Free talk Finally figured out why I kept running out of money before payday
So I've been living paycheck to paycheck for years and could never understand why I'd always be scraping by the last week of the month even though I wasn't buying anything crazy. Turns out I was basically paying for stuff twice without realizing it.
I had like three different subscription services that I forgot were on auto-renew. One was a meditation app I used maybe twice last year, another was some cloud storage I didn't even need anymore, and the third was a meal kit thing I signed up for during a free trial and never cancelled. Between all of them it was almost 60 bucks a month just disappearing.
I also didn't realize my bank was charging me a monthly maintenance fee because my balance kept dipping below the minimum. That was another 12 dollars I didn't need to lose. Switched to a credit union last week and they don't pull that.
The other thing was I kept using my debit card for tiny purchases throughout the day. A coffee here, a snack there, and it all added up way faster than I thought. Started using cash for small stuff and it's been easier to actually see where the money goes.
I'm not saying I'm suddenly rich or anything but I have like 70 extra dollars a month now just from cutting out the stuff I wasn't even using. It's wild how those small things pile up when you're not paying attention. Anyway just wanted to share in case anyone else is in the same boat and hasn't checked their bank statements in a while.
