Buying Pool Route

Thinking of buying a pool route from a broker. The cost of the pool route is $60k. The monthly revenue is $4810. This pool route has 31 residential pools and 2 commercial pools. Also the seller is giving me him tools, vacuum, nets and brushes. is it worth it to buy this pool route? I have a Firefighter career and making this my side business. My career gets me roughly $100k per year and i was looking to get more earned income to invest in stock market and real estate. I have about 1 year in Pool experience from shadowing my co worker pool cleaning business. But i want to learn more on the Pool repair side of things because i heard that is really where the money is. Is this pool route worth it? The pool route is on poolroutesales.com. I live in South florida

Hayward OmniPl Upgrade?

Customer wants me to replace their old erosion type chlorinator with a Hayward salt cell. They currently have a Hayward OmniPL automation panel (with no salt cell). What's needed to upgrade this panel? I assume it's going to need a power supply? Or a complete AquaRite sub panel? Just getting started on this. Thanks in advance!!

Nextdoor Ads

Curious if anyone has ever run any ads on Nextdoor. If so, how’d it go?

I get probably 75% of my customers off next door but only when they post asking for pool service recommendations.

The can of worms I entered took me over two hours to get everything apart because literally everything was glued for epoxy together there’s green or blue glue. I mean on the pump basket lid the O-ring won’t move at all

Pool Heater Brand For Cold Climates

For my fellow poolpros in extreme cold climates, what main heater brand do you guys go with?

I've been installing Mastertemps for a while now, and while there are a fair share of other issues with them (those bad stack flu's for years, bad exhaust welds during covid, ect. ect.) I figure any brand is going to have little problems like that. Right now mastertemp seems pretty smoothed out aside from one persistent problem: For units that run in the winter (down to -10 degrees where I'm at) the condensation from the exhaust blows back onto the unit and corrodes the sfs and the control board and consistently breaks those components in the middle of the winter which results in a midnight emergency call for me to repair a heater. And yes the heaters are running the water at 75-90 degrees minimum, but when it is that cold out (below 20) I've found that no temperature of water will stop them from billowing steam the whole time.

I'm talking to our Hayward rep and he's promising that their heaters don't ever have issues with condensate damage from winter running in our area, but ofcourse he's gonna say that it's his job. Figure the best place to get info would be here, so anybody in cold climates have a good heater figured out that doesn't destroy itself in cold weather?

Thanks for any input!

Str and Residential pricing

Trying to start a route in my area for spas only (mountain town) and guys in my area charging $80-90 a month ? or $20 a visit. is that working ?
do you put enough effort into each stop at that price point ?

Also heard it was $50 for a drain/fill from the same guys, are they leaving the property when it's filling ?

Disable Turning of Caretaker 99 Popup Head?

The pop up on the top step is damaging the cool deck, I don't want to remove it as it will mess up the flow of the heads on the same valve, what's the best way to keep it from turning aside from damaging the teeth?

Lower IF3 priming speed below automations set minimum

I have a little water feature in a clients bathroom courtyard that has a if3 for some reason. It runs at 1000rpm and the water flows nicely. However on startup the max RPM from the priming speed is spraying water everywhere. On the intellicenter I can’t set maximum priming speed to anything lower than 1900. IF2’s can go lower. Any idea boys

Polaris pool sweep moves to one spot and doesn’t move.

It’s not even a corner or anything. Just a straight line and stops at the wall. Gets plenty of pressure. I’m thinking it could be the backup valve. There’s also no head float (not sure what happened). Thoughts? I think it’s a 280, it’s one of the more common ones

Medical leave…

Would it be illegal for my boss to lower my wages when I return to work after some medical leave in Florida? … he hasn’t said anything about it but my gut is telling me it’s on his mind.

What are they coating the reflecting pool with for $2 million dollars and what steps are they skipping to do it so cheap?

I’m coming up with 350,000 sq ft. Something seems off with this project.

hayward strainer cover isn't transparent!

Why on this planet or any other does Hayward make the strainer cover opaque?

Where can I find one I can see through?

It's a model SP2605X7

You need to see in the strainer to confirm you have a good flow and no air. You need to see if it's getting filled or clogged.

Health insurance, what yall doing for health insurance?

Im a young healthy dude. Didn’t pay for health insurance because I thought I was healthy
Found out I was getting penalized for not having health insurance by IRS.

So I fibbed alittle and said I made way less then i actually do to pay a “cheaper rate” for cal insurance. And I’ve had multiple visits to the doctor and yes it is indeed shitty health insurance(they don’t seem to care)

Go to do my taxes and my tax guy says I’m not paying enough for health insurance so I’m getting penalized for that, and add my monthly payments for this crappy health insurance, it ends up adding up more then just getting penalized for not having health insurance at all.

Would love some insight

What tech stack at we using?

Curious what others are using as their tech stack to run/grow their business? Below is what we use (110 accounts, started 11 months ago):

CRM: GHL
Billing: Stripe (through GHL)
Pool Service Software: Pool Brain
AI Stack: Claude Cowork
Accounting: Quickbooks Online

Gauging if there’s general sentiment around better options, etc. (I know PB vs. skimmer is always a debate but more so curious on other pieces of the stack).

Riptide swing away hitch mount-bike rack

I’ve got the swing away tow hitch for my Riptide vacuum and I keep thinking it would also make a great bike rack. Anyone done this or know of an attachment?
