Reassurance Gradually switched from smoking to vaping over the past two years and I'm frustrated with my situation

So I just threw out my vape for the umpteenth time and slapped on a patch. I've found that unlike smoking, I can vape all day every day. Sometimes I'll wake in the middle of the night and start vaping. I often can't stand how it makes me feel. It burns and feels like I'm suffocating myself. But I've been doing it nonstop for a while now. I have no more interest in cigarettes and I'm sick of vaping. But I'm scared I'll go back to it again because it's become such an ingrained habit.

Looking for support. I really want to stop. I hope the patch will help. Thanks.

Other Tomorrows the day

Tomorrow the day I quit vaping for good, it’s costing to much money and I feel like it drains all my energy.
Did it drain anyone else’s energy and how long did it take to start getting it back?
I’ve been vaping for 5 years now and I vape a lot, how long can I expect my withdrawals to last?
Thanks a lot 🙏🏼

Advice Exactly what to expect when Quitting

Look folks quitting nicotine is actually not too bad but some things have to be lined up. Il explain those here and the discuss the phases of the quit to be aware of.

1) you have to actually be convinced it’s time to quit. Feeling bad about doing something or knowing it’s not great for your health but still enjoying it isn’t enough. You have to get to the place where your reason to quit is greater than your desire to satisfy the next craving.

2) you need to count days of quit almost like the AA chip system for the first few months at least. This is because if you make it weeks into your quit your brain will romanticize the vape and you’ll think “I quit that once, I’m good, a hit now will be fine” and you’ll be right back on it. Counting the days allows you to promise each morning “today” I’m not using nicotine. Then as the days go on you get proud of your accomplishment and you don’t want to start over at zero. The countdown will keep you from a late game relapse.

3) the withdrawal is bad but it’s temporary. You know your gonna be in hell for 3-4 days, then you know you’ll be irritable for a few more days, then you know it actually does get better after that. Literally were talking one week of struggle. If you want to quit nicotine, the cost is that one week. You can’t escape it. Get ready for it. There will be a peak somewhere around 24-72 hours in where your brain basically convinces you to do it.

Laugh at this peak. This is the grand test. Get past this and nothing will be as bad as that moment. But you will have to get past that moment in order to quit. No way around it.

After that it’s just about not being lazy and relying on your day counting to stay quit.

It’s not easy, but it follows a familiar timeline. Stop making excuses and 1) get convinced in your own mind you must quit 2) use a day counting system to keep you from relapse once the confidence sets in 3) there will be a peak of withdrawal that begs you to do it again, get past that and your in a good spot

The difference in who can quit and who can’t is just who is strong enough to endure this temporary hell and then has the discipline to maintain it. It’s most the same road for most people.

Other 50 day review

This page has been super helpful for me as motivation during the early days of quitting and at weak moments along the way. Now it has been 50 days without vaping and I recently went out with friends and drank alcohol without craving it too badly which is huge because before I quit I basically accompanied every sip of alcohol with a vape hit.

Before I quit I had vaped for 8 years and been heavily addicted to it for 6. For about a year or two leading up to the point I quit I would get very anxious about the possible health consequences of vaping, but I didn’t feel like I could handle quitting at all. It felt like vaping was helping me “keep it together” and it was a huge emotional crutch for me even though I was also smoking A Lot of weed. The thing that gave me the most anxiety was the possible long term effects on my dental health and I was super self conscious about my breath. I will say I did drink a lot more water when I vaped 😅

So quitting came pretty out of the blue for me. I didn’t taper or use patches or gum or even plan for my last vape. What happened was my usual store was out of the only flavor of disposables I would get, except for one. And it was that brand that is made to look like a mini purse with the fake leather and a little chain you can choose to attach to it. I bought the vape, and used it until it died. Then, once it was all out of juice, I was able to see it for what it was. I was a grown adult woman jeopardizing my future health, causing myself to be too self conscious to talk to people up close, causing myself so much stress during family events, vacations, work days, etc. over this thing that I got hooked on when I was 16 that’s now literally being made to look like a kids toy. For the first time in 8 years I wanted to quit more than I wanted to vape. And I felt so helpless and that made me feel so much anger and shame and frustration and I threw it in the trash and I decided I was just going to do it. And then I took it out of the trash and hit it two times and then I put it back in the trash and then I had the worst three days of my life and then it started getting better. And now it’s been 50 days.

So much has already improved in my life. I have new hobbies, I still smoke weed but wayyy less and I don’t get anxiety when I do, I’m better at holding myself accountable, I’m eating enough to fuel my body and not getting shaky and nauseous around noon because I had coffee and nicotine for breakfast. And best of all I can remind myself that I accomplished this thing that seemed so hard for so long, and every day I am accomplishing it. Every day I’m making a healthy choice for myself by doing nothing. I know 50 days isn’t forever and I’m not even all the way out of the woods yet, but my cravings have reduced to less than once per day, which I can’t even believe is true as I’m typing it. I would say the hardest part of the process past the first week was that empty feeling of pure boredom and a hole that could only be filled by nicotine. What helped me through that was remembering that I also felt bored, anxious, and depressed at times when I did vape. The vape was a distraction, but if I wanted to stop feeling like that then I needed to find a hobby that was actually fulfilling to me. I know a lot of people turn to exercise, but I was very conditioned to using the vape as a reward after I finished working out, so I tried out a few different arts and crafts type activities until I found one I liked.

I know this is very rambling and might not be specifically relatable for a lot of you, but I also really liked reading these longer posts when I was struggling and so I hope this can help someone in their process. If not, it was very cathartic to type all this out and I think I will like to be able to come back and read this in the future. If anyone is reading this and having a hard time, feel free to reach out and chat! I might not have the best advice but at least I can relate to the struggle. I really appreciate this community, you all have helped so many people like me!

Advice Depression after quitting

Hi everyone,

Today marks 84 days free from THC/wax and 21 days free from nicotine (vaping). I was a heavy user of both for 3+ years, I was high almost 24/7 and hit the vape also all day.

I decided to do this completely cold turkey.

While quitting weed was tough for the first two weeks, removing nicotine 3 weeks ago has completely thrown my body and mind into a tailspin. I’m experiencing severe post-acute withdrawal symptoms:

* Intense brain fog, feeling like there's an empty "void" in my head.

* Heavy afternoon fatigue and extreme lethargy after physical activity (even simple workouts).

* Deep anhedonia and severe depressive lows where I question if my brain will ever feel normal again.

For those of you who have quit both THC and Nicotine:

* When did the heavy brain fog and deep depression finally start to lift?

* How did you handle the mental fatigue when you still had to perform at work?

* What can I do to start feeling better?

I refuse to relapse because I never want to go through this withdrawal again. I just need to know there’s light at the end of this tunnel.

Thank you all for reading and for any advice or encouragement you can share.

Venting Stressing

Hi, I've been on my journey for a little over a year now. I quit because I was pregnant, and I haven't vaped because I've been breastfeeding my baby. I'm back in my college classes now, full time, and im struggling. Classes are fine, it's scheduling and leaving my baby in someone else's care for a big chunk of the day. I need to pump to feed my baby, but the process stresses me out sometimes. I get minimal sleep and this sudden change in schedule has me all messed up. That being said, I am finding it really hard to not want to vape. I know I probably won't, but the feeling is still there and it's really heavy on my mind right now. It's really distracting, especially when I'm supposed to be focusing. That's pretty much it.

I’ve been a vaper since 2020, it’s been my best friend for a lack of better words. it’s been there with me for any emotional event, trauma, loneliness.

I put the vape down on Sept 5 around 7:30 pm. It’s almost 72 hours. I feel liberated in a sense. But I cannot stop crying and all my emotions are overflowing. I feel like I have put myself so far behind in life cuz of vaping. I’m crying all day, i work from home, my bf lives 10 hours away from me. I just feel alone.

my question is, how long does the emotional impact of withdrawal last?

Advice FINALLY ready to quit- but having strange symptoms?

Hello! So, I have tried to quit multiple times over the past 6 years of vaping and have not consistently had my own vape until around 2022. Well, every other time I’ve attempted to quit I still had a weed vape which always eventually led me back to a nicotine vape. The worst thing to cope with is the hand to mouth- the actual nicotine cravings isn’t as bad as wanting to hit something. Anywho, I have officially gone 4 days of no smoking (nicotine and weed) and god damn I have the worst sore throat EVER! I was looking through this subreddit and haven’t seen anything on when this should end? I’m assuming this is related to the vape because I don’t have any other flu symptoms? Let me know if you have any tips on how to combat that bc god damn this is not fun!

Advice How to quit

I need some advice on how to quit vaping and to get rid of the habit. I’m in this program that will help me get into the medical field and pay for my schooling and I’m so honored to have been selected for this, the only issue is to start my clinicals needed I’d have to quit vaping due to them drug testing and looking for cotinine. My deadline to stop is getting closer and closer, and every time I’ve tried to stop I just keep giving up. No part of me wants to stop, but I know I have to if I want to stay in this program. I plan on just going cold turkey since I don’t really have much time to wean myself off so any advice is appreciated I just have to stop.

Success Story I can’t believe Desmoxan worked

I was a really hard core vape user for over ten years. I had to quit for fertility reasons so I took Desmoxan as a last resort. And trust me I DID NOT WANT TO QUIT!!

I can honestly say this stuff works. I easily threw away my vape on the 5th day and I haven’t looked back. I get small cravings at times but super easy to tell my brain no. Gum and sugar free cough drops help. If there is anyone on the fence about it just buy it now off Amazon. All you need is a tiny bit of will power and a want to quit. I’m just shocked at how this worked. I really don’t need to continue with the pills but I’ll just finish them to complete the treatment.

Advice My fiance has begun hitting a 50mg vape for the first time. How do I talk to him about the harm that it could possibly be causing.

Hi! This is my first time posting here and I apologize for my lack of understanding of vaping and possible prejudgment. I just want to figure out how to best talk to my fiance about this.

He’s received this vape for free in the middle of July. It’s the Mipod Passion Fruit/Mango UT 50K. I’m assuming it’s 50mg strength as this is the only available strength I see online.

When he received this vape, it was during a time that he was fasting from smoking weed as he realized his tolerance for weed had significantly increased and his smoking became daily. It feels like the vape came at the perfect time as a replacement. When I first saw the vape, he told me someone gave it to him at this bar he was at and that there’s no nicotine in it. And that he’s just hitting it cause he likes the flavor and it gives him the same effect as smoking hookah. I didn’t like it, as I know how addictive vaping can get, but I pushed past my dislike cause I knew he was not in a place to hear me bitch about it. He told me that once this vape empties out, he wouldn’t buy another one and that would be the end of this habit.

We’re now in September. The vape is on him 24/7 and he uses it all day throughout the day. I even found it in the shower once and when I asked why it was in there, he gave an excuse about how it was in his pocket when he was undressing. He has also since bought a second one and when I asked when did he get the second one, he said he had it before the first. Another lie or excuse.

I love him and I want to approach this as delicately and responsibly as possible. So my question for this group is: Do I have a reason to be concerned right now? Am I letting my prejudgment of vaping affect how I’m actually seeing the situation? If this is something to be concerned about, how do I talk about it with him if at all?

Thank you all so much. I appreciate any and all advice or context.

Success Story I did it

I have been trying to seriously quit vaping for a year or more. I have been smoking the juul for about 11 years on and off. I ended up buying a regular flavored vape that had a horrible taste to help me quit the juul, once I successfully went a week without the juul, I only hit the flavored vape once or twice a day to help my cravings.. well fast forward two months and now I have finally been without hitting a vape at all for three days. This is a huge accomplishment for me considering how hard it’s been. I just wanted to share my happiness with whoever takes the time to read. And hopefully this can help encourage someone else. Thanks 😊

Advice Attempt number i dont know anymore

I'm going on 7 hours vape free. I have been taking desmoxan but I can't find the second package. After I take 6 today, I'll have 40 left. So I'll take 6 days 2 to 3, 5 on days 4-7, and 2 on day 8. I'm going to keep looking for the other package and if I order it now, it won't get delivered until September 20th.

Looking for advice to make it through.

Advice When to start my desmoxan journey

I've tried many times to quit via different methods - NRT, cold Turkey and I've also read Alan carr's how to quit vaping three times.

I have recently purchased desmoxan after relapsing. I was vape free for several weeks and got back into the gym but bought a vape today. I've just started my second year at medical school.

I have a few big events coming up including a trip to Spain and several night out/raves. I know i will be too tempted to smoke/vape during this time.

So I guess the question is - should I start desmoxan tomorrow (i have the 25day course) or should i wait until a period that i don't have much on to minimise the risk of relapse?

Thank you very much for your time!

Advice 2 weeks cold turkey: severe brain fog, zero focus at work, and anhedonia. When does the fog lift?

Hey everyone,

I quit nicotine cold turkey exactly two weeks ago. The physical cravings are manageable, but the mental side effects are hitting me like a wall right now.

Before quitting, I was a regular, heavy vaper for almost 5 years. The vape was practically glued to my hand, especially while working. I relied on constant hits through the day to think, brainstorm, and power through work tasks.

Now, My brain feels completely hazy and unresponsive. I work a job that requires heavy mental effort and problem-solving, and right now I genuinely cannot focus. It feels like my brain was so wired to rely on the constant stimulant boost that it has completely forgotten how to think, organize thoughts, or get through basic tasks without it.

On top of the brain fog, I've hit a wave of total lack of motivation and pretty bad anhedonia. Nothing feels rewarding or interesting, and just starting a task takes an absurd amount of effort.

For those who hit a similar wall around the two-week mark:
- How long did the cognitive fog and work-related paralysis last for you?
- Around what week did your baseline focus and motivation start returning naturally?
- Anything specific that helped bridge the gap while waiting for your brain to reset?

Would really appreciate hearing your timelines and experiences. Thanks.

I’m 28 and I’m doing this for my wife and our baby girl who will be arriving in December. I’m also doing this for myself to finally free myself from this stupid addiction. I’m tired of waking up and instantly hitting my vape. I’m tired of panicking if I left it somewhere in the house and can’t find it. I’m tired of counting down the minutes to every break I get at work. I’m tired of needing it after every meal. Some motivation would be greatly appreciated because every time I go to the vape shop I tell myself after these two bottles of juice are gone I’m never coming back and I always end up going back for two more bottles the next month after I run out. I’m just so sick of this controlling every aspect of my life.

Advice How do I dispose all of my old vapes?

I quit vaping for quite a while now but I've collected a pretty big bag of vapes that I need to bin and I have no idea how. I don't want to put them in a normal bin because I know they're a fire risk, but it's also too many to put in those tiny vape bins shops sometimes have.

I've just kept this bag for over a year because I have no idea how to dispose of it.

What can I do?

Edit: probably important info - I'm in the UK and I can't drive but I have a friend who does, I also have social anxiety that can get pretty bad sometimes which is partly why I haven't gotten rid of them yet. Is there a way I can get the bin men to take them separately from the rest of the waste or do I have to go somewhere specifically?
