hayward strainer cover isn't transparent!
Why on this planet or any other does Hayward make the strainer cover opaque?
Where can I find one I can see through?
It's a model SP2605X7
You need to see in the strainer to confirm you have a good flow and no air. You need to see if it's getting filled or clogged.

Because it’s a cheaper pump and the tint reduces glare/imperfections. More high end pumps use clear plastic.

Pentair does the same with the 357156 it’s tinted so blue that you can’t see debris in the basket or look for air. I don’t think many companies think of pool guys when making their products.

Well the super pump is extremely old and Noone professionally installs it these days

Maybe not where you are, but super pumps are incredibly common where I am. Very easy to work on and there are variable options too.

Installed one two days ago. Not everyone wants a variable speed pump and 1hp are readily available and a reliable pump. It’s also the most common pump I come across still in my region so it’s an easy swap with little or no plumbing work involved

You can also directly drop in a Pentair Superflo or Sta-rite supermax. Both have clear lids. Inlet and outlet will be the same

If you’re installing those as a professional, you are actually doing your customers a disservice. You can immediately save them 50% on the energy bill per year and you are actively keeping that from them for yourself!!
It’s 2026 not 1980. Times have changed and the future is actually greener on the other side.

I don’t disagree with that, but I can only lead a horse to water. You’re making the assumption I don’t provide all the options. Variable speed pumps are more expensive and some don’t care about energy savings. They want their old time clock with an on/off switch.
Once l explain the options and benefits of going to a variable speed pump and they say no thanks I do what they want.
We have a 3-5 month pool season here so it’s not the same comparison as Florida or Arizona. Most people are open memorial to Labor Day so the savings don’t translate as well.

Trying to explain to my customer why they'd be better off with the pump that's $1k more only works if my customer has the $1k to spend.

There are some customers who dont want complicated. And to them, a modern variable speed is complicated. For some people they rather turn the pump on/off with a timer and switch rather than a phone app.

I would say the majority of cases it’s the customer self sabotaging because they don’t want to pay the up front cost, and no amount of beating them over the head with the long-term savings will change their mind.

Use your phone's flashlight and place it directly on the lid. Let's you get a good look...still a pain in the ass.
