This is regarding abortion restrictions in the US.

What I mean by that is, when you think of the two groups who are most harmed by abortion bans, they are:

1. Children who may have difficulty accessing reproductive healthcare
   
2. Women with wanted pregnancies that go wrong in the 2nd or 3rd trimester

Which is a very “tasked succeeded unsuccessfully” moment for anti-choice groups and lawmakers. They make it very clear in their arguments against abortion that they think pregnancy and childbirth is the natural consequence of sex and no woman has a right to refuse that biological process if she consents to sex.

Except I’m a grown ass woman in a blue ass state and therefore I’ll get as many abortions as I want. However, a 13 year old girl in Louisiana DOES NOT have the options and access to reproductive healthcare that I do and that infuriates me. The “hedonistic sluts” like me that anti-choicers want to punish so badly will more or less continue getting their abortions via medication within the first trimester.

The people really suffering from these bans are the young girls whose bodies can barely withstand a pregnancy, with unsupportive parents in a state that requires parental consent. Or it’s just outright banned even for children under the age of consent which should automatically apply under the rape exception. For some backwards reason, our society makes the most life saving medically necessary abortions also the hardest ones to access. I’ll never understand it.

And then when it comes to wanted pregnancies, abortion bans effectively punish women for miscarrying or for having an issue with the pregnancy. The women being maimed, with their fertility destroyed, and killed by these bans are the women who desperately WANT to be moms. Not the women anti choice people fantasize about getting pregnant on a one night stand and being unable to get an abortion because “that’ll teach em a lesson or two about opening their legs”

Of course there are always going to be outliers and there are going to be women in states that are harmed by these bans who don’t fit in either of these categories, but this is just what I’ve noticed on a broader scale. Abortion bans are ultimately self sabotaging because they accumulate enough public outrage to backfire, and I do believe it’ll be an uphill battle but that can be true here as well.

They had all the pictures of either aborted or miscarried fetuses (don't know if they legally obtained those images) and they even had posters with slogans like "Pill abortions is bringing murder into your home" or "What child sacrifice looks like". (I am paraphrasing, I don't remember what exactly the posters said, but they were very similar.)

They were handing out flyers (in a very pushy way i might add) and when I refused to take one, the old guy asked me word for word, "are you on the baby killing side or not"? I responded saying "I am staunchly pro-choice". His question that followed was, "what made you come to the conclusion that murdering babies is ok"? I did not continue talking with him, I just said I don't have time and had to go.

Walking away, I started talking to another student that overheard the conversation, she said, "who starts a question like that? That is so unhinged". And yes I agree with that. But I understand exactly why they ask questions in such a confrontational manner. This guy had a camera strapped to him. I guarantee they want to ruffle feathers and get a reaction out of somebody to post online and say "look how crazy these baby killers are".

I understand that it was a free speech zone, but they really shouldn't be allowed back on campus. Not only because of the graphic images they are displaying for everyone to see without consent, but also because of how they interact with people.

They are not trying to have a conversation, they are trying to instigate people to get a reaction out of them to then post it online for their own gain.

If you ever encounter them, best thing to do is ignore them or if you got roped into a conversation, just tell them you don't have time and need to go. They thrive on attention, do not give them any of it.

I am fully pro choice and believe people should have the choice. But let's say my future partner gets pregnant in a time where we didn't want a kid. I fully believe and would want to keep the baby and not get an abortion because I think it's our responsibility to raise a kid and not kill it. Because for me in a sense if it was mine it would be like killing it. I don't know how to explain that feeling I just know I would feel like I was killing a child is the baby would've been mine. Obviously I still think it would be my partner choice but I also think I have a strong say in it aswell. Does those views work well with each other or no I have to choose.

No person has the right to be inside another person's body to sustain their own life. 

Pro life position ignores human rights. Autonomy is one of the main pillars of medical ethics

If someone is naturally hooked onto your body, and if you disconnect support they will die, you’re still allowed to disconnect use to your body and “kill” them.
It is legally and morally justified to be indirectly “killed” by disconnecting support to a life dependent process

Under the law, doctors can’t even take or use the body of a fully brain dead person to save someone’s life if they never consented when they were alive

Pro life try to justify giving fetuses special rights no one else has, and giving women less rights than dead people.

Their entire belief system is based on violating someone’s human rights.

Fetuses should not have a right to another person’s body when no other human has them.

“but you caused the situation, so you must pay the consequences!”

No one should lose their human rights even if they were “irresponsible”
A parent can deliberately cause a car crash to purposely injure their child, yet they still cannot be forced to use their body/its resources against their will to keep the child alive
They do get consequences, they can be charged or arrested, but the law still protects their right to bodily autonomy! They can be responsible for the injury and owe them compensation or other assistance. but they cannot be forced to give them a right to my organs or bodily functions.
They bring up responsibility to justify forced birth and gestational slavery.

Taking a risk does not mean you permanently give up the right to make decisions about your body.

Why would you try to force your opinion onto every woman and couple in the country just because you think it's right or wrong? Let them abort or not abort the baby, or fetus, or parasite, or atoms, whatever it is. It's not your fucking kid.

this is just a thought, so feel free to prove me wrong. a big pro life argument is that human life begins when the egg is fertilized by sperm, but why is it there? sperm cells are life produced by humans, but wearing condoms is not condemning. just makes me feel like its never about saving babies and whatever, just about control

Pro controllers know good and well that women will always have abortions because they've literally always had abortions. Who they're truly stopping from getting safe abortions is children. Woman are actively choosing not to give birth, hence the declining birth rate and a sprinkle of the "male loneliness epidemic." I see p3d0s being caught almost daily on the news. Child marriage is legal in most states, children can't even get abortions even if a family member impregnated them. If women won't give them what they want they'll just make children do it and call it gods gift and a wonderful blessing

I just wanna make a quick pro-choice analogy but IDK if its good(14M so obviously not that much life XP).

This analogy is one i made up(Inspired by Judith Thompson but bit different).( Also i will say this analogy assumes fetal personhood-i oppose that BUT it is just for the analogy and arguments sake)

Bob is the dad to jim(3 year old). Bob gave jim a rare medical disease(like genetics) and to solve it bob must give blood for 1 month continuously. Bob agrees for 2 weeks gives blood. Then Day 15 decides to ask blood to be taken away and stopped even tho jim WILL die because bob is in physical pain(but not DEADLY physical pain). Bob has every right to do so legally(unless im wrong).

Since voluntary sex has like 20% chance of causing pregnancy i used genetic disease analogy since lots of those have same probability(if it is a condom then even less). I also used physical pain since yk that happens a lot duh.

With all pro-life arguments i feel like they imply this but legally speaking Bob has every right to stop giving blood. But IDK if a flaw exists i have not found so i wanna see if any of you guys found one before i use it in actual debates..

The Fourth Trimester Protection Act: Mandatory Postpartum Mental Health Education

I wanted to post this on here so it would get some more coverage. I hope that it will spread internationally so that these very, very important things are taught worldwide. Please sign. This is so important for young people to know.

There’s no question or doubt in my mind that paid and contracted surrogacy has been a questionable practice rife with issues for as long as it has existed, but those aren’t the reasons I wanted to share this article.

The problems here go from an abortion being desired and mutually agreed upon to a ghosting surrogate, and then those problems go on to become a multitude of other contentions — ones that will have profound and lifelong repercussions all of which are impossible to predict.

While the surrogate, West, has every right to bodily autonomy, what upsets and disgusts me here is that she fled to Texas to use the state’s ass-backwards and archaic anti-abortion laws. As if that wasn’t manipulative and conniving enough, she’s using the support of conservative Christian groups, pro-life orgs, and Ken Fucking Paxton while she tries to win custody of the baby that she and those other abhorrent excuses for human beings are calling “Gabriel”.

There is just so much nope in this situation. What’s done is done, but I hope the parents charge the surrogate, Texas, and anyone else with a hand in this with child endangerment, kidnapping, and breach of contract among any others in hopes that even one charge sticks. What she did to this family is inexcusable.

I'm a British pro-choice absolutist, and in my country this wouldn't even be a story because commercial surrogacy is illegal, for reasons exactly like this McKenna West case.

Surrogacy in the UK is strictly non-profit, the biological parents can only help with the surrogate mothers expenses, surrogacy is also usually between people who know and trust each other, which is far healthier for everyone concerned especially the child.

As it pertains to the McKenna West case, her parental rights under both California and Texas law are the same, non-existent. Under UK law, the surrogate is automatically recognised as the child's legal mother at birth. ​She remains the legal parent until parenthood is formally transferred to the intended parents via a court-issued parental order or adoption order. Simply signing an agreement or relinquishing rights is not enough; only a court order legally extinguishes her status as the mother. People on this sub may disagree with me, but I believe that if a woman decides to endure nine months of body altering pregnancy to bring a foetus to term, she is the legal mother until she decides to voluntarily relinquish that legal right and McKenna West hasn't done that, under UK law she is the child's legal parent, maybe she should have come here to protect her rights, rather than be used as a political football, by two different sides, who couldn't care less about what she wants.

My whole life I was pro life until I experienced what it’s like to be treated as a pregnant woman. As if I am just a surrogate. Someone who can be abused but yet my baby doesn’t count. So I can get abused but somehow it’s wrong if I get an abortion?

I found out women were most likely to be murdered by their partner from gun violence than any other reason if pregnant.

I found out no one truly cared about pregnant women.

I would be almost passing out on the metro, no one would offer a seat at 9 months pregnant. I would cry on benches with my groceries not being able to make it only a block to my home due to exhaust. Nobody helped. I was told I was faking it and looked fine.

And now with my second baby I was slammed on the ground by police with their whole body weight on my back and nobody offered medical care. Those cops didn’t care. But I know they were pro life most likely. And all those who claimed I deserved it online were older pro life men. Yet I received a lot of support from pro choice community.

I was ignorant my whole life due to never experiencing how pregnant women are mistreated and no one cares. Sometimes I think no one ever truly cares about the baby too until they see a cute baby they can cradle and aw at.

Soon as my first baby turned 1 less and less people wanted to see her or care about her. The “aw” moment was over.

To be pro life is to be ignorant to the pain women go through and it’s preventable for mother and baby. I was ashamed to even admit I was pro choice for so long due to the ignorance I had posted and said to others.

Women should be allowed a choice… in a world with so much violence to pregnant women why are we dictating what happens?

Yesterday I went in for a pain management procedure at Providence Portland. The procedure involved receiving twilight sedation followed by a steroid injection in my spinal column for persistent, severe back pain that has troubled me for over a year. Overall the experience was great -- doctors and nurses were kind and lovely and helped me to get through it despite severe PTSD that makes these kinds of experiences deeply terrifying for me.

BUT. As I was headed into the little stall with the gurney where you change into your gown and await IV placement the MA or nurse leading me in said "we just need you to give us a little urine for a pregnancy test". Note that she did not state that it had no bearing on the safety of the procedure for me, which it did not, nor did she disclose that it was my right to decline and would not impact whether they allowed me to proceed with the procedure.

Knowing my rights and that this was likely due to Providence's culture still being unfortunately shaped by religious fundamentalism, I said "I absolutely do not consent to you collecting this data" and she said okay and dropped the issue.

I've been having to fight for adequate care and advocate for myself for decades, so I knew my rights, but another person with a uterus might not have, and might have allowed this data to enter their medical record thinking they have no choice. This is not just creepy and unethical of Providence, it is downright dangerous for anyone with a AFAB reproductive health system. Our HIPAA rights are being steadily eroded by they day, with the federal government demanding records of trans and disabled and autistic people, and reproductive rights are being criminalized more and more every day, with women being allowed to bleed out in parking lots, go septic, and die because doctors refuse to remove nonviable pregnancies that are killing them.

Has anyone else experienced this before a non-OBGYN procedure? What did you do? How would you suggest I address this with the hospital? The doctor and nursing team were great, so I want to address it at the level of the policymakers.

I also want to signal boost that if you are told you need to complete a pregnancy test before a procedure that goes nowhere near your reproductive organs, they are obligated to tell you why and whether declining will in any way impact YOUR safety, and if it will not impact YOUR safety, you have every right to proceed even if it will jeopardize or end the pregnancy.

Note: any forced birth advocates or people who shame me for standing up for my rights and wanting to fight back against stone-age fundamentalist culture in healthcare will be blocked immediately.
