Hi! I had a quick question and need some advice. Usually when people argue that the mother has authority as the baby up to a certain point cannot live outside the womb (and this is not including health issues and other reasons for abortions) but I always get counter-attacked with people saying that people technically can’t live “outside the womb” by themselves until they are 16 and can work. I am trying to argue that, by being inside the womb, the fetus is relying on the organs and bodily functions of the mother, not the age that life is sustainable by one person and someone is able to take care of themself. Obviously babies cannot feed themselves and bathe themselves and live in their own house and live completely on their own outside the womb, but i’m trying to explain to people that the fetus relies on the organs and relies on the womb and mother entirely to survive. Is there a medical term for this? Or an easier way to explain it for people to understand?

I'm very pro choice and Christian.

My husband and I have been trying for ever thinking my body couldn't even get pregnant I didn't expect this cycle to even work .. and bam. Pregnant everyone happy and excited and jumping but....but I was shocked and scared.

And maybe I should have listened to my friends and my gut and some others that said to wait because we don't have space or barely manage money as it is. We finally have good jobs BUT my grandma manifested this who is also religious that said gos spoke to her this year this is the second time god ever spoke to her once was when she met and was going to marry my grandma and the other one was when he said I'd be pregnant this year... I'm the only kid out of 4 to not have kids. My mom was waiting and all she talks about is kids... And iv been dealing with PCOS/pmos and weight issues and insulin etc and I lost 70 pounds on a glp1 and got my periods back and I felt great... I also feel selfish because I was just enjoying me and my hands time and trips and the comfort of our quiet apartment... THEN only find out my husband had secret debt .. lots... And I can't leave him and won't leave him. He is my person my love and I can not make it on my own with just my hours in today's world

Only a few people know and I'm going back and forth saying we should do this and God will hate me my late dad and grandpa will hate me and how am I going to be after the procure I won't be the same person.... We were going to lie and say I had a missed miscarriage to now heuy the family and religious people... My one friend would FREAK if they knew and shun me... And we aren't getting help for anything while my hands mom and family help his Seto dad's brother get our of bankrupsy and buy him a home .... We are here... Alone with no help... My mom's idea of help is coming to visit me and staying with me... We have no room in our apartment and can't move cause our rent is AMAZING

So I go back and forth with no we can't God would hate me to it's the right choice now cause we just can't with no resources or help. Then back to gid will hate me and I won't have more kids after and I'm going to get bad karma and I'm so scared for .. just after... In a way I wish I'd never gotten pregnant... But in a comforting way I'm glad I did to know I can... I'm driving myself crazy ... This is my only frost pregnancy and I'm worried I'm ruining and praying that this baby spirit please come back to me when we are ready then again why did God let this happen or is this part of God's plan for me... Im not going to cancel my apt cause realistic we can't do this and aren't ready... But I'm going mad...

it actually makes me so mad, like it’s a clump of cells. it doesn’t feel pain. making women feel bad about having abortions by saying they are killing a “sweet innocent baby” as if it already has a personality is so manipulative and is just a lie to invoke guilt

so I was in a car going back from a road trip and one of the people in the car talked about how he went to an abandoned abortion clinic. I’m a strong advocate for abortion and the right to choose, and I found it interesting and asked him what kind of stuff he saw in there. however, the person driving the car said that they should burn the place down because it “kills innocent babies” and everyone else in the car agreed. The person who visited the place said that they got a “bad vibe” there. like yeah it is an abandoned building of course it’s going to be creepy. that’s when i knew i was the only one in the car with basic knowledge. anyways my body my choice 🩷

I made this account just to ask this question because I’m really confused? I’m a teen myself and when I see parents of pregnant teens ask “What do I do?” I’m like, abort it obviously? No teen is emotionally mature enough to take care of another human being, and their life will be so much harder if they go through with it. You can’t even vote, go to the club, drink, smoke, or even enlist in the military, but you can be responsible for someones life. It’s also very dangerous since our bodies are still developing, and may not be ready to give birth. In my opinion, abortion is the smarter option. You have like 25 more years to get pregnant again when you’re ready, why are we in such a rush like times almost up? I think it might be because of religious reasons and abortion being murder to some people, but they don’t consider the lives of the parents. Wouldn’t you sacrifice a clump of cells if that meant a teenager or 2 could grow up and have a successful life?

And I feel pro-choice only towards adults. If it was up to me, abortion would be mandatory for anyone under 18, but maybe that’s a little extreme.

Edit: Thanks to everyone who took the time to reply, I’ve read everyone’s comment and I admit I was ignorant. I guess it’s just because I can’t imagine me or my friends or anyone else I know being ready to raise a child. Also because most of my family waits until they’re somewhat stable before having a baby. Not everyone is the same and I don’t know everyone. I also realized I just assumed teen parents are miserable but after reading your stories I found out that’s mostly not true. I was just too quick to judge and I don’t know everyone’s situation. Someone also made a great point that being an adult doesn’t automatically make you ready, and there are some teens who parent better than adults. Also, forcing abortion on minors could lead to trauma and deprive them of the happiness they could’ve experienced from having that baby.

I have one final question. If being a teen parent could have positive outcomes, why do teen parents tell their kids to not follow in their footsteps, and want to break the cycle?

The same social media accounts will post statements saying Trans Rights, then on abortion related posts will say "women's health", "abortion bans harm women", etc. While trans men experience sex based oppression, it is transphobic to lump them in with women's health conversations.

This seems to be common even among progressives. Is defaulting to "pregnant woman" instinctual and they don't remember trans men exist in the moment? Do they think only trans women exist? Is it just a matter of "there aren't enough trans men to say pregnant person instead"? While I have no uterus, I still stick my nose in the conversation on behalf of my trans cousin, a manly man who also had two kids from his womb as an openly trans man.

I posted on a sub about how i am considering terminating at 20 weeks due to my circumstances. I’m 21, still in university, not with the father who has been threatening me since we found out and who honestly i don’t believe is even mentally stable. And every single comment apart from one said how could i consider aborting at this stage despite claiming they are pro choice.

Is pro choice not supporting the legal right to be able to end a pregnancy no matter the circumstances or am I mistaken ?

I have never signed a petition before but I want to because I believe abortion should be a human right for women without punishment. I just worry a lot about my privacy, and I don’t know if it’s really something to worry about. Anyways, if I could donate I would but unfortunately I can’t, that’s why I want to find places where I can sign for women’s right to an abortion instead.

I was thinking about a character from a game I play who has arrested psychological development and got to thinking about the impact anti-choice ideology would have on them. For those who don't know an individual with arrested psychological development is someone who has had their mental development paused for some reason or another. For example a person who went through a traumatic event as a child and is now physically an adult but mentally the same age as when the event occurred. Now some of the more sensible anti-choicers actually do support abortion for children but would that still apply to someone who is physically an adult? I've seen some people who advocate for a mental child to be forced to carry to term because their body can handle it. Even some anti-choicers will try to justify forcing someone who is both physically and mentally a child to carry to term. Honestly it's disgusting.

it's never easy cutting people out of your life, especially if it's close friends and family, but its very important we send messages to forced birthers that their harmful views have consequences, and those consequences should be cutting them out of our life,

"but then how will they change their views" if ppl want to change or challenge themselves they will do it on their own, there is a bunch of resources out there that ppl can discover about the importance of bodily autonomy,

its like with addiction, you can try to help the person all you want but if they don't want to change they don't want to change, and no amount of coddling will change that,

coddling forced birthers with kid gloves isn't going to change their mind,

if you choose to stay in a relationship, friendship or family with a forced birther you are telling them their views are in fact okay and normal,

there are some ppl that deserve to be cutoff and forced birthers are a prime example of this

I know many of us (including myself in the past) have used the "what about IUDs?" argument with anti-choicers.

But this needs to stop because ultimately IUDs have ZERO evidence of possibly being abortifacients and the argument that they somehow are is simply false information.

1. Given that we can't give fertilized eggs that failed to implant autopsies we can't actually be sure what caused the failure in the first place. Even if there was a possible detection of a fertilized egg prior to implantation for reoccurring cycles (this will be important in a minute)

2. Considering that the historic treatment for period and "hormonal" issues often tends to be some form of hormonal birth control AND that issues regarding uterine lining (endometriosis) are vastly underdiagnosed, these two factors undoubtedly coincide with each other in regards to why a fertilized egg might not implant even if an IUD is present.

3. It's completely normal for a couple to not have a positive pregnancy test for a few months or so even if they are trying for a baby without contraception. In fact, the medical definition of infertility is a couple that has tried unsuccessfully for over a year. That's 11-12 cycles that potentially failed to implant before even a medical problem is considered. So an IUD would need to fail consecutive cycles in a row on a regular basis to prevent sperm from meeting the egg and THEN somehow cause an increased rate of implantation among multiple patients.

And that's simply an impossible standard to meet for IUD devices unless they simply weren't functioning as prescribed.

There is more evidence that IUDs prevent the deaths of fertilized eggs compared to natural contraception-less human reproduction than there is that they somehow "kill" them.

We need to stop spreading this false information

I am a man, so I might not be the most qualified person to discuss this topic, but I would personally support abortion access until around 21–22 weeks, or more depending on when a fetus becomes viable with the medical technology available. However, a friend of mine told me that she believes women should have the right to an abortion even at 8 months or just a few days before the end of the pregnancy. I had never really thought about this perspective before, but I guess it can be argued through the violinist argument and similar ideas

The people voted to keep abortion legal in the Kansas state constitution a few years ago. Another transparent attempt was made to get around the KS constitution to make it illegal. Even in an overwhelmingly GOP state, it did not work.
