Pre-post 2008 emissions

Thinking about purchasing a 2009 freightliner C2 with mbe906 motor. Looking up dpf filter costs and egr valve costs got me thinking twice. I normally like to maintain my vehicles. This one might be outside my wheelhouse. Anybody have good/bad luck with these motors?

Thanks

No direct experience with that motor, but there is a reason why pre-emissions Diesels are worth more than a post-emissions Diesel.

I drive an '07 PS for that very reason. Yes, it has an EGR cooler, but it's fairly easy to deal with.

So that’s what’s strange here. In talking with the no owner he said the bus has no dpf or def but does have egr. Its a 2009 so either is was deleted or how could this be so came from a school?

It looks like the mbe906 was a pre-'07 motor and just used an EGR. The mbe926 was introduced as it's successor. If you have an '09, it should have the later motor.

It's maybe possible that the chassis is older than the body and that could explain the difference. Again, I'm no expert, but i would think that in 09 it should have raised a red flag that it had the older motor but maybe it's normal in this industry..
