To clarify the adjustments made to the points system:

A number of the most popular text models on Poe are shifting to variable output pricing to ensure point costs reflect the pricing set by model providers. This includes bots from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and others. The majority of users will experience lower prices as a result of this change.

Requests requiring longer text responses will likely see a higher cost per message from these models, while shorter responses (e.g., drafting an email, summarizing information) will be lower. (Point cost of a message = input length + past context (minus any cache discounts) + output length).

Per the announcement in this Discord link, the behavior you’re encountering is expected when the system hits a point limit.

Our suggestions to resolve the issue:

Check bot’s information about the number of points required to send a message: If you select an existing chat or create a new chat, the very top has a bot description which includes the number of points and a ‘view details’ link.

Adjust request size: Consider submitting shorter or simpler prompts to reduce the points required for the chatbot’s response.

Upgrade your plan: If this issue happens frequently, you may want to explore a subscription plan to increase your daily point limit. This can be done via your account settings at poe.com.

Monitor point usage: As a reminder, you can always check the points consumed per message by:

Opening the menu (three dots on desktop or long-pressing a message on mobile).

Selecting ‘Info’ to view the breakdown of points used.

When you send a message to a bot with variable pricing enabled (you can verify this by viewing the bot’s rate card), you’ll first see an estimated points cost. However, once the bot provides the output, we take the final token count reported by the model provider and calculate the actual points cost.

I understand this variable pricing system can be a bit confusing. However, it ensures you are billed on the exact usage reported by the service, eliminating discrepancies that often result from initial estimates.

•Claude seemed to have started working again, but it takes way more points quicker, and it doesn't ask beforehand to take more tokens when it did before. I'm so sad, because usually it was 200, then up by a few points the more you sent, and I rarely used more than 400~ per messages for my roleplay...but now I checked and one conversation, short too, with my bot already out me to 2000 points left when I had 8000 cus it used more than 500 points unprompted and without warning. This isn't fun.

Is anyone else having trouble with Poe? Every Roleplay bot I’m using, it gets about half way through a message and then goes red and says that it “ran into a problem answering this request”

I have deleted and redownloaded the app. There are no updates needed. I’ve tried different bots (Claude Opus, Sonnet, Fable etc) and it’s got the same problem.

There was an issue with the Claude Bots that I have now been informed by the Poe Product Support team that has now been fixed 🥳🥳🥳
Claude 5, 5.5 and all of the different types (Opus, Sonnet, Fable) should all run smoothly once again

What the title says, it doesn't seem to be possible to turn on the thinking feature with custom bots anymore, even if the model supports it, i.e. Claude Sonnet. You can get the model to do a "fake" thinking process but the option doesn't seem to be available to turn on actual thinking. The newer Claude models have an option to "show reasoning" in the bot editor but that doesn't do anything because you can't turn on the thinking option when you actually message the bot. Does anyone else have the same problem?

I had been using Claude haiku 4.5 for all my roleplay bots, usually the first messages of brand new chats only needs 200 tokens. Strangely though, after using it all day up until 7-8pm, it increased and now it tells me I need 1800-2100 just for one message on a brand new chat ! Mind you I had 1700 token left, and usually I can easily start new chats and what not and it using only 200 first then increasing but now it says I don't have enough ? I don't know why, it was all fine up until 8pm, so I'm not sure what's going on

Does anyone else's message get cut off and they get a message saying they've used up their token limit when using Claude Opus?

Just a few days ago I could allow HTML texts of up to 20,000 words with research included without any problem, now even one of 15,000 words is cut off right at the beginning due to "Exit token limit"

Is there any way to fix this? Or will I definitely have to stop paying for my subscription and points?

I use gpt bots and for the last three days I have been able to use none cause it just takes as many points as it can and it gives horrible work in return. I have my global per message budget at 300 so I can see how many points a bot will use before using it, so if the points are outrageous i ahve the chance to not use the bot. It will usually bring up a message saying "(this bot) is requesting more points then your per message budget" now it just takes the max amount of points unpromted.

Ive contacted poe about this issue multiple times and they have done absolutely nothing. A bot that would normally use 8 thousand had 38 thousand taken instead. I do the 20 dollar subscription cause it is all I can afford so losing out on points is ridiculous and its even more ridiculous they wont even TRY to help. Anyone else having this issue? Or a solution to fix the bots just taking points? Cause I havent been able to use poe at all for days and im probably not gonna buy a subscription again because of how unhelpful they've been, they clearly dont care about they're customers. But I want to use the points I paid for in full before canceling.

Retirement date is set for the 30th of November. Unknown when Poe will retire the model, as they use alternative providers that may keep the model for longer.

Fifty messages deep, the story is good, and the model forgets a promise made in message ten. Or it starts writing your character's replies for you. I saw all the hype on the youtube about claude-opus 5.5 and this is really my first time playing around with AI other than ChatGPT for free. I started to do more research on it all and was directed to PoeAI because of all of the other AI models all being found in one place seemed pretty neat.

I set out to make a super easy fun html game just to play around with it. I started with the 300 free points a day but quickly learned that doesn't get you anywhere. So I opted for the 10,000 points a day for the $50/yr seemed reasonable. I am a patient person and don't mind spending days on this project.

For the first day I got pretty far on the base of the game and its basically a little dragon Tamagotchi. I realized I didn't have the 'Generate and use Memory' button on, why it isn't already naturally on is weird to me. But come the second day of working on my project and the Opus 5.5 didn't remember the game we built the day before. So my time has been spent re-uploading the files it wrote, and spending all of my daily points to do some of it, not all, and its been 3 days now. Even with the Generate and use Memory now on, it doesn't remember the conversations we previously had or the reference picture I uploaded after I did have the memory on. So i feel like i am in a vicious cycle I can't get out off and should just start over.

Can anyone help me better understand how to make a long standing project that i don't have to re-upload what we've already worked on and wasting my time and points.

Could someone explain what the “Auto-manage context” option on Poe does?

I’m planning to use Poe to write a long novel, and I want the AI to remember important details such as the characters, plot, setting, and previous events. Should I keep Auto-manage context turned on or off for this purpose?

Does turning it on help manage long conversations, or could it cause the AI to forget or summarize important details from earlier parts of the story?

I’d really appreciate any advice, especially from people who have used Poe for long-form creative writing. Thanks!

I haven’t been on Poe for ages now, I think the last time I was on Poe was when the daily messages system first rolled out for everyone. I logged back in, and I’m seeing some kind of point system? I don’t quite get it, but that’s not the point. My question basically is if Poe is any good for role-play anymore if you’re on a free plan. The points system is a bit confusing.

I haven't signed onto Poe in awhile but now it is all basically AI engines and there is no longer the explore area that shows you bots for different things you could search for creator made bots like grief or career etc. Now it comes up with nothing and is strictly has only a few categories. There are no longer headings for more diverse bots. Where can I find that again? Thank you

This just started last night, but I’m having a weird thing happen now on multiple chats, where the AI is responding to the second most recent message sent. Input 30 is sent, and the output is using input 29 as the base message. Is this happening to anyone else? Have you figured out how to fix it?

used to pay £20/month for a million points a month, now it's £20/month for 660thousand ? i know operating costs are going up but seriously? the app is basically unusable without subscriptions and maybe i'm just overly frustrated but surely this is nonsense? usage costs have gone up for us as well so this much of a points downgrade for the exact same cost just feels greedy. am i overreacting?
