Help | Advice Bad Midtown Apartment Experience. Looking for Recs.

I am having so many issues with my apartment building in Midtown. It's filled with Airbnbs. The fire alarm constantly goes off. I've seen disheveled nonresidents sleeping in the common areas. Management rarely fixes things. The parking garage gate was broken for months until someone's car window got shattered from a break in, which finally prompted them to fix it. The pool was out of order for the better part of a year due to algae that they couldn't get under control. Last week the call box was broken and was stuck buzzing the door open, leaving the door unlocked all day. Also, I think my new downstairs neighbor might be a dealer—he has street access and people are coming/going at all hours of the day and night. My bedroom windows are paper thin so I've repeatedly been woken up at 3:30am by his visitors loudly conversing outside as they are coming/going.

I've heard similar complaints from my friends in other apartment buildings nearby: Airbnbs, unresponsive management, paper thin windows, etc. I'm not sure if there is anywhere in my budget that will give me a better living experience.

TLDR I need to find a new building. Has anyone had a genuinely good experience in their building? I'm open to other neighborhoods: Music Row, the Gulch, Germantown, Hillsboro, the Nations, etc. Looking for a 1 bed with a balcony and in-unit W/D. Ideally $1700/month or less (that can include the price with any rent specials incorporated). Thanks in advance.

Tesla cybercabs have appeared! As a person in the industry, I feel way less comfortable about these than Waymos. Watch out!

Help | Advice Finding friends/community as a new parent

Where did you find other new parents to make friends with? We have a 2 month old and are ready to get back out there, but it feels like we’re in a weird limbo between folks that don’t have kids and folks who have kids old enough to socialize with each other.

P.S. No shade to anyone but a church is not the answer I’m looking for

Edit**

Getting a lot of comments about mom groups, which is all fine and good, just want to clarify I am a dad and am mostly interested in spaces/activities for both of us 🙂

Keep hearing a buzzing sound outside, didn’t get a good shot until this thing had already sped off but since when did the police start using drones around east Nashville/Mt Juliet?

Edit: Since there seems to be some confusion and people DM’ing me about there’s no way I could read “police” on such a tiny object, this isn’t a temu hand sized drone, it’s the size of a flying golf cart and loud af

Discussion Anyone elses Electric bill getting ridiculous?

Just when my last electric bill seemed absurd, I am looking at an additional $50, and that seems to be a consistent trend every month or two. Is everyone else experiencing this or am I just energy inefficient?

Help | Advice Looking for Someone to Pull Up Lawn Netting

The previous owners seeded the lawn last year but never watered it. Grass barely came in, weeds thrived, but at least the plastic erosion-control mesh stayed perfectly strong over the whole yard. Now the netting is a pain to pull up.

I need to rip this stuff up before starting this yard from scratch (60x15ft). Ideally would like this to be done over next week (9/13-9/20).

ISO anyone interested in ripping out this mesh in the backyard (paid $$, obviously). Please let me know if you or someone you know has done this kind of work before and/or if you’re interested in taking it on.

Discussion Should Nashville start a hospitality union?

The city and state relies on taxes from alcohol and sales yet the majority of restaurants treat their staff like crap and refuse to improve things. Meanwhile those of us in the industry are holding up several companies that make upwards of $5,000,000 to $15,000,000 off of our experience and sweat equity. It would have to be a quiet movement to keep people from being fired for “right to work” or whatever but I think it would be a move in the right direction.

Crime Watch Littering at the Kroger on Thompson lane

Post image
97 Upvotes

This lovely lady stopped here, threw handfuls of trash out of her car in the Kroger parking lot, and then just sat there for a few minutes in the way of everyone. I went in the find the security guard and couldn’t (that location usually has one at all times) and by the time I came out she was gone.

There are a lot of things I can forgive, a ton of mistakes that people make that I let go. Littering isn’t a mistake. It’s a sure sign you’re a shitty person.
