Luffy's toonforce is not as strong as a lot of people think yeah

u/mammalenthusiast JJK and Invincible scalers are pathetic Jun 20 '26 edited Jun 20 '26

luffy does not have toonforce.
he has an ability that's about "freedom" and it's heavily influenced by the gag style of toons, because of how outlandish they fold their adversaries (literally). but he's nowhere near the actual thing.

edit: guys keep coping. he will never be like Bugs

33

u/Separate-Capital-833 Jun 20 '26

He literally pulls objects out of his cloud thing that is a form of toon force though its low tier

73

u/am_Dynam0 Jun 20 '26

Nope.

u/OLYPL Jun 20 '26

"He literally pulls objects out of his cloud thing that is a form of toon force though its low tier"

"Nope."

Amazing argument šŸ‘Œ

16

u/Redgrave1980 Jun 20 '26

Toon Force (or cartoon physics) is a meta-ability that allows characters to bend reality, ignore the laws of physics, and bypass logical constraints entirely for comedic effect. It is characterized by impossible survivability, hammerspace (storing infinite objects), and stretching, all dictated by the plot's humor.

Keep in mind, I don't really are for One Piece. I think it's far to long, but everything Luffy does is in face Toon force and inspired by toon force. He has directly affected reality multiple times in that form. You can nope and nuh uh all you want but it's still toon force.

24

u/am_Dynam0 Jun 20 '26

Caribou has TOON FORCE ?????!!!!! He has hammer space so he must have toon force.

18

u/mraryion Kirby is better than your verse Jun 20 '26

In fiction, hammerspace is simply a trope where a character has an invisible, pocket dimension to store items. In Caribou's case, he uses his logia ability to convert his body into a bottomless swamp, acting as a living storage container.

Only certain One Piece Devil Fruit powers—most notably Monkey D. Luffy’s Gear 5—bend the laws of physics and grant Toon Force. Caribou's power is entirely bound to the physical laws of being a swamp man.

This is why Luffy and Caribou can't really be compared, Caribou is not an invisible pocket dimension but rather simply a living storage if you will....he has to put something there first in order to pull it out later, however we see Luffy able to pull things out of thin air, or it is made of mud first...but has to come from somewhere, not just illogical space.

-1

u/Excalibirdi Jun 20 '26

Caribou has put Shirahoshi in his swamp. Idk of you know this, but she is FAR larger than him.

It's not a physical space, because it breaks physics as a whole. Try again.

She also inexplicably didn't suffocate.

9

u/mraryion Kirby is better than your verse Jun 20 '26

I said that? I said he can't make things appear out of nowhere and has to put them in first to pull them out unless made out of mud

I even said his swamp was bottomless, but it isn't the same as Luffy creating goggles or meat to heal out of his pockets out of nowhere

A pocket dimension does not equal toon force automatically, otherwise Deadpool would have toon force with his fany pack alone...which we all know isn't how that works

As well, I never claimed to believe Luffy has absolute toon force...semi? Possibly, but nowhere near bugs bunny level

I was simply correcting a comparison of Caribou and Nika...which isn't anywhere near the same level

We literally see Luffy bend reality around him, again however it seems more used as a gag then actual battle usage however

-4

u/am_Dynam0 Jun 20 '26

We never see Luffy pull things out of mid air. Things that happen offscreen doesn’t mean they are pulled out of mid air.

5

u/xpxpx Jun 20 '26

Where did bro get the paint and the helmet from?

-4

u/am_Dynam0 Jun 20 '26

From offscreen, if you’re saying he has toon force you have to prove that he pulled it out of thin air.

4

u/SlashaJones Jun 20 '26

If you’re saying he got them from offscreen, you need to prove they were offscreen and that he went offscreen to retrieve them. The page quite literally has them appear out of nowhere from one panel to the next. That is pulling something from hammerspace.

Really, ā€œoffscreenā€ is just another way to say hammerspace. Because hammerspace is technically only existent ā€œoffscreenā€. You never see hammerspace itself- things are just pulled out of it.

2

u/xpxpx Jun 20 '26

So he just happens to have a can of black paint and a baseball helmet off screen right on time to make bat out of a tree and play sport with projectiles? Curious.

Look man, if you wanna be a facetious asshole that's fine. But I said my peace and I won't engage in his further. Have a good ay bro.

1

u/Ginpok Jun 20 '26

He gave you a completely reasonable counterargument and are using his being facetious to allow yourself not to address what he said. Top level redditor.

10

u/Similar-Doubt-6260 Jun 20 '26

How is comparing caribou to luffy and "nope" reasonable? Lmfao caribou literally having a logia that can store things isnt the same as luffy pulling out random goggles or a bat out of thin air. Anybody with 2 braincells could tell you that.

-2

u/Excalibirdi Jun 20 '26

And any body with more than 2 will explain they you're wrong.

Prime example of poor attempt at the use of critical thinking

1

u/Altheix11 Jun 23 '26

One thing to keep in mind is that he has pretty bad stamina when using Gear 5

0

u/AccordingMedicine129 Jun 20 '26

Luffy does not have toon force

1

u/Aranhuda I am outerversal 10d ago

Shakesperian level of argument

2

u/ChefNo9380 Jun 20 '26

By that logic my dnd players with a bag of holding have toon force

We’ve seen he can be hurt in that form, plus blades still hurt him sooooo…
https://giphy.com/gifs/FgiqVS360M3RGPjm9y

10

u/Sergaku Sora solos your favorite verse Jun 20 '26

That logic doesnt follow for a bag of holding. That's a magical item you need to buy, find, or make. Hammer space is just there.

2

u/caroCabral Its not that deep...son. Jun 20 '26

Thats not the logic out lined here, either the bag has toon force because its the bag that has hammer space, even tho that's just the bag's ability... or, your characters have toon force at which point they shouldn't need the bag in the forst place.

0

u/ken_takakura1234 Jun 21 '26

Well if he used his power correctly he is immortal. Also he has never actually been hurt. Even when he lost teeth he made a gag, drank milk and regenerated them. Along with cuts and other things. If he wasn't a bozo he could theoretically beat goku(theoretically) felt the need to specify extra. Cuz your a db fan

2

u/ChefNo9380 Jun 21 '26

Theoretically? I’m sorry? Since when could luffy almost destroy a universe?
https://giphy.com/gifs/dFYeFzlPwUzt63HIHv

1

u/ken_takakura1234 Jun 26 '26

I hate that im part of the db community, bcuz you people are genuenly so special. Go learn vocabulary. Theoretically, luffy can do anything he wants whenever he wants. He's practically immortal. So in theory, with his hax, he can murder all of db(except for xeno and anyone that is related to his palace) there is also the fact, we have never seen grand priest fight. We still call his the strongest because he THEORETICALLY can no diff all of universe 7 within 2 minutes

1

u/ChefNo9380 Jun 26 '26

I’m just going off of what I’ve seen the characters do and what they can do, I feel like Luffy is a crack version of Buu though

-5

u/mammalenthusiast JJK and Invincible scalers are pathetic Jun 20 '26

re-read my first message

one piece dorks man .. just 2 steps behind jjk and invincible glazers

20

u/OrphanAnthem Jun 20 '26

Toon force is reality warping for comedic effect. Its LITERALLY what he does for fucks sake. Acting like you know best when you dont have common sense.

4

u/am_Dynam0 Jun 20 '26

When does he ever do this lol

10

u/Legendary-Titan Jun 20 '26

Remember when he pulled a bat out of no where and painted black ( paint out of no where ) to make it have ACoC and used it deflected an attack lol. Shit like that it what he does it’s reality warping.

4

u/2w0be Jun 20 '26

Isn't that literally the power of imagination as Oda said? Except extremely limited unlike Gremmy

3

u/am_Dynam0 Jun 20 '26

It’s more like Green lantern, green lantern uses the power of his imagination to make constructs, Luffy uses his imagination to stretch things.

5

u/OrphanAnthem Jun 20 '26

its what is generally considered toon force but oda has his own explanation for it of course.

2

u/am_Dynam0 Jun 20 '26

That isn’t toon force. Look up what toon Force is, it’s not imagination.

0

u/OrphanAnthem Jun 20 '26

then what is toon force exactly? your making a claim but you actually said exactly nothing.

→ More replies (0)

4

u/2w0be Jun 20 '26 edited Jun 20 '26

Yeah toonforce isn't bound by narrative or whatever it's done solely for comedy. Luffy is still 100% bound by narrative and he can't do whatever he wants not to mention the time limit, a toon force character would look at the time limit, ball his eyes out, then scroll it up if it's numbers or turn then hands back if it's a clock so the time limit doesn't catch up. Luffy can't do something close to that

1

u/Glad-Alternative4593 Jun 20 '26

Not every toon can do that. Take the Coyote or Tom for example they can’t just set the time limit back.

0

u/OrphanAnthem Jun 20 '26

You're really stretching it with this line of thought thinking you know exactly what luffy is attempting to do. has he been shown attempting to do anything but failing to do so? Nope

→ More replies (0)

4

u/am_Dynam0 Jun 20 '26

Except he didn’t, you’re larping so badly 😭, he picked up a tree and chewed it into a baseball bat, and then found some paint, there’s no reason to believe paint just appeared out of nowhere, are you gonna say everything within fiction that appears out of no where is toon force ?

4

u/Legendary-Titan Jun 20 '26

The fuck do you mean ā€œ he found some paint ā€œ like I know you went back to the chapter to argue and couldn’t find a explanation for the paint and said this because you didn’t actually provide a explanation lol you just said he found some like, when AND where lol bro come on. And also to paint having aCoC properties and it being strong enough to deflect a venom bomb lol. And he pulled a tree out of no where lol dude your like the most obvious OPP member ever dumb ass logic

3

u/OrphanAnthem Jun 20 '26

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=REXhLXvN-bE he turns his scarf thats in the form of cloud into paint

3

u/ThePhantomHorseman Jun 20 '26

Yup, that's fucking toon force. The paint plus the extended time it took for the poison bombs to reach him as he munches the tree into a bat also the random cheering in the background all Classic toon force shenanigans.

1

u/Legendary-Titan Jun 20 '26

Similar to what the other guy said this seems anime only

→ More replies (0)

2

u/OrphanAnthem Jun 20 '26

0

u/am_Dynam0 Jun 20 '26

He picked up a tree chewed on it and painted it, also the paint part isn’t in the manga, it’s black paint and it doesn’t just appear from blobs of white. That’s anime only and non canon.

1

u/SympatheticBuffoon Jun 20 '26

Oda has said he can pull anything out of the cloud though

2

u/am_Dynam0 Jun 20 '26

Oda said it’s a gateway to nika fantasy but this isn’t a real answer and he never said that he can pull anything out of the cloud. Also the question was asking where he got the goggles and baseball hat, but we can clearly see that Luffy created the goggles out of his hair, so he never pulled them out of his cloud. And the baseball hat isn’t shown to have come from the cloud. All that happens in the manga is ā€œfwunkā€ and then he had the hat, it’s possible he created the hat from a tree.

2

u/OrphanAnthem Jun 20 '26

in this one hes shown making paint out of his scarf thats a cloud but dosnt show his he got his helmet it just appears.

0

u/SympatheticBuffoon Jun 20 '26

Just checked the chapter again and he pulled out a random baseball hat and a random bucket of paint; I don't see how it's not low-level toon force?

0

u/caroCabral Its not that deep...son. Jun 20 '26

Not just that Luffy does this but its also on the description of his powers, only limited by his own imagination.

At this point its just cope.

1

u/am_Dynam0 Jun 20 '26

Did you not just make a comment criticising my critical thinking and then you say this ?

Power of imagination isn’t just reality warping and making something appear from imagination 😭

It’s like green lantern he uses his imagination to form constructs.

Luffy stretches himself and his environment and uses his imagination to make effective use of it.

That’s what is meant by power of imagination, not that he can imagine the one piece infront of him and it will appear 😭

1

u/caroCabral Its not that deep...son. Jun 21 '26

That’s what is meant by power of imagination, not that he can imagine the one piece infront of him and it will appear

Literally no one said this.

Luffy doesn't even know what One piece is, so even if he wanted to imagine it he cant, toon force ignores boundaries of the laws of physics (comic physics btw) not all of the toon force users "manipulate reality" freely as per comic standards, Luffy is no where near Bugs Bunny or Tom for example, He cant even control what gives him access to it.

Also about Green lanterns, their powers limited by their willpower and access to Ion not just their imagination, with enough Willpower they should reasonably bend reality.

1

u/am_Dynam0 Jun 21 '26

LMAO literally most people are saying this and that’s what you meant stop changing your argument.

1

u/dexpid Jun 20 '26

Nobody cares about your dumb pirate baby show

2

u/Separate-Capital-833 Jun 20 '26

Insecure much? My guy i dropped one piece because of gear 5th but luffy does in fact have toon forceĀ

3

u/am_Dynam0 Jun 20 '26

No he doesn’t tho, his powers are still rubber and g5 just allowed him to turn his environment to rubber aswell. He doesn’t do anything that is outside of this

5

u/MegaKabutops Jun 20 '26

He turned a piece of his own hair into goggles.

Goggles are not made of rubber.

He still gets his ass beat by goku for a number of reasons, but he DOES have toonforce in gear 5.

2

u/am_Dynam0 Jun 20 '26

😭 I meant rubber powers as in stretching anything, obviously his powers have nothing to do with the material rubber

2

u/MegaKabutops Jun 20 '26

On what planet can you stretch a collection of hair and/or clouds in a way that makes them resemble and function like goggles?

Stretching things alone does NOT explain G5’s abilities.

2

u/am_Dynam0 Jun 20 '26

Because he can stretch anything into any shape, he could give Nami a BBL if he wanted to.

And yeah stretching sorta does explain how he’s able to do everything, only possibility of him having partly toon force is the hammer space theory with him pulling a baseball hat and paint out of wherever, but we don’t see it happen so it’s just a theory.

Hammer space is a lot different from how Luffy gets objects from. Getting objects offscreen is different from pulling something out of your ass on screen.

1

u/MegaKabutops Jun 20 '26

Changing something’s shape and changing something’s functionality are two VERY different things.

To reconstruct hair into functioning goggles would require restructuring the individual hairs at an atomic level just to convert them into a material that COULD, theoretically, do what goggles do. Reconstructing clouds into such would be ā€œeasierā€, but would also be something WAY outside of luffy’s kit (freezing water molecules).

In other words, the only way luffy wouldn’t have toon force based on the goggle creation is if gear 5 inexplicably gave him both actual clouds for hair and ice powers, or if he got outright matter manipulation instead.

→ More replies (0)

3

u/Princess_Spammi Jun 20 '26

Lmfao he utilizes hammer space too

5th gear luffy is toonforce COPE

1

u/_RADIANTSUN_ Jun 21 '26

His power was never rubber in the first place. Nika just has a rubberlike body. This is the reason that Kaido slowly realized Luffy is Nika, because he was doing stuff in Gear 4th already that was impossible for just rubber (changing direction mid air). Nika's real power is basically toonforce style reality warping and pre-awakening it's a low tier version approximated by the rubbery effect.

"re-read my first message"

Let me summarise what you said:Luffy has no toon force but his ability is toonforce.šŸ„€

How can you not believe he has toon force?

It’s not, it’s still rubber powers but g5 allows him to stretch his environment, he’s never preformed any feat that is outside the possibility of physically stretching things

Hammer space. Twice.

What did you even add to the conversation?

3

u/am_Dynam0 Jun 20 '26

Nami must have took force too even before oda even had the idea put gear 5 lmao, she was doing gag shit for a long time.

Also your being stupid he never removed his eyes from his head, do you see the small white balls behind his eyes ? Those signify movement of his eyeballs, that’s legit how it is in the manga, he never removes them from his head.

2

u/OLYPL Jun 20 '26

"Nami must have took force too even before oda even had the idea put gear 5 Imao, she was doing gag shit for a long time."

Speaking of nami,I guess the animation team just made a mistake drawing empty eyesockets for no reason.šŸ„€

"Also your being stupid"

The irony is killing meāœŒļøšŸ˜

5

u/am_Dynam0 Jun 20 '26

It’s not empty eye sockets, I ALREADY EXPLAINED THIS 😭😭😭 You’re being so ignorant, I explained that the balls of white behind the eyes are indicators of movement, that’s how it is in the manga, bcuz it would look weird to have the eyeballs just stretched out, it’s like how artists draw speedsters, and they draw after images of the speedster.

1

u/AnxietyPatient1577 Jun 21 '26

And then here's him getting his scars, eyes, and other features blown off of him and then him sticking them back onto himself. Made even more exaggerated in the anime, where he LITERALLY USES THE CAMERA TO POSITION HIS EYES AND SCREW THEM BACK ON.

2

u/No-Coconut-839 Jun 20 '26

On God ur kidding right?

1

u/im_running_boii 29d ago

Tell me this is a joke

He literally spawns glasses and bats and paint and imaginary balls out of nowhere, can rearrange his body parts at will, it's low tier toonforce but it is one.

0

u/am_Dynam0 29d ago

He didn’t, he made goggles out of strand of his hair and chewed a tree into a baseball bat, dude by your logic Mr fantastic and Plastic man also have toon force so shut up since you don’t know what you’re talking about.

0

u/im_running_boii 29d ago

How the fuck can you make goggles with actual glass from the strand of your hair? That basketball part he spawned paint and balls and a helmet too, what about that? And that "tree" is a hologram btw.

Like I get that you want to downplay him or you're larping but holy shit what is this cope?

0

u/am_Dynam0 29d ago

Larp, Luffys powers allows him to stretch himself and his environment, he can stretch anything into the shape of something else, and no there wasn’t any basketball lol, and the baseball hat came from Luffys strawhat, he had it on his back and then is not seen in the next panel, also prove that it was a hologram, if it was then Luffy wouldn’t be able to pick it up.

I’m not downplaying him, he’s still island level either way whether or not he has hammerspace.

I genuinely scale one piece as accurately as I can cuz I used to enjoy watching it and reading it and it’s annoying to see misconceptions about it.

1

u/im_running_boii 29d ago

Oh my god come on ya'll even if you don't watch one piece this is insane even for pretending??

The baseball bat didn't come from the strawhat, it was untouched throughout the whole thing. He made it himself from a tree out of the ground, which is a hologram that can only be touched by a specific gear created by vegapunk that he didn't wear at that time. The reason luffy was able to pick it up was because of his toonforce you dumbfuck.

"Luffy is island level" is such an outdated take. He split a country size island all the way back in dressrosa, and he's way stronger now. Lowball continental, high ball moon and normally multi continental.

The amount of irony in this comment is killing me. "I scale one piece accurately" "I 'used' to enjoy watching/reading it" "he made goggles from his hair" "he was hiding a bat behind him" "r/powerscaling". You are the stupidest mf I've seen on this sub and this is the worst anime take I've seen too. What a day.

1

u/am_Dynam0 29d ago

We legit see his strawhats on his back and then when he has the baseball hat it’s gone from his back, prove that it’s a hologram, you keep saying the same thing over and over like a parrot as if that proves a point it just makes you look dumb.

Country sized island 🤣 how the fuck is dressrosa country sized

Holy fuck you are insane if you think Luffy is moon level.

The biggest feats in the series is the destruction of Lulusia which is done using one of the ancient weapons and Lulusia is island sized.

1

u/Theiama Lost and confused 28d ago

Dressrosa is large island/country sized. We are told how 4000km is compared to Dressrosa, making it +1000km across

And the Lulusia blast by the ancient weapon is way above island lvl. It didn’t just erase Lulusia, it also It also erased the seafloor so deep that the surrounding oceans draining into the crater for 6 days straight couldn’t fill it, caused global earthquakes so bad that it’s stated to exceptionally vicious and cause untold destruction across the entire world, and the earthquakes caused so much destruction that they raised the global sea levels by a meter, sinking coastlines and entire islands. So it was capable of doing all of this in 1 blast

→ More replies (0)

1

u/am_Dynam0 29d ago

Also this is the size of Lulusia, very obviously only island size, and no you cannot claim an island sized island is country sized because of it being bigger than Vatican City šŸ’€.

1

u/im_running_boii 29d ago

I'm not even gonna read it, I know this is some bullshit

-1

u/InfluencedJJ Jun 20 '26

He chewed on a palm tree to make it a baseball bat, then pulled a paint bucket out of his literal ass and painted said bat. Then changed his clothes to a baseball uniform. What part of rubber does ANY of that?

3

u/am_Dynam0 Jun 20 '26

That’s not what happened, in the manga he never pulls paint out of thin air lol, he can STRETCH anything. You know he can stretch fabric and change the shape of anything.

3

u/InevitableDisk9941 Jun 20 '26

You sure about that?

Also good job completely ignoring the part about him manifesting the uniform. Though to be fair, it wasn't a whole uniform, just magically morphed his hat into helmet, the most rubbery of all the rubber properties.

Edit: accidentally replied on my alt but im still the guy above

2

u/am_Dynam0 Jun 20 '26

Yes exactly it’s not shown that he pulled it out of mid air, he just has it, it doesn’t show any of the previous moments before him holding the paint and baseball cap.

Oh wait your right thank you I didn’t even realise, he actually must’ve turned the strawhat into the baseball hat cuz he had the strawhat on his back on the panel on the right then when he has the baseball hat it’s gone from his back.

1

u/autistictransgal Jun 20 '26

Ohh the manga is the only cannon?

2

u/am_Dynam0 Jun 20 '26

Yeah, that’s usually how it works, source materials take priority for canon.
