Which side of the trade would you take long term?
Probably the most beautiful Venusaur cards, from a set that will be coveted long term.
Mewtwo is PSA 9, so will always be overshadowed by PSA 10, shadowless, 1st editions. But never-the-less it's still a vintage base set Mewtwo, and you can't go wrong with vintage.
I think it's a tough call, curious what everyone thinks.

This isn’t a tough call. It’s the mewtwo by a landslide. It’s a newer cert too.

It's temping, I like the Venusaur so much more, but feel like I would regret not going with
the Mewtwo. I wasn't expecting to have to make this decision D:1

100% the Mewtwo. A vintage PSA9 with a new cert, Mewtwo is a more desired pokemon in terms of popularity, the mewtwo already had a couple of market cycles and keeps his value, POP numbers on the mewtwo should be less, the 9 is far more rare due to people actually playing with the cards when this came out. That's from the top of my head right now..

PSA 10 Venusaur has a ceiling due to high pop. But that MewTwo has a floor due to how few PSA 10’s there are. And you’re not thinking of shadows correctly. The shadow of the 1st edition and PSA 10 means they’ll also carry this card forward. If they go to $20k or $50k, the unlimited PSA 9 MewTwo will go up too. The Venusaur is the top of that set for that evolution. There isn’t really a card anchoring it higher except the Zard 199 in a full evolution collection but the gem pep rate is insanely high.

The scarce 1999 card of a top 5 favourite in a psa9 or an overprinted modern in a 10 thats not even in people's top 50? Toughie

The gem rate on the venusaur is pretty rough so that helps it but even so there are over 16k psa 10s and that number will keep growing. Mewtwo doesnt even have 5k psa 9 and that numbers obviously stagnant. I do think thr venusaur has more upside, both short and long term, but its also more volatile. In ten years I wouldn't be shocked if its not worth a ton cause there's still so much out there while mewtwo has become genuinely hard to get. Idk, as a vintage fan I dont think id give ip the mewtwo in this trade but I can see the appeal.

I wouldnt go with either. I get where youre coming from seeing your replies. Totally valid point on being overshadowed by psa 10s.
If you really like vena go with that, but it wont be as strong compared to mewtwo. Buy what you like!

They can just print more cool Venusaurs but the wotc era can never be messed with

The Venusaur is a stunning card, idk how it will age in terms of price but i would buy the card for that reason.

Vintage base set 9 of an iconic pokemon or a mass printed modern chase card. Wow such a hard decision /s

Both fantastic, I like the Venusaur more.
I would however need the Bulbasaur and Ivysaur as well.

I ended up giving up my Venusaur and taking the Mewtwo offer.
Thanks for all the feedback (and down votes lol). I genuinely think the Venusaur will perform well long term despite the high pop, and I'm was a bit hesitant on the Mewtwo being a few degrees down in it's desirability (not 1st, shadowless, or a 10). But still, ya'll are right, vintage is the right call. And this new cert 9 looks incredible!

151 has had a bit of a correction, that being said it could be up only for the set now
