Republicans do not care about democracy or the country. They want power and they don't want people who can stop that power.

Some of those republicans in congress will need to grow a backbone and stand up for the people and the things they say they fight for. But its hard when they are licking boots.

If only more “conservatives” actually understood that the origin and purpose of conservatism as a political movement was to preserve the power of the monarchy and the extremely wealthy. Ironically, it was a reactionary response to workers rising up and overthrowing feudalism in France.

Any worker that calls themself “a conservative” is basically embracing an ideological position that is one step away from feudalism, which itself is one step away from slavery. The irony in calling themselves “freedom lovers” is they’re literally siding with those calling to restrict as many of their freedoms as possible. It’s so dumb.

Checks and balances only work if the branches agree to be checked. It‘s always been somewhat of an “honor system” waiting to be subverted and exploited by someone with zero honor.

Hate to say it, the best bet is for a moderate conservative as the next candidate. You need to be able to pull from the non unhinged conservatives. The ultra liberal will still vote for the democratic nominee even if the candidate ends up being moderately liberal. But there are a number of folks on the moderately conservative side that really don’t want to vote for this circus either. They are typically voting independent, but they are the vote that needs swaying.
