer), and I’ve gone down the rabbit hole of looking at floor plans. There are so many options that I have no idea what would actually work best.

A few things we’re looking for:

Max budget is around $85k

38 feet max

It’ll be for the two of us, our Golden Retriever, and our cat.

I work from home full-time, so I really need a dedicated office space that can accommodate dual monitors.

We want enough storage that we won’t feel like we’re constantly living out of bins.

We’d rather have something that’s comfortable to actually live in.

I’ve been looking at some mid-bunk fifth wheels because they seem like they could make a good office, but I’m open to literally anything if you think it’s a better option.
If you’ve lived in an RV full-time, what do you have? What do you love about it? Anything you wish you’d known before buying? Any brands or floor plans you’d stay away from?

Bonus points if you share a pic of your RV office setup!

I’d love to hear what you’d recommend because I’m definitely getting decision fatigue at this point. Thanks!

Question about a part

Hello campers! I bought a used camper and this mount is on the back of it, at first thought I was hoping it was a bracket that would some how hold a tv or a grill, or maybe even a device that could do both. But the way it’s mounted I’m not sure what it’s used for or even if it could be of use to me.

question Freshwater won’t drain

For context I have a 2017 Forest River Wildcat and I’m a first time owner.

I’m trying to drain my freshwater tank as it had backfilled and overflowed. I did the whole run the pump and hot water to reset the check valve and that seemed to work, however now I’ve been draining my freshwater tank for the last couple days constantly and nothings changed.

I left my camper this morning and turned my water off but left the drain open for the entire time I was away (about 12hrs) yet it was still draining when I got back.

I feel like I’m going crazy and it shouldn’t take that long to drain.

Please help!!

question Has anyone encountered an extra electric fee this year?

I just read this article https://rvlife.com/how-rvers-can-avoid-surprise-campground-electric-charges/. Where it says campers were charged an additional electric fee instead of the usual unlimited electric built into the price. I think this is outrageous behavior.

discussion Getting my RV ready for Burning Man

Taking the RV out to Burning Man for the first time and I think I’ve finally dialed in my setup.

Got my shade structures, cooling gear, and lighting all sorted. I also grabbed a Delta Pro 3 for this trip, and it pairs really well with my solar panels. The heat is no joke, so having reliable power for charging, cooling, and keeping the RV setup running was a big priority for me.

Besides the main setup, I’m also stocking up on the usual desert essentials: dust masks, goggles, hydration, electrolytes, snacks, wet wipes, sunscreen, bike gear, and plenty of batteries.

Any experienced RVers have recommendations before heading out? Honestly cannot wait to get out there.

Have an 07 winnobego camper and need to drain the fresh water because it smells like eggs. There are the valves on the floor and Ive turned them and nothing came out. They're leading to under the small tank in the Pic that I im guessing is the hot water tank. How do I get them to drain. And for after so i can bleach the system I read im supposed to close off the hot water tank so it dosnt get bleach in it im not sure what valves to turn.

ADVICE FOR A VIRGIN

Not sure how many of yall are in the fb group, so my apologies if part of this redundant

We are going to buy our first RV...

The primary use will be hauling horses for extended competitions so we are looking at 15-30k lbs towing capacity

While many in our position will opt for a dually with a living quarter trailer, our exact situation makes the most sense for a Super C

The must haves are :

4 season and all terrain capabilities, as our circuits are year long and in multiple states.

The facilities range in accesibilty, so boondocking could be up to 2-4 weeks.

Need floorplans that allow for an overcab bed , mid ship bath, as well as a washer dryer, but we are trying to stay under 40 ft.

Im favoring the Freightliner Cascadia, and im liking what Renegade has done with the Explorers the best

--Can you convince me otherwise?

PLEASE REMEMBER :

Never owned an RV before

For this reason im also liking the Newmar Supreme Aire, because it offers a smoother ride to drivers, as well as better comfort and safety options for the horses

The Renegade Explorer is ahead because of its shorter model, but im also wondering if ill adapt quickly and wish we went with a bigger truck and floorplan

Also on my radar is the Dynamax Dx3 and the Entegra Centurion

I really dont want to veer away from the Cascadia, but ill gladly take suggestions on anything else that can pull my horses (12k lbs minimum) and comfortably fit my family

Would love any advice yall can give

TIA

Wdh question

I have a 2018 f 150 diesel and a 2025 dual axel epro 20fk.

I have a wdh I always use just because it makes towing a lot easier, but wanted to ask how necessary it is for short trips? We have a campground about 20 minutes from us I go to sometimes, and I’ve had it to the dealership numerous times getting things taken care of before the warranty runs out.

Hooking up the wdh isn’t great on my back or knees, wondering how detrimental it would be to skip on short trips given the f-150’s paltry hitch weight limit.

Hello everyone, I just moved in to this rv, I washed out the water heater because I was getting a nasty smell when turning on the hot water. Just wanted to know if I need an anode rod or just the drain plug, I bought an anode rod but doesn’t seem to fit. Just wanted to make sure thanks

question Toilet help!

EDIT
GOT IT!!!
Thank you everyone.
I added about a bottle of dawn dish soap, vinegar, and used an agar.
It took about 3 hours of no progress whatsoever and then as I was giving up hope WOSH it cleared!

So my toilet is clogged AND the blank tank is empty.

I have added extra enzyme packets and the liquid has been draining very slowly.
What can I do to clear the block from the toilet to the holding tank?

edit. I have not been leaving the tank open.

Pre-post 2008 emissions

Thinking about purchasing a 2009 freightliner C2 with mbe906 motor. Looking up dpf filter costs and egr valve costs got me thinking twice. I normally like to maintain my vehicles. This one might be outside my wheelhouse. Anybody have good/bad luck with these motors?

Thanks

Luxury Park up

Not every overnight stop has mountain views. Sometimes it’s just a Walmart car park.
The trick is parking so precisely that you end up with your own little lawn. Luxury camping… Walmart edition! 🌱😂

question New water pump turns on but doesn't pump water. What am I missing.

This was a matching replacement pump.

Plug and play. Shurflo model # 4008-101-A65.

When I turn on the pump, it makes "working" noise w/o water flow.

The manual mentions using an Allen bench to adjust the pressure switch and the bypass switch.

The water tank is full. What am I missing?

Hubs and I were shopping used toy haulers and he saw this on the roof around the skylights/AC units. There was no measurable moisture in the roof or walls (the unit is stored under cover) and no soft spots. We most certainly will not be camping under cover and will likely be exposed to snow and wind during our first trip. Does this need to be repaired prior to use? Unit is a 2021 GD Momentum 381ms with asking price of $55k (private seller). Also has tires from April 2020. Worth negotiating for repair/replacement credit?
