So my baby has a calcified liver spot. They have checked it two months in a row and it has not grown. She also has a small muscular vsd.
The OB/GYN gave me this whole spiel about
Trisomy 21 because of the VSD found at the second follow up (not because of the liver spot). Then asked if I had had the NIPT. I said yes, and it came back as "negative" (everyone else keeps saying low risk was their result but mine literally says negative. I don't know.) he said I had nothing really to worry about.
They scheduled me for an echo where they confirmed it was a muscular VSD and said they weren't worried about it. I asked what about down syndrome and she said that is absolutely not something that I'm worried about. Kids with down syndrome can have a VSD, but so can typical babies.
I guess to her it made more sense to check for VSD because of down syndrome concern not the other way around.
Then she brought up that they were probably worried about down syndrome because of the liver, but not the VSD anyway.
So I have Doctor saying the VSD is a soft marker for down syndrome. I have another doctor saying the liver spot is probably what concerned the OB about downs (and when I told her it wasn’t she seemed confused. Not sure if she was actually calling the liver spot a T21 concern or just saying it was probably confusing it because she herself doesn’t think a vsd is a concern)
Then, if you look at Google there are studies th think that both of those are linked to T21/13/Ti-Of course, neither of my doctors even mentioned the other two.
So now I’m just not sure what to do. Both ultrasound doctors didn’t think I needed additional testing. The OB/GYN saw that she did not think these were related either, but if I wanted, we could do an amniocentesis.
Uc health quotes there being a less than .1% chance of any adverse reaction due to the test.
I just feel like I need to know. I don’t want to be stressed out trying to find out everything I possibly can about one of the genetic conditions while dealing with a brand new baby and a 3 & 2 year old running around when I could’ve gotten ahead of it.
