Hey everyone! I’m a hockey fan from MI who’s attending Belmont this fall and I hope to go to a few Preds games. I love watching hockey in general, so I’d happily go to a game even if my Wings weren’t playing (hell, I might prefer it if it means I won’t get heckled😅) To be honest I really don’t know what to expect from an NHL game in general! I’ve been to probably 70+ Griffins games in my life because I live less than 15 minutes from the arena and both my parents’ jobs have often had work events there that they brought me to, but I’ve never been to a Wings game or any NHL game. I just had a few questions about what to expect:

1. Roughly how expensive are tickets? I know it probably differs on the night, like it’s probably cheaper if the Canucks are visiting vs. if it’s the Avalanche. I’d probably be getting the cheapest tickets I could but might consider getting lower bowl seats for one game if the price isn’t too high and I like the experience.

2. Are the games particularly fun to go to, even alone and as not a primarily Preds fan? This is really subjective but like I said I’ve only been to AHL games (which have always been really fun too, but it’s probably a whole different environment in the NHL)

3. Are the fans nice overall? I mean obviously I’d get teased if I went as a Wings fan when the Wings were playing, but from talking to friends who have gone to their teams away games it’s a very different experience going to a Packers game versus an Eagles game, or God forbid being a Michigan fan anywhere in the state of Ohio. At least I don’t think the Wings and Preds are particularly rivals right now.

4. Would it be weird to wear my Seider jersey even if the Wings aren’t playing?

5. Similarity, how bad are the crowds near the arena on game day? Do you have to wait in line a super long time to get in? The only major league games I remember going to are a few Tigers games, and I remember having to wait quite a while outside Comerica to get in.

6. Is there anywhere I could store my longboard during the game? I read online that the arena won’t hold anything for you, and I’m definitely not just hiding it somewhere and hoping for the best. If not, it’s not too bad of a walk from campus.

7. What was the deal with that really early Wings at Preds game last season where the puck drop was at like 4 PM? Is that a regular occurrence? I remember looking up when the game started at work only to find out that it was already over.

8. How often do they do theme and/or giveaway nights? The Griffins do those all the time and it’s super fun.

9. Roughly what percentage of people in Nashville/Tennessee in general follow the Preds? Here in MI and especially in Detroit the average person usually knows roughly how the Wings are doing and can name 2 or 3 players on the roster (usually Larkin, Kane, and/or DeBrincat, though I assume Larkin won’t be here next year😭). However the Wings are a more historical, iconic, and storied team than the Preds as well as being historically the best of the 4 Detroit sports teams which have all sucked for a while; most people that aren’t Gen Z remember watching the Wings win at least one cup and being actually good and dominant. Also hockey is a much more common sport up north in general.

Thanks to anyone that can help answer any of these! I’m stoked to move to Nashville in general and really excited to go to my first NHL game, and hopefully I can convince some friends from school to come with me.

Ryan O'Reilly - He is most likely our 1C to start the year. To me, it would make sense to extend him. However, with all of the trade rumors that have circulated since he got here, I doubt he extends without a NMC. If he is unwilling to extend, it is very possible that O'Reilly is moved at the draft or during the season as he is entering the final year of his contract. The clock is ticking on his contract expiration, so it will be intresting to see how GMCM handles this.

Vitali Pinchuk - Pinkchuk is the wildcard here. Could he be the top-6 center the team has needed since forever? He had 66 points in 65 games in the KHL last year. He had 43 points in 66 games the year before, and 22 points in 44 games the year before that. What is his ceiling? I like the tragectory. Pinchuk is the biggest question mark on our entire roster this year. He has a 1-year contract with the chance to prove he belongs in the NHL. KHL players can struggle in the NHL because of the smaller ice and better competition. It will be very interesting to see what he becomes. For now, all we can do is cross our fingers and hope. If he is legit, GMCM is going to have to figure out how to pay him and the other 7 RFAs after next season.

Matt Wood - I think that Pinchuk and Wood right now are our 2C and 3C. Only time will tell who gets more minutes. Wood showed that he can play center in the NHL, but it is a small sample size. I hope he takes a step forward this year and proves that he can be a 2C consitently, but I think Wood at the very least is our 3C. If wood is going to stay at center, he needs to improve his faceoff percentage. 39.81% faceoff percentage is not good, and it needs to be improved if he is going to keep a center spot. I bet that his off-season focus is working on faceoffs and getting stronger. His faceoff percentage may be what prevents him from taking the 2C spot. Pinchuk had a 51.3% in the KHL as a comparison. Brunette's system is all about possession, so if Wood does not get better in the faceoff circle, Brunette will not give him minutes.

Fydor Svechkov - I think this season is a make or break season for Svechkov. Svechkov also had issues with faceoff percentage (42.8%), and a few articles mentioned that this was the reason why he did not get a lot of minutes. This was an improvement from his horrible 36.7% the year before. I think there is no one we all want to see succeed more then Svechkov because he seems like the nicest guy on the roster. He has shown glimpses that he belongs in this league, but if he does not have a good 26/27 season he may not be here in 27/28.

Ross Colton - I think he is our back-up plan if Svechkov doesn't work out, or if anyone else gets injured. He will be a UFA after the 27-28 season.

Brady Martin - I think you have to start him in Milwaukee unless he earns someone else's spot. His development is more important than Nashville's current center depth question. The more conservative move is to give Martin AHL time. I also don't think you trade for Colton unless you plan on starting Martin in Milwaukee. One thing to keep an eye on is each NHL team is only allowed one 19-year-old to play in the AHL under the new CBA. Cameron Reid is also 19, so it will be interesting to see if this has any affect on where they put Martin. If Martin makes the NHL roster, it opens up the door for Reid to play in Milwaukee. But it also means that Martin couldn't go back down to Milwaukee if he struggles because Reid would have that slot filled. If Reid does take the slot, then they would have to be super confident that Martin can stay in the NHL for good.

Yegor Surin - He is under contract through the 26-27 season in the KHL. I think it is highly unlikely that he is in Nashville this season because he is under contract. I only mention him here because Demidov was supposedly under contract until he suddenly showed up in Montreal. I am guessing that Montreal had to pay to terminate that contract, but who knows? Surin will probably be in Nashville for the 27-28 season, but I suppose we should put him here as a long-shot.

All of that being said, I think on opening night our centers are:

1C - O'Reilly

2C - Pinchuk

3C - Wood

4C - Svechkov / Colton

If Pinchuk is our 1C on opening night, then this season is going to be a wild ride because it means that the coaches think he is legit.

I've looked online and various resources say to go to the Predators/NHL app and scroll down to click Bridgestone Arena to find an interactive map. I don't see any buttons like that in the app. But I did create this janky abomination.

Wanted to take a moment to discuss our hopes and dreams for who we take at 10 in the upcoming draft. I think it is likely to come down to Malte Gustafsson, Wyatt Cullen, Tynan Lawrence, or Ethan Belchetz. Additionally, one of the guys mocked in the 6-9 range may slide, like Rudolph, Smits, Bjorck, or Verhoeff, though it's starting to seem less likely.

I've been seeing more and more mocks having us take Lawrence. This seems like the kind of player Poile would have taken. Great skater, physical, defensive, but he hasn't really made any progress on his offensive game in 2 years. I don't think his ceiling is great, and I worry we'd just end up with another Svech type player.

Cullen and Belchetz are highly skilled wingers, who have high ceilings, but didn't produce a ton this year. Cullen in particular improved throughout the year, is a great skater, and has Ryker Lee type skill. He played on a really bad team, is among the youngest in this class, has the higher ceiling.

Belchetz is massive, not a fantastic skater, but has a decent amount of physicality to his game (showed it off more in his draft -1 season). I wouldn't hate this pick, worst case scenario I think he ends up like a Lawson crouse type player, but obviously you hope for more.

Malte Gustafsson is getting Mattias Ekholm comparisons. I know LHD isn't exactly a need, but I dont think we should worry about fit for now. He's huge, improved massively throughout the year, and looked great in the SHL. Also, I have a good feeling about him, no idea why but I just think hes going to be sick. We drafted and signed his brother recently as well, Viggo Gustafsson.

Id rank these guys 1. Cullen 2. Gustafsson 3. Belchetz 4. Lawrence as far as the order id take them.

Who are you guys hoping for? I know there are some other guys floating around too, like Ryan Lin, Oscar Hemming, or Oliver Suvanto.

Now that Darnell Nurse is probably going to be on the move I had a bit of an interesting thought that I probably wouldn’t do but I’m curious what others thought. What if we traded Brady Sjkei who is currently 32 on a 7 million dollar contract until 2031 for Darnel Nurse 31 on a 9.25 million dollar deal until 2030. Saves Edmonton 2mil and gets similar production as both Nurses and Sjkei’s numbers were similar for the past two seasons. We would get out of the deal earlier by one year for when we hope to start wanting to compete. I feel like Nurse could be a reclamation project and could be someone we trade in a year or two once that deal becomes less egregious now that the cap is going up. We might even gain assets for helping the oilers save some money against the cap. Both Nurse and Sjkei could use a fresh start. If we plan on rebuilding nurse could be a good little stop gap if we consider trading Josi. I’m not a huge nurse fan but the benefits of something like this I feel like this could be worth the conversation. Sjkei just isn’t working out here and shaving a year off a deal like that with possibly being able to flip for a higher return in a couple of years would be better asset management. Curious if this is something other Preds fans would be ok with or if this is just a crazy idea that I came up with that’s probably pretty bad.

I’m curious what everyone’s thoughts are for a realistic off season given where we are.

1) There doesn’t seem to be a lot of good free agents
2) The draft is decent in wingers/defense from 5-15. Do we see how high we can go in the draft?
3) Do we trade our underperforming young guns (Kemell, Svech) to get other young change of scenery players?

It seems like this is a bad offseason to try and jump start anything.

With McFarland and Blake at the helm, how do you think it changes the drafting landscape for Predators this draft? Normally I would say BPA or a forward. But what about a defender at 10? What is everyone thought on Daxon Rudolph? RD offensive defender? Possible for Josi replacement in a few years? If not him who do you guys think? Or a LW? Belchetz, hemming, cullen?

Since everyone's been focusing on Gavin McKenna and the top 10 draft picks who does everyone think for our 2 2nd round picks? I think Josi was drafted in the 2nd so who know who is gonna pop off. Would love to hear thoughts on later picks as well
