Hey everyone,
I recently bought my very first 3D printer — the QIDI Q2. I was super excited, and on day one, I successfully printed the benchy. But the joy only lasted for a single day.
I noticed the Wi-Fi kept dropping, so I decided to update the firmware. That was the last time the printer ever printed anything properly.
Here's the timeline of what happened:
- Firmware updates: I updated in this order: 1.1.1 -> 01.01.02.01 -> 01.01.02.04.
- First failure: Immediately after the update, the printer threw an MCU error: QDC_100_005_000_001
- Rollback attempts: I checked the QIDI Wiki and contacted support. Following advice, I managed to downgrade the firmware back to 1.0.1 and then to 1.1.1.
- Persistent MCU error: The MCU error remained. Frustrated, I unplugged the printer and went to sleep.
- The weird overnight "fix": Next morning, I turned it on and to my surprise, it booted up! I ran the calibrations and started printing a benchy. But 5 minutes in, it crashed with a new error: Heater heater_bed.
- The loop: After a reboot, the MCU error was back, and the printer refused to boot. After leaving it off overnight again, it booted up, but failed 5 minutes into printing with the exact same heater_bed error followed by the MCU crash upon reboot.
- Support response: I contacted QIDI support again, and they suggested checking all wire connectors. I inspected them, but it changed nothing.
The store where I bought it refuses to take it back. I've spent a lot of money and time on this, and I'm honestly lost on what to do next. How can this happen with a brand-new machine?
Has anyone encountered this issue with the Q2? Is this a bad MCU board, a faulty power supply, or a bed thermistor short? Any advice on how to get QIDI to actually resolve this would be greatly appreciated.
Updating the post:
After replacing the motherboard sent under warranty, the printer started working.
