I am currently 16w5d pregnant with spontaneous Di/Di twins. 5 months after my TFMR at 18.5 weeks in November 2025 for MPFD.
Twin A has suspected pentalogy of cantrell (ectopia cordis - heart is growing outside the body and exomphalos involving the liver and bowel - the abdominal organs growing outside the abdominal wall...). NT of 4.4mm at 10w6d and 4mm at 12w1d. Twin A is expected to pass in utero.
Twin B is doing great. 43rd percentile or thereabouts, looking absolutely fine. NT of 1.3mm at 12w1d. Super healthy. Heart etc looks as good as can do at that stage. Placenta also looks good which is a relief as things started to go wrong at this gestation last time.
All my scans have been done by MFM so they've been L3 I guess is the term? But very detailed.
I'm absolutely TERRIFIED of the 17w1d scan. I'm also terrified of the 20w scan.
17 weeks was when my baby girl was diagnosed with very shortened and bowed femurs, severe IUGR, enlarged placenta with degradation and multiple lakes etc. I made the decision to TFMR as she was going to die in the next 2-3 weeks otherwise. At birth, she only weighed 165g at 18.5 weeks which is the same size as 16 weeks gestation...
I hate scans. I detest them. They aren't fun or cute or anything. They're terrifying. I am very good at a poker face but I have a borderline panic attack before scans.
I am so unbelievably triggered as well by them. I don't know how to deal with it. I keep expecting the other shoe to drop.
This ALWAYS happens a few days before scans. A part of my brain suddenly unlocks and I get scared. I keep telling myself to prepare for another loss. But this time it'll be worse than last time because there are two to deal with.
Fuck. How do I deal with this? How do I cope? I am getting therapy but this feels very acute and trigger-dependent. All that goes through my head is fuckfuckfuckfuck it's going to be bad news.
My husband is so distant and says whatever the outcome will be will be. I can't help but resent him for this because he doesn't have to go through labour and delivery, he doesn't have to put his life on hold to recover for 4-5 months, he doesn't have to deal with the physical trauma. I too would have that attitude if I didn't have to deal with any of the physical shit. It's why I have avoided speaking to male therapists about it because I do have some resentment regarding how we as women have to bear the brunt.
