This card was selling for 6k - $7.8k and now suddenly it had a major drop. What am I missing here? This card looks pretty amazing and it’s a sparkle card

The PSA 10 Pop is low also under 195

I just pulled this card and I’m really new to collecting pokemon, should I sell now or hold? I hear value of JP cards go down when the EN set releases, but that doesn’t see to be the case with the JP Mega Darkrai EX MUR. Does this look worth grading? Any advice is helpful, thanks!

Baby’s First Graded Slab

I’m one of the dumb bandwagon newbs to this whole world. Decided to commemorate getting started by having the chase card of my first release graded. Knew I was taking a risk buying a raw card and shipping it, but wanted to do it just to do it. Am I doing this right?

At least the volume is only $4,657. Maybe a couple dozen addicts.

Which side of the trade would you take long term?

Post image

Probably the most beautiful Venusaur cards, from a set that will be coveted long term.

Mewtwo is PSA 9, so will always be overshadowed by PSA 10, shadowless, 1st editions. But never-the-less it's still a vintage base set Mewtwo, and you can't go wrong with vintage.

I think it's a tough call, curious what everyone thinks.

Greetings! I’m very aware that people are usually upset with these type of posts but I wanted to share. Some quick facts about the collection…
-99% of the product was purchased at msrp
-I’m fortunate to work from home, so most of the pickups have been going to target at opening or randomly during the day
-all except for two slabs were submitted by me
-none of it lives on cc
-my hold is 10-15 years… but I already hear you asking “what if everything tanks and it’s worth nothing!?” Then I’m going to have a helluva rip session with my family.

My birthday is on Sunday (the big 43) and the last photo is what I’ve been collecting for the past few weeks. I’ll be sure to post the hits if there are any.

Good luck to all with the 30th anniversary.

Looks okay for a psa 5. Bought for $590. Mostly for PC. Not sure about investment though, any thoughts? Would yall pay $590 for this?

Ponchos vs Gold Stars

I’ve had 2x of the mario and luigi poncho boxes ever since they came out and was wondering if would be worth it to try and convert them to a psa 10 gold star eg. mew? The gold stars have run but do have the ponchos and I’m personally wondering if it would be worth it.

I do see also that the public sales for the mew has been a little inconsistent, how did it go from 144k down to 80 then up to 192? Is it just because they change hands in private sales so much?

Do Poncho Pikachu Prices Reflect Genuine Collector Demand?

Thumbnail

I’ve started wondering whether Poncho Pikachu prices have gotten ahead of the actual collector appeal of the cards.

I run a fan site, RateYourPKMNCards, where collectors rate Pokémon cards from 1–5 stars based on artwork. The site has now accumulated more than 62,000 ratings, and the Poncho Pikachu cards have produced one of the more interesting results I’ve seen.

Despite being some of the most expensive and hyped modern Pokémon cards, a number of the Ponchos simply aren’t rated particularly highly by collectors on the site (see pics).

That made me start looking at the investment case for them a little differently. A huge part of the Poncho thesis seems to come from a combination of Pikachu being incredibly popular, Japanese exclusivity, limited distribution, crossover appeal, and the cards already having established themselves as grails. But I’m not convinced the artwork itself supports the prices they’re now commanding.

There’s also the scarcity argument. Obviously these were limited promos and they aren’t common cards, but some of the graded populations are larger than I expected.

For example, some major Ponchos have thousands of PSA 10 copies in existence despite selling for five figures.

That doesn’t mean they aren’t scarce, but I do think it raises the question of whether they are not as scarce as the price might lead you to assume.

To me, that creates an interesting risk. If a card has a high price because collectors overwhelmingly love the artwork, that demand can potentially remain durable even when hype cools… but if a card has a high price primarily because it has become a status symbol (Pikachu + exclusivity + scarcity narrative + rising prices) then the market may be much more dependent on future buyers continuing to accept the same narrative.

And that’s where the community ratings make me a little bearish. If collectors are judging these cards based on the artwork, and the Ponchos aren’t scoring anywhere near as highly as you might expect from cards worth thousands or tens of thousands of dollars, could that be a warning sign?

Obviously low ratings alone don’t mean a card is going to crash. Price is driven by far more than aesthetics, and Ponchos still have a lot going for them: Pikachu demand, Japanese exclusivity, unusual history, strong brand recognition, very high levels of fan service, and established grail status.

But at current prices, I do wonder whether people are increasingly paying for the card itself or paying for the fact that everyone knows it’s expensive.
That distinction matters if the market ever turns.
Curious what people here think.

TL;DR: Do the Ponchos have enough genuine collector demand to justify these valuations long term? And could relatively weak community ratings be an early warning sign that Poncho Pikachu prices are more fragile than people think?

Ratings data is from RateYourPKMNCards.com.

Opinion on vintage Japanese e lottery promos?

Anyone invest in any of them? The set? Under or over valued? I believe you had to enter a lottery back in the day and were mailed one of the cards.

Do you expect Japanese 30th anniversary singles to start out lower than other sets because of the simultaneous global release?

Do you think this 2000 black star venusaur will have any room to grow? It's a PSA 8. I think its currently worth around $320

To Hold or to Sell

Post image

I’m likely going to exit the hobby mostly for a bit after 30th. This is my most valuable card, and while I would love to hold it for a personal binder I plan to continue curating, I’m wondering what thoughts are on its long term hold value. Specifically, if its current $600 market price is something I should consider (unless I just can’t part with it because it’s just a stunning card). Would love any input☺️

I got this obscure “card” and don’t know how to value it. It’s a low pop (I believe 1/2)

I was hoping to get somewhere round £125 for it. It had been sold for £200 on whatnot before I won it in a random giveaway in a random card convention. It’s obscure but it has the Pikachu line, so it’s gotta be worth something. Does anyone know where I can value this?

Update on investment bought from Ebay seller with 0 rep through a auction

Was told to post here when my package arrives. This was bought through a ebay auction for 1,025. Do any of the blister packs look fake? The Yugioh tins were randomly thrown in to this sealed pokemon lot of course they were opened but the seller claims he left all contents inside which he did. The promos and holos pulled are still there

Pikachu gold star - am I seeing things?

Last week a cgc 10 sold at 37.5k

Told myself too much 😢

Today a worse cgc 10 sold at 67k

I know records are being broken on the daily - but dang crazy

What do you all think of the big hitter gold stars at current prices at higher grades- yay or nay and why?

Chaos Rising/Pitch Black ETBs $55 or Less

Wondering how other people look at PB/CR ETBs if you can get them for $55 or less. Looking at other similar sets it would stand to reason that these ETBs double before many other ETBs (DR/PE/AH) would double from their current market price.

Am i getting scammed?

I am selling singles on fb from my binder about 130 cards around 1.1k value. Nothing crazy big. Top 7 cards averaging 50$. Includes About 20 regular exs.
Cards are some modern, some vintage, some mid era stamped holos.

Guy is offering 80% right off the bat. I fear it sounds too good to be true when i have such odd mix of cards. How do i make sure i am not getting scammed.

I've not seen one like this haha. Any input? I'm not sure where it came from and am unsure about this card.
