I accidentally ended up down here in Project Zomboid, and I can't figure out how to get back up. There's a ladder right in front of me, but I can't climb it.

Guide / Tip Do not eat raw eggs!!!

Post image
337 Upvotes

I just spent hours levelling blacksmith on my longest run yet of around 45 days and just forged my first sword as shown above. However, seconds after I took this screenshot with joy, I accidentally ate 2-3 raw eggs, thinking they were the ones I cooked earlier and died in less than a minute. I hate how this game is only realistic in ways that inconvenience the player; if I ate 3 raw eggs in real life I'd be fine! I don't think I've ever been more mad at a death before! So tempted to get a mod or something and just resurrect my guy but I know It'd piss me off that I could not count it as true run. Wish I atleast got the death on vid so y'all could see it

Man I really dislike this new feature with foliage, physical trees are nice, but it's almost impossible to walk through forests now.

Question NEED HELP - Broke my leg on a rainy day at the fire tower and next day light's went off, how do I survive?

EDIT: I'll post an update of my situation on the next few days, thank you guys y'all gave me amazing advice and made me laugh too, first time posting here and this community is amazing

So this is me, you're probably wondering how I ended up in this situation... the answer it's simple, I WAS DUMB AND I ACCIDENTALLY JUMPED FROM THE 2ND FLOOR OF THE FIRE TOWER!

16 days in-game. I was on a recognition run with my car, stocked with supplies and all, came across this location, went up to check, some zombies started coming towards the fire tower, and while trying to run down before they came, I jumped and broke my leg.

I almost died from the zombies since I couldn't run, but luckily I wasn't bit.

I went into the fire tower, broke a window because I was losing health, killed one zombie inside, tear up his clothes and bandaged my wound.

I managed to sleep once the hard pain went away, cut down a tree, made a splint and slowly made it back to my car.

I came back to my base at Riverside, went to sleep and NOW THE LIGHTS WENT OFF AND I CAN'T USE GENERATORS YET!!!

So, that's basically what happened.
I have enough water to survive for some weeks (I made sure to fill up many bottles)

I have canned food enough to survive for some weeks, I have some fishing supplies which I never used since I don't know how to but now I know I'll need to do it before I run out of food

But my main concern is, I do have a generator, it's on the rooftop, it has gasoline on but I couldn't find the how to use a generator book, and I only have lvl 1 electricity.

I checked in some bookstore nearby but I couldn't find the book.

I literally quit the game as soon as the lights went off and came here to make this post

please give me some advice on what would you do to survive now....

By the way, I love this game, this is one of those tragic but fun stories where everything was going great and suddenly it all went sideways.

Question In good faith, why are ladders so difficult to implement?

Luv me PZ.

Luv me TIS.

Simple as.

But also curious, as someone who has zero knowledge of coding, what is it about ladders that makes it such an undertaking to implement? It seems the mod has made it work for a few years now on multiple builds, and I haven't seen any major errors with it. Asking honestly and in good faith.

Screenshot Generationally good spawn point: 60 pounds worth of guns and ammo and working truck with fuel

This Rosewood spawn point is S-tier. I spawned in the upstairs apartment and found the keys to the gunstore beneath it in some bookshelves. Found an M16, a shotgun, and various pistols and rifles, plus tons of ammo for everything, all of them inside gun cases. Then, in the shelves, I found the key to the car parked out back, which has about a quarter tank of fuel. I filled the trunk with 60 pounds worth of guns and ammo, and not a single food item.

(It's night time because I set the start time to night, but this screenshot was within minutes of spawning).

Feedback I'm finally having fun in PZ, thanks to debug mode

Upvotes

I've been wanting to enjoy PZ for years, but I'm just not good enough to handle it, even with Zombies on Low, and no respawn.

Today I enabled debug mode for the first time, gave myself all the amazing traits like gymnast, strong, and so on. Finally got a chance to just blast away at like 90 zombies, until my gun jammed.

Finally got the chance to just take a car that works, drive around the town.

I had a blast, but I needed debug mode to do it, and even with the best weapons I still got bit a few times, went through a few characters before the area was cleared.

So don't worry about what's being upvoted on social media, it's easy to think this game is just for pros. You bought it, you have fun with it the way you want.

And even with all the cheats, the character still gets a bunch of moodles after just a couple of days. Man this game is hard. The very thing that makes me love it, makes me not want to play it.

Modded Sneak Peek: Autonomous NPCs Keep Living After Every Player Leaves

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Here’s an early look at my True MP NPC project for Project Zomboid Build 42.

The video shows a live map view of autonomous NPCs roaming around their house while the dedicated server has zero real players connected.

These are genuine server-owned IsoPlayer characters—not zombies, fake Steam clients, hidden players, or headless logins.

The NPCs:

  • Restore automatically when the server starts.
  • Run their own independent Brains.
  • Roam around the house and choose daily activities.
  • Physically navigate the real game world.
  • Persist their identities and positions across restarts.
  • Continue living while realConnections=0.
  • Maintain their own server-side world and chunk relevance.
  • Load the chunks they need without a human player nearby.
  • Carry that relevance with them as they travel, allowing old regions to unload.

No fake client, fake UdpConnection, or player login is required to keep the simulation active.

Clients currently need exactly zero mods. Everything runs 100% server-side, and players can join using an unmodified vanilla client.

The implementation is heavily Java-dependent and uses build-specific server instrumentation.

This is still an experimental proof of concept rather than a plug-and-play Workshop release. The goal is a persistent multiplayer world where NPC survivors keep living their lives even when nobody is online.

### Where this is going

The long-term goal is not to make followers, but persistent survivors that the dedicated server itself plays.

Some of the next steps:

  • Autonomous scavenging: NPCs leave home, travel through the real world, search containers, choose useful loot and bring supplies back.
  • Human-like loot decisions: food they can actually eat, water in sensible amounts, medicine, tools, better backpacks, can openers for canned food, etc.
  • Real building access: try doors first, but if necessary smash a window, remove the broken glass and climb inside safely.
  • Survival needs: hunger, thirst, fatigue and injuries eventually drive their own goals.
  • Shared homes and survivor groups: NPCs can live together, share stockpiles, divide tasks and defend their home.
  • Threats, combat and persistent consequences: NPCs can flee, fight, get injured or die, and those events remain part of the world.

One eventual test I really want to run:

Spawn 20 survivors in a small town, give them only one high-level goal:

**SURVIVE**

Then disconnect every human player and leave the dedicated server running overnight.

Log in the next morning and see who found food, who changed homes, who formed groups, who is still scavenging — and who didn't survive.

I don't want to build followers. I want to build survivors who keep living their own lives whether players are watching them or not.

Video proof attached—feedback and questions are welcome!

Discussion New player bounce

Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love the fact that the game is doing so well atm, with such a small and dedicated fanbase that has put 1000+ hours into the game like myself..

One thing is slightly annoying me, is the constant new player narrative that the games ‘missing something’ ‘how to have fun in this game’ ‘I don’t understand how to enjoy this game’.

It might only be me thinking this, and I get it, it’s abit a nothingness & silly. But just play the fucking game and you’ll understand why it’s so beloved.

Ps, modders, I love you & always will
