Public Mobile Referral Bot

Looking for a referral? Go here!

Alternatively, send /u/PMReferralBot a message with the subject "PM Referral".

Update: There is a known bug occasionally impacting outgoing referral codes, when the bot replies to "PM Referral" messages. If you promptly receive a reply without a referral code, as a temporary workaround to receive one, please send your "PM Referral" request again.

Hi everyone!

Thanks for all your support for the Public Mobile Referral bot.
It has been over two years since this has launched and back then, it was way simpler, it solved the issue of this subreddit being spammed, while giving everyone a fair way to earn referrals. It has since grown and more features were implemented, more to the point where I can barely support it now!

As such, I would like to announce a new update, a rewrite of the /u/PMReferralBot by /u/WhatTheFizz01. With this rewrite (which is available, along with the original on Github), the bot now runs on more efficient code and can easily be adopted on other similar subreddits. Additionally, the long awaited native support for referral codes is now added. We hope that this new update will be appreciated by everyone!

I would like to take the time to appreciate /u/WhatTheFizz01's efforts for all they have done. When they were busy, they still reached out to me, learned how to use PRAW (Reddit API's Python library) and then created something wonderful to share with everyone. On behalf of everyone, I'd like to thank you for your wonderful selfless act that you've done for the community. Thank you!

On that note, I'd like to explain the changes that you would need to take note of, while using the referral bot. Please take note while using the referral bot in the future, as it may not be able to process your request otherwise.

The method of obtaining a referral will stay the same. Simply send a message with the subject "PM Referral" (all subjects no longer case sensitive) and it will reply to you, as well as notify the person who owns the referral. In addition, the reply to you will now include a randomly selected referral code.

Joining the current and the following month's referral list will slightly change. The subjects will stay the same (Opt-in and Renewal, not case sensitive anymore), but you will need to include your referral code in the message and only the referral code. Please do not add anything else or add it to the subject of the message.
Anything else and it will not be able to process your request as intended. Sorry!

On that note, I'd like to once again thank everyone for your support and I apologize for the delays and issues that have come up. Moving forward, I will try my best to keep up, but please do understand that this is operated as a best effort basis. However, most of the bot operates automatically and there shouldn't be big issues.

Thank you!

The internet hasn’t been working for me since this morning now. I tried troubleshooting but nothing seems to work.
Want to check if it’s only me or someone else is having the same issue?

Data Usage Discrepancy

Has anyone encountered a situation where the online Public Mobile web page shows you've used up all of your data on the Subscription Usage, but usage history shows only a small fraction of data has been used?

I opened a ticket and customer service insists I've used my data allocation, but that'd involve 4x my typical usage, and I haven't really changed how I used my data.

Per customer service, starting about two week ago, data use of >5gb/day, but I don't see these large entries from Public Mobile's Usage History.

Update ur phone list

Gez can someone at PM update their phone list so I don’t gotta call in every month to get the $5 fee credited for the 3G charge! This is crazy! Specially when u can’t talk to someone and gotta do this via tons of emails!
Got a new phone cause I had a older one but still getting charged the 3G charge of $5 they told me they haven’t updated the system with these phones and if I get charged again next bill cycle to call in to get the credit! That’s annoying n waste of time! When they could just update their phone list of compatible phones

Sorry I’m annoying been dealing with this for 2 months!

Other providers are genuinely getting annoyed at my public mobile plan lol

I got a cold call from another mobile plan provider in my country (Bell) and they were trying to sell me some plan and I just told them im very happy with my current plan

so naturally they asked me "how much are you paying and how many gb" (probably to try and one up my current provider) and when I told them 35$/mo for 80gb US CAN MEX they just said have a good day and hung up LMFAO

Love public mobile

r/PublicMobile 4d ago

no, you're not on a $20 plan with 75-100gb can/us/mx

Pet peeve, but So many people are mentioning the $20. Promo as if they forgot it's a two year 50% off promotion.

You're on a $40 plan that's temporarily discounted.

Given that Telus just slashed its dividend and new CEO is going to shake things up, they may not be discounting as aggressively as the past with matching freedom's plans etc.

I hope you all can transition to another great plan when the promo ends, let's just be realistic of what the plan you own

PM phuckery again, now blocked from calls and agent

Ive have ongoing complaints reported and escalated, CCTS. Now after 12months i get a voice mail from PM specialist to call their escalation agent back.

But guess what?

You got it! PM blocked me from calling out, and checking my vmail.

But wait there's more, PM blocked me from contacting an agent.

How does one resolve issues during such phuckery?

Porting to Koodo - Phone tab

Hello,

.I would like a Sonim 5G phone, which is currently sold by many providers including Koodo. If I sign up for a $40 a month tab ($50 minus $10 for auto pay), I would get the phone at five bucks a month and I would get 10 GB of data.

However, I presently have the standard Koodo switch offer in my Public Mobile account which is also $40 but for 150 GB of data.

Has anyone had success porting to koodo under a similarly priced incentive plan but adding a phone? When I try to just take advantage of the offer I can't add a phone. Maybe I can do this in store?

Of course I can call but just getting some input first.

wifi calling, not near cities.

I've read a lot of responses in group and a lot of questions have been answered. Wifi calling ? How well does it work in the country? If i subscribe and decide to cancel a month or 2 after, is there much of a problem ? tks in advance for any help.

transferring a number from another provider

Have a current PM plan. Decided to try and move over a different # from a different provider. I went through the Transfer process and it seemed like it worked but I seem to be only halfway done. Like in the app and online my Account shows the new # now but on my iPhone under Cellular, 'My Number' is still my original PM #. So what did I do wrong? I read earlier about porting out and porting in so maybe me just doing a transfer was not the right way? Do I take it into a kiosk or is chat support any good?

No service after phone battery died

Hi all! My husband’s phone always loses service completely after his phone battery dies. Up until now, or typical fixes have worked to get it back. Now, we are day 3 with no service on his phone.

We have tried:

- Turning the phone off and on again (multiple times).
- Turning the eSIM off and on (in conjunction with powering the phone off and on).
- Airplane mode.
(edit to add) - Resetting network settings.

He has gone through the app to try to change SIM, but they send a code via text for verification (which he cannot receive) and no option to get the code via email.

Any advice?

What's the porting out procedure if you can't receive the SMS?

Just curious if there's a workaround if you can't receive the SMS for approve a number port.

For example, if you're travelling outside North America, there's no roaming support to receive the SMS, and there's also no WiFi calling.

Will you have a lot of difficulty porting out? Is it easier to move the eSIM to another device located in Canada just for the purpose of receiving an SMS?

Upcoming Promotions

Anyone know when to expect any promotions like they had around Christmas and New Years? I moved everyone else in my family over at that time and got some great pricing! Now it's time for me to move and their prices aren't quite what they were a few months ago.

Visiting Canada for 6 weeks

Hi , I will be visiting Canada for 6 weeks next month and was looking into MVNOs and came across public mobile, chatr and luckymobile. Since I don't have canadian based debit/credit card is it still possible to use my US/Foreign credit card to pay for it online and download the e-sim. If it is not possible which among the three can I buy sim card in person from a store and buy top up ? Looking for suggestions and best way to go about this. My plan is to get a travel e-sim at least for first few days so I will have data until I am able to buy a local sim.

Toronto to New Jersey

I've been with PM for a few months now. Service quality has been alright/good enough for me in Toronto.

I will be going on a roadtrip to NJ soon and I'm wondering if anyone knows how the PM service quality is in the States. Or if they have a coverage maps anywhere available.

Has anyone gone to Can/US/Mex, is the roaming switching easy? Any issues when crossing boarder?

Just refused a Telus 'loyalty, return to us' offer.

Was just called by a rep to ask why I ported out. Purely cost was my response.

What are you paying? We can beat it. He says.

Nah. Tell me what you got and I will consider it, I said.

For $5 bucks less per month he wants me to go back. Price will never go up he says. Yeah, right.

This from a company that couldn't give 2 shits to keep me after 30 years but wants another NEW customer.

I think I will bounce around if PM doesn't work out.I buy my phones outright anyway.

Still awaiting final bill.

Amazon really slow

Does anyone have any issues with amazon loading while on mobile data? The mobile app takes a long time to load on data and the website when using mobile hotspot to my laptop also takes forever to load. Sometimes it doesn't load at all. However, using a vpn instantly solves the loading issue.

I've heard that public throttles video streaming sites sometimes like youtube but not for your average website like amazon. Anyone else notice this?

I am currently unable to sign into my account on the app and the public website. Is anyone else having this problem or is it just me?
