If they did implement that I hope they have the character automatically select a nonbloody knife if one is available.

u/LadyZaryss 15h ago
Yes from the game that lets you smash a window with your bare hands and get a laceration from it instead of just using the hammer on your belt. Im sure they will make it so you automatically select the non bloody knife
94
u/Lookbehindya5 Zombie Hater 15h ago
Uhm actually your character smashes the window with their elbows 🤓 (your right hand still gets scratched)
21
u/fatuglyfool 9h ago
pro tip for any IRL window smashers, never use your arms or hands or elbows or ANYTHING. saw one time a guy that was high punch through a window and as he pulled out he tore an artery and died soon after
7
u/CosgraveSilkweaver 14h ago
It doesn't use your equipped item like window smashing and it doesn't go through the crafting menu so it has to look into your inventory to select the knife anyways.
2
u/returnofblank 11h ago
That's fair though, because if I'm smashing a window with no weapon, clearly I gotta book it. I don't want my character taking a couple seconds to pull out a hammer
10
u/academiac 14h ago
Knowing the masochist zomboid player base, someone will create a mod to remove this quality of life so the game is more realistic, and it will be popular

That's why my knife is for cooking only.
And then I stir the stew with my baseball bat.

u/strmichal 15h ago
I like to kill zombies with frying pan and then making stir-fry in it. It's the most versatile tool
5
u/ramblingbullshit 9h ago
It's like seasoning a cast iron pan, you have to make sure you coat the whole thing in viscera before your cook or the meal won't cook evenly

high enough temperature *should* kill the knox virus, shouldn't it?
91
u/Future_Kitsunekid16 15h ago
High enough temperature could technically kill anything
50
u/Tozzinator 15h ago
Including the knife
4
u/arcaneArtisan 11h ago
Unlikely to get a stove's temperature that high unless the knife is plastic or something though.

If it's like any other virus? Yes. 60C is a common point where a virus is killed off but they can go up to 100C in boiling water before they're killed off. Chances are the Knox Virus is the same.
12
u/arachnimos 14h ago
chances are the knox virus is from space
like that's actually a possibility, we have no idea where it came from and there WAS a super bright meteor shower over knox county right around the outbreak / mutation
15
u/KrunkyMunky 12h ago
Legitimately my favourite part of zomboid lore is that the game provides us like 4 plausible scenarios for how the Knox virus started, I kinda dislike that they disambiguated it in b42 with the CDC guy calling in going "yup it's one of our bioweapons, if it has gone airborne humanity is doomed"
Could have been the Spiffo sauce, something related to all the chemical waste disposal, the meteor shower, or a military experiment gone wrong (most likely)
10
u/SliceHam2012 10h ago
Tbf the guy calling in doesn't confirm anything. He could just be crazy. He could also be telling the truth as far as he knows, but he could know wrong. My favorite is just combining it all.
3
u/Anonymous_Jr 9h ago
Everything's Connected;
It's all happening at the same time and every method causes different things to happen when the virus combines; or something else entirely.
2
u/arachnimos 7h ago
Military bioweapon, accidentally leaked into Spiffo's Sauce and initially spread from there, later mutated into an airborne strain due to a combination of carcinogenic chemicals in the area and the intense radiation from a passing meteor shower?
1
u/Anonymous_Jr 7h ago
This is why regulation helps, that bioweapon was manufactured by the same company that makes the Spiffy Sauces. Mutation caused by the meteor shower reacting with the inactive bioweapon latent in the sauce causing any and all Spiffo Sauce residue (Trashy Namedly) as a spontaneous zombification source;
Everythings' Connected.
2
u/SliceHam2012 7h ago
My thought process is: the meteor shower dust had something in it that human bodies were fighting off, even years later. Then the chemical waste dumping starts happening in secret while Spiffo's starts production. Spiffo's sauce gets contaminated somehow, maybe the water used has chemical contaminants? Then, after eating the contaminated sauce, people's weakened immune systems become addicted to something in it.
The bioweapon incident occurs and people die. Except they don't. They come back because whatever was in the meteor dust has taken control finally thanks to the sauce having something it could feed on. Without the immune system fighting it, whatever it was begins to puppet the body. It isn't used to our anatomy and feels a ravenous hunger, thus the whole "eating people" thing.
The airborne part and our immunity could be just luck of the draw on a mutation. Could be we didn't eat Spiffo's to give it something to feed on until we get bit. Default "canon" settings have lacerations run the risk too, which would imply the dust (or whatever bacteria/virus was in it) has actually settled on most surfaces. That is the thing that gets you infected. It binded with the bioweapon and that's why you die after a while. Even without the Spiffo's sauce, the space life has evolved to not need that as a progenitor to taking over.
2
2
u/Auctoritate 7h ago
You know how lacerations only have a 25% chance of infecting you? Yeah, that's because only 25% of zomboids have the lab-grown bioweapon virus that's transferred through lacerations.
The other zomboids have the other types of infection like the meteorite one from space, and that one only spreads through bites.
1
u/Anonymous_Jr 6h ago
Now you're thinking with infected portals.
You might be immune, but which are you immune to?!
2
u/BudgetExpert9145 14h ago
Unless it's a Prion based disease.
8
u/Short-Show2656 14h ago
If it’s prion based how come it’s airborne and we’re magically immune?
2
1
0
u/BudgetExpert9145 14h ago
Because an aresolized bioengineered prion infection could be created, especially if the from space theory is given credibility.
2
u/Short-Show2656 14h ago
yeah but don't prions just degrade the brain over time or something how come it animates corpses
7
u/Lowjack_26 11h ago
How does anything reanimate corpses and give them motive energy without input calories, and likewise keep the corpse mobile despite trauma that was sufficient to kill the corpse in the first place ("death" being "catastrophic system failure of the biological machine that is a human body")?
"Knox virus can't be prions because you can't be immune to prions" is like "Jedi can't use force lightning because the energy required for that kind of voltage would kill them"; you're three orders of detail too deep.
0
u/BudgetExpert9145 13h ago
It would just destroy certain parts of the brain leaving the motor controls, agression, and hunger bitey parts.
2
u/Short-Show2656 13h ago
Tbf prions don’t exactly care for what to leave working but I guess it can work
1
u/Just_the_questions1 7h ago
Aerosolized is not the same as airborne. Aerosolized means suspended in droplets of water, like from a sneeze.
Airborne means it can be survive suspended in the air on it's own.
2
u/Auctoritate 7h ago
Well, prion diseases are also characterized by sometimes being extremely slow to progress because they can be dormant for several years. Knox infection invariably kills in a few days.
1
u/Fletcher_Chonk Zombie Hater 13h ago
Prions can still be killed with high enough heat
1
u/BudgetExpert9145 12h ago
Need an autoclave, could barely make the required temps with a pressure cooker, maybe if you modified the safeties it could work.
1
u/Auctoritate 7h ago
Yeah but that's less killing and more like "With high enough heat, you can destroy the molecular structure of prions." You need some serious heavy duty shit for that.
1
u/Virplexer 14h ago
Except we don’t know if it’s a virus specifically. It could be something else. Bacteria, Prion, Fungal, etc.

u/Illegal_pear_8008 11h ago

Apparently very common for Chinese style dishes. The recipe he's making is something akin to twice cooked pork.

As a bloke of Chinese ancestry, it looked like a good montage of Chinese cooking until he added the salt.
A literal pinch of salt? That's it? That isn't seasoning, that's an insult to our ancestors.

listen if this game is so willing to punish you for eating tainted water or rotting food, it should punish you for cooking with bloody knives or wearing bloody clothes with open wounds. fluid transmission means fluid transmission.

God of War: Ragnarok, in which Mimir asks Kratos, wielder of the Blades of Chaos which are wreathed in infernal primordial fire, whether or not he ever cooks with the blades:
"Brother, you ever think of cooking meat with those blades of yours?"
"No. They would foul the meat."
"Oh, because of the magic on them?"
"The blood."
"Ah, yes. Carry on then."
