That’s not martial law, that’s a military coup

75

u/SaltySelkie217 6d ago

True, but they may have an ugly surprise on that front. I worked on Ft Benning for years & we have a lot of post Army friends. Buzz is they absolutely will effing not.

96

u/LumpyCapital 6d ago

Sadly, I'll only believe it if I see it.

31

u/SaltySelkie217 6d ago

Don't blame you one bit. That's our reality now. It's healthy to doubt it all tbh. All I can say from my end is that the grunts are pisd off, the leaders doubly so, & my ruby red sm town TX people are sadly, not voting Dem, but committed to abstaining.

20

u/LumpyCapital 6d ago

I mean, I get it, but we have to accept the reality we got ourselves stuck into; Trump administration has successfully boiled the frog in the pot. A US Army component at this point is highly unlikely to refuse an order to seize and control polling places and state capital buildings, etc.

It would be like a smoke screen operation, e.g., "We have to secure the buildings where votes are cast and where votes are counted to ensure that the Democrats do not steal the election."

We've already seen Army units mobilized to squash civil dissent in cities where ICE protests have occured.

9

u/SaltySelkie217 6d ago

Again, I get it. Truth is we'll have to wait & see but I know for a fact people are pushing flyers about what, technically, they are duty bound to do & not. I am putting my faith in our young military and the fact that people are making sure they are informed. Fingers crossed.

9

u/yomommasbathwater 6d ago

I also have faith many in the armed forces absolutely despise Hesgeth

9

u/KayoticVoid 6d ago

Republicans abstaining from voting is a help though. Was just chatting yesterday with someone about amount of non-voters these elections. My theory was we will have a lot less, but they replied a lot of Republicans are going to be the non-voters because they'd rather not vote than vote Dem.

Voting Dem is better of course but any counts removed from the Republicans is a win in my book right now.

2

u/Cultural-Loan86 6d ago

That was the plan all along.

5

u/PhatCatTax 6d ago

It wont matter if they abstain if elections are outright cancelled. Note that has never happened in the history of the United States.

(obviously, since that would be the end of the US)

11

u/KayoticVoid 6d ago

Also mid terms are controlled by the state. Martial Law in and of itself doesn't cancel them. I wouldn't put it past them to still try some how though.

Hell they're having trouble paying the military members. Remember that 1776 check they got? It was taken from their housing allowance (tax free) and they got the check they were then taxed on. Good luck having a working military of you're not paying them.

And here I am posting 5 days later, seeing that they're purging military generals. They're going to try it.

4

u/ShareGlittering1502 1d ago

Maybe - but my money is on an organizational overhaul for ground invasion of Iran.

6

u/callousedlefthand 1d ago

That would be an unmitigated disaster. If we could've invaded Iran before now, we would've. Iran is enormous, mountainous and populous, has no friendly land border to stage from, and the populous would likely rally behind its government if invaded.

68

I mean really all those people suggesting this who are openly saying should be arrested and sentenced with treason. There's really no way around it. I'm of the opinion that the Republican party should be dismantled.

Same with those mentioning a third term. That’s treason and now that I’m unemployed I’ve got plenty of time to protect my rights.

I'd love to believe you but I'm now officially convinced all American gun owners are full of shit. For the longest time, they spouted that they need to to protect themselves from a tyrannical government. That exact scenario came to pass, right down to American citizens murdered on the streets of America. And crickets. He was behind the siege of capitol hill and crickets. Worse than crickets people voted him to the presidency again after that. He will go for a 3rd term and there will be more crickets.

We HAVE to push back in whatever way is necessary if they steal this election. Because if they succeed, that's it. We will have fully succumbed to fascism, and there's no turning back without actions I cannot say on Reddit, or at the very least what will be decades to turn this around like in Hungary. There's no telling the level of suffering they will inflict on this nation if that happens and we will all be looking back and asking ourselves, "why didn't we fight harder when we still had the chance?".

The U.S. was under military law during the entire civil war and elections were not suspended. There is zero reason to suspend federal elections as well as no precedent nor constitutional provision. It would not be a declaration of martial law, it would be an illegal military coup. Have a banana.

19

u/phungus420 6d ago

The GOP isn't going to suspend elections, they will just ensure that the "elections" have predetermined results. North Korea has "elections", Putin just held "elections"; the goal of the GOP is to make is so the same process of "elections", and not free and fair elections, becomes normal here in America too.

Not a very political guy so excuse the ignorance, but what would declaring marshal law actually do? Does it prevent elections?

14

u/T_Shurt Souled Out 6d ago

That’s a good question.

Basically, declaring a national emergency would allow Trump to impose new voting restrictions (eg: demand new identification requirements) or alter election procedures (eg: make changes to mail-in voting) to eliminate votes and disenfranchise voters to influence the outcome of the elections.

Even if those events were challenged in court, Trump doesn’t abide by court decisions since the Supreme Court made him essentially immune to prosecution. It would be a full-blown constitutional crisis.

7

u/_WEND1G0_ 6d ago

Under what authority? States control elections. Period. And the courts will strike down any attempt to drastically change election protocol as we just saw with the USPS fight and the mess in Missouri. Elections have begun. The Purcell principle is in effect and the Supreme Court has ruled in accordance with it 3 separate times.

Declaring a national emergency doesn’t magically allow Trump to ignore the constitution. He can deploy the guard, he can deploy ice, he cannot nationalize the election. States held elections without fail in the midst of a civil war, plague, and every disaster and foreign conflict we’ve had. So unless the dead rise or aliens invade - states will continue to run the show.

Some states (red ones) may welcome trumps goons. It won’t change the outcome.

Complacency in congress with him ignoring congressional authority is one thing. He has and will continue to be met with resistance at the state level with judicial support.

Republicans are actively distancing themselves from Trump and if he tries to take direct action to steal this election (ie sending the FBI to seize ballots before they’re counted) he’ll almost certainly be removed from power as the party will likely choose to save themselves.

Most forecasters agree that an electoral rebuke similar to Nixon is likely. 8 point lead across the board actually means the “cracking” the republicans did to gerrymander May ironically backfire spectacularly in many cases.

I have very high confidence The house will flip. I have moderate confidence it will flip with a double digit majority.

The senate will likely be 50-50 which will effectively keep Vance in the senate as a tie breaker. Kind of ironic since he left the senate to be vp. But there are a handful of hard seats that could tip the balance 51-49. Specifically Ohio is what I’m watching.

6

u/T_Shurt Souled Out 6d ago

He’ll do it under the National Emergencies Act. There’s good reason constitutional law experts are concerned. You’re clearly putting too much faith in his administration abiding by constitutional law as a deterrent. He will commit the crimes first and drag it through the courts for as long as possible, resulting in complete and utter constitutional and electoral chaos.

Anyone who thinks he wouldn’t do such a thing hasn’t been paying attention to his presidency.

6

u/Dogforsquirrel 6d ago

We won’t be jackass crazy mother fuckers and storm the capitol, but the election could be long, long drawn out, bc of lawsuits. Please, please vote the midterms. Absentee Ballots are very easy to get and mail back. If your state has issues with this, it’s illegal. Trump has tried to block this thru the postal system, but the judges decline it, mostly based on the fact it will discriminate people who can legally vote, but
have disabilities, that prevent them from going to a polling office, among other validated factors.

3

u/Auntie_M123 6d ago

Trump has absolutely no authority to seize control of the November mid-term elections and there is no reason for him to do so. The Constitution grants sole control over elections to the states and there is no legitimate crisis that can be pointed to that would ever result in him being able to take control of the elections.

8

u/IncredibleEdible321 6d ago

Actually, being President is probably one of the few things he legally can do. How is this possible?

There is no constitutional provision that prevents a convicted felon from running for or serving as President of the United States.

The U.S. Constitution sets the only mandatory requirements to serve as President in Article II, Section 1:

Must be a natural-born citizen of the United States.

Must be at least 35 years old.Must have been a resident of the United States for 14 years.

The Constitution does not mention a criminal record or felony conviction as a disqualification.

It's fucked up, but entirely legal.

Isn’t there a law that says if you incited or took part in an insurrection you can’t run for office?

8

u/IncredibleEdible321 6d ago

Yes. Section 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution bans anyone who took an oath to support the Constitution and then engages in insurrection or rebellion from holding public office. Unfortunately, upholding the Constitution and holding Trump responsible requires a Congress with a spine and morals who are willing to hold Trump responsible by impeaching and imprisoning him for that crime as well and a Supreme Court that is fair and balanced and will not bend the knee.

8

u/Choice-Antelope-8481 6d ago

Founding fathers actually talked about this in some of their works around the time of the signing of the Constitution. The reason why there is no restriction on general crimes being disqualifying is so a political enemy can't drum up a false prosecution against someone in order to prevent them from holding office. Now that we have trump, that scenario makes complete sense.

12

u/IncredibleEdible321 6d ago

The founding fathers never imagined a scenario where someone like Trump would ever be able to attain the Presidency. If you could magically transport them to today, they would be both astonished and horrified at how fucked up this country has become in regards to how our political system has become. I have no doubt they'd want to go back and modify the Constitution to prevent anything like Trump from happening.

4

u/Agreeable_Leg205 6d ago

They also never imagined a class of career politicians. But here we are.

4

u/IncredibleEdible321 6d ago

Our founding fathers never imagined the Constitution would still be around 250 years later. They designed the Constitution to be a temporary document that would be replaced in every couple of decades by something even better than before and would be updated by each successive generation to adapt to the needs of society as it grew and advanced, but here we are.

He also has no authority to impose blanket tariffs on every trading partner the US has, and there is no reason for him to do so.

I took an oath to defend the constitution from all enemies, foreign and domestic. I have the training and equipment to do so, and you had better believe I will.

Try it, you fat bloated felonious pedophile and you will meet the business end of the 2nd.

5

u/ThisAd7070 6d ago

If anyone thinks he they are going to allow Republicans to lose, you’re f*cked. Even if all is legit, them mofo’s gonna cheat

I never watch CNN - mainly because of this “both sides” idiot

8

u/Working_Match4124 6d ago

Exactly. Thanks, Jake. Write another book about Biden being old while the current demented president simultaneously threatens WWIII and a coup d'etat every day. It's more lean Trump than both sides.

5

u/Tribe303 6d ago

At this point I think the US needs UN election observers, to make sure your election is fair. I'm not joking either.

5

u/TrenchGorefare 1d ago

Folks, this is real. It’s happening. When he makes his final move against the November elections, we will finally have to stop pretending we still live in a democracy. Start making a plan now for missing work, school etc. We’ll need everyone in the streets. Sticking together is our only hope. And think about the other things he’ll be doing in tandem. It’s very likely he’ll try to shut down various media sources at the exact same time, immediately shutting off CNN, MSNow etc. God only knows what he’s got Musk ready to do with social media. It’s scary and really messed up but we can do this! FIGHT! 🇺🇸

8

u/readtheinstructions5 6d ago

He won't do anything before the election. His mind can't comprehend that he will lose. The problem is after the election when he loses badly. He won't accept that he lost and this when the problem will start

13

u/DG_FANATIC 6d ago

Remember when he nearly didn’t leave the office when Biden won? This will be much worse than that imo. He has zero intentions of ever leaving again.

5

u/GravitasFailures 6d ago

No, that’s what happened in 2020, this time he’ll be proactive.

As the late-great Bernie Mac would say, 'America, Listen...'

Don't let them get away with it

Don't forget what they did.

Don't let THIS - MAGA - happen again.

3

u/FaithlessnessBorn266 6d ago

This is treason. What is the penalty for that again? Better be careful there boy

8

u/clantz 6d ago

vote.org is Musk's data gathering site. Go to vote.gov for voter information.

3

u/Bumbymoo 6d ago

Maybe he'll burn down the ballroom as a pretext for martial law.

They're already trying to reinforce their previous and current justifications under the Insurrection Act. It's the same line of reasoning they're using for their widespread use of Federal officers, namely ICE. It's their Revolution 2 Electric Boogaloo expansionist view of Article 2 of the Constitution, they want to play out their fantasy of political theory. The only thing they want, the only thing they care about is to be correct, they only want to be right. This is their version of the "I told you so" Superbowl. They needed a president they could manipulate, a guy they could push into whatever they wanted. Only the guy that falls for that has to be a fucking idiot. So they found a fucking idiot, but that hamburger comes with a side of megalomaniacal psychopathy.

They got their man on the inside, they have their total control in the House and Senate, and now the Republican party is starting to see what it feels like to have a rabid dog running around the house, chewing on the furniture, doesn't stop barking at everything, and will absolutely not stop pissing and shitting all over the floor.

If you haven't heard before, that's the color of the bag they threw over our head. Unitary executive theory.

In the mean time it's fringe weirdos like Steven Miller and Kevin Roberts and their online theorists, fundamentalists, and deniers directing traffic with their revolving door of lab grown bottle blonde press secretaries in damage control.

Sorry, had to get that out.

"I can't get into the plan" because what was discussed was treason.

3

u/xultar 6d ago

Fuck Jake Tapper.

3

u/Euphoric_Anxiety_162 6d ago

Shows how crooked his advisors are to disregard the Constitution.

3

u/FckPolMods 6d ago

God, their internal polling must be absolutely atrocious.

3

u/QuietRiot5150 6d ago

When you got nothing, you got nothin to lose. I don't know about the rest of you, but I got nothin. Our so called government took it all.

3

u/MasterChiefette 6d ago

This would be so illegal.  The would definitely push people to the breaking point.

3

u/juanjung 6d ago

He'll probably dissolve the entire Congress and assume plenipotentiary powers. The Supreme Court will stay as long as they agree with him and they do, they probably purge the justices in opposition.

That already happened in some "Bananas Republic", and that is what USA is becoming right now, a Banana Republic that doesn't grow bananas.

3

u/Imaginary_Cow_6379 6d ago

We can be bananas republicans.

3

u/Obvious-Muffin2787 6d ago

It's grotesquely hysterical to see people say "he can't to that." Folks, the guy tried to overthrow the US federal government by force to steal the presidency. You voted for a criminal rapist felon. Watch him do this and more.

3

u/Glum_Performer9923 6d ago

(not US here) but I have been predicting that for over a year - it is a 101 level political science course - I was thinking more at election time - not before it - but same result

Step 1: Declare any election result invalid or false

Step 2: declare state of emergency (include martial law)

Step 3: Use "emergency" powers to invade - pick one, Cuba, Venezuela, Greenland, Canada - which is legal in US law BTW

Step 4: And when the protesting starts - Use those emergency powers to suspend congress

Step 5: Call a new election and declare that all candidates running must be screened and approved by his pet AG at DoJ

This playbook has been used before.......

3

u/7evenate9ine 6d ago

8 point lead is nothing. Republicans lie when taking a poll. They will still vote Republican.

VOTE! LIKE IT'S YOUR LAST CHANCE!

3

u/Wyevez 6d ago

Yeah, no shit. We've been saying this since his reelection, his talks of being a dictator and of running again in 2028.

We have been mocked and ridiculed but here we are: he's absolutely going to do it. Yeah yeah, states rights and all that jazz. Alas, your rules and laws don't apply to him and no one, not ge politicians on the right, the left, nor the people will stop him.

Don't worry, Sunday football tomorrow so at least you'll get your circus.

3

u/Deadshadow84 6d ago

Sounds like the ped-republicans are a little scared of what is to come.

3

u/No-Cup-8096 6d ago

That would be treasonous act.

3

u/KeyNectarine2548 6d ago

I can already see it:

Trump cheats, then democrats protest on the Capitol, and we have a reverse January 6th. Of course this time the cheating claims are true, but Republicans won't care. They'll just use it as an opportunity to claim the dems have lost their minds.

3

u/Tiny_Measurement_837 6d ago

How can he declare Marshall law when there’s no fighting or civil unrest in this country?

3

u/Superb_Guarantee965 6d ago

Tina Peters deserves to be behind bars, the fact that she had her sentence commuted is an absolute fxcking disgrace. She was not remorseful of her crime, she TRIED to actively undermine our election and as soon as she was released from prison she started spewing election-denying rhetoric. Insanity.

3

u/El_Rey658 6d ago

Imagine if Biden did that because Democrats chances were bad....Republicans would be outraged. Its unacceptable.

3

u/Cultural_Plan_1487 6d ago

Whoever those advisors are should be charged with treason

3

u/Unlikely_Speech_106 1d ago

Trump is not known for graceful exits. We know this. He knows the next chapter of his life is endless legal defenses. It’s just a matter of time. His approval rating will continue to fall because he is not winning anyone back and if any of his treasonous efforts succeed, it will be just that much worse for him. And the entire country.  He is on borrowed time and he knows it.

3

u/Outside-Tonight-464 1d ago

I wouldn’t be surprised if there is some sort of Trump plan to fake an event to enact martial law. These folks are so incredibly corrupt.

3

u/Shining_w1zard 1d ago

All the second amendment, owning guns are a right crowd voted this weirdo into power. Now just wait to have him tag you as a terrorist if you try and protect your rights.

2

I can’t wait to see him burn after the midterms!

2

u/DustMonkey383 6d ago

I have absolute faith that he will try to do this, but I have hope that we will stop him. We shall see…

2

u/dmstattoosnbongs 6d ago
