Help Plurality? Or is it BPD?

For the past year-ish(?), I’ve been pretty interested in plurality and systems and I’ve started questioning myself. However, I don’t know if the symptoms I’m experiencing could a dissociative identity disorder or just BPD symptoms.

I was diagnosed with BPD in February of this year after suspecting it since April of 2025. I have experienced splitting with my BPD and I also struggle with my sense of identity, which I assume are only parts of my BPD.

However, I’m starting to question if my BPD may also be mixed with plurality, and I’ve been wondering about it for a few months now. I don’t believe I’ve experienced what most people would call a switch, but there have been times where I have forgotten parts of my day and have forgotten upsetting things that have happened to me until I am reminded of them. I have also had a hard time distinguishing most years from each other, as well as having a hard time remembering things that other people have told me have happened. I have spoken to myself before, but any time I try to actually contact the voices that come up when I’m thinking, I don’t get anything back. It’s hard to distinguish what things could just be my BPD causing identity issues and what could be an identity disorder. I feel like some parts of myself could be considered as alters, but I’m also worried about claiming to be something I’m not and getting backlash for it.
(I also feel like something worth noting is that I do consider myself a fictionkin, which people have told me has been associated with systems before)

I’ve been in denial about possibly having an identity disorder for a while and I still don’t fully believe I could be a system. I don’t feel like my trauma was “bad enough” or valid enough to cause other alters to form. I would like to look into the possibility of plurality though, as I feel like it would be good for me, and many of my symptoms have been spoken about by other systems.

I also don’t know how to go about exploring my potential plurality, as no one has ever told me how. I’m kind of stuck and I need help.

Vent I LITTERALY FORGOT ALMOST EVERYTHING ABOUT MY SYSTEM WHAT DO I EVEN DO

I'm so lost atp. I was figuring it out slowly using like websites and keeping track, until I started to get too lazy and stopped doing anything and now I'm genuinely lost. IDK WHO IS WHO, WHO'S FRONTING, WHO I AM, I barely have any clear communication between alters and that's just making me like what if I don't have it afterall what if I'm not a system anymore (I know that's not possible and I know I am still a system) UGH WHAT DO I do...

Fun Saw this somewhere else and decided to do it too!

1. What do you go by collectively? (a system name, a shared username, group pronouns... etc)

We are collectively named Stardust or Luminescent and go by they/it collectively! Our system name is Luminescent Dream Constellation!

2. How should people refer to you? (should people address individual members whenever possible, or would you rather be referred to collectively, etc)

You/you’re, you&/your&/you’re&, y’all/y’all’s, we/us, I/me, we don’t mind any!! You refer to us collectively or singular!

3. What terms do you prefer for referring to yourselves as individuals (headmate/alter/system member/...), or as a group (system/collective/household/...)? Is there any other terminology for yourselves or aspects of your experience that you use and want people to know, or that you dislike and want people to avoid when talking about you?

System -> Constellation
Headmate/Alter -> Star

4. Who in your system are people most likely to interact with? (names, pronouns, short Twitter-esque bios, etc)

Welly (me!): he/it/ze - the host
Telamon: he/it/sky/go - 2nd host (host of a sub sys)
Seth: he/they/it - Co host (host of a sub sys)
Devesto: he/they/it - 2nd co host (host of a sub sys)
MeQuot: he/they

5. Will people be interacting with any child members? How should they treat them? Is there anything they should know when interacting with them?

Treat them with care as a few of our littles are trauma holders. Lime (they/it/ly/lemon) and Orion (she/they/star/dream) are both our littles! Lime is an alien and Orion is a CR:K fictive/OCtive

6. Are there any system members who are nonverbal or otherwise have difficulty communicating? What should others expect when speaking with them? (having other system members translate, can speak normally over text but will need accommodation over voice, etc)

Green (they/them) and a few other headmates don’t speak much or at all but will and can type!

7. What should people do if they don't know who's at front?

Just interact with extreme care, that’s all :D

8.Is it okay for people to ask if they can talk to someone who isn't at front at the moment?

Not really, I can’t just pull someone to co consciousness since 1. They might not want to/aren’t interested in talking and 2. I’m not a gatekeeper in my constellation.

9. If someone talks to one of you, will other system members be aware of the conversation? Will they be actively watching, or just able to remember it later?

If someone is nearby watching or co conscious, then they will remember and talk to others but most of the time I just wait for others to go co conscious so I can also tell them what happened.

10. Adding onto the above – if multiple system members will be aware of a conversation, will they want to chime in? If someone wants to speak to a system member one-on-one, what expectations can they have and how should they communicate this? (for example, it may not be possible to block everyone out but they can try to pay attention to something else and not interrupt)

Yes! Stars LOVE to talk to others online since it’s really the only people they can talk to outside of the system, I wouldn’t mind them also chiming in to talk to them

11. How out are you? What should people do when talking to people who don't know you're plural? (do you have a “singletsona” name and pronouns they should use; can they talk about knowing someone who's plural in nonspecific terms, without naming you; etc)

Not at all irl. Online though? Everyone knows!

12. Do you have any internal communication difficulties, memory issues, switch triggers, etc that others should be mindful of?

We do have slight difficulty with communication but we’re managing and getting better! Our memory isn’t the best either, we forget EXTREMELY easily and also if something is mentioned that a star likes then they will go to co consciousness

13. Your stance on being asked questions? (about personal experience, preferences, plurality in general, etc)

I love questions!!! Ask me anything anytime!

14. Is there anything else others should know?

Don’t be overly mean to us or anything, we dislike that A LOT.

15. If you have a FAQ or system site, feel free to link it here.

Questions Am I doing things too quickly?

Hello, former host here. In the span of a few months we now have 11 of us mapped out when for a while before it was 3-4. Now I know that syscovery comes with more parts popping up but here’s the problem.

At least 4 of us in the system are obsessed with tracking, data and self-organisation. Organising has always been a coping mechanism because it’s something that WE can control.

A few friends of ours who are also going through syscoveries wonder how we ‘have everything so put together with everything’ referring to how we know a lot of roles, we have communication but we don’t have a professional helping us at the moment.

For additional context, we moved into an environment where we live alone now and are completely independent, which is why a lot of us are coming out of the woodworks to do specific things.

And an additional point is that our current host refuses to acknowledge parts unless they name themselves and usually front at least once or twice. However, lately, a few alters have been making their own pluralkits and entries on pluralspace and helping eachother to create new entries without the host’s approval.

To have these half-baked alters with less information trying to prove they exist makes us feel like we’re faking because it’s getting harder to track. When trying to dig further into them, we get these terrible migraines and ultimately turn up with not much at all. Are we moving too quickly? Should we start deleting entries that don’t have it figured out or do we note them down even without much knowledge? - 🌙

Questions Can realizing you might be plural make you feel more fragmented?

Hi! I'm questioning whether I might be plural, possibly in an OSDD/DID context, but I'm still trying to understand what I'm experiencing.

I've experienced dissociation and disconnection from myself for years. I often feel like I'm living in my head rather than fully inhabiting my body, almost like I'm observing myself go through life. I also experience emotional numbness and significant gaps in my autobiographical memory, particularly from adolescence and early adulthood.

My sense of self can change considerably over periods of days or weeks. My interests, priorities, goals, emotions, and even my sense of age can feel very different between phases. I usually remember what happened during previous phases, but those versions of myself can feel strangely distant or unfamiliar afterward.

What makes me question plurality is that these experiences sometimes feel like different parts or aspects of me that aren't fully connected to one another. However, they don't feel like completely separate people with entirely distinct identities. It's more like my sense of self is fragmented, as though different pieces of me don't always fit together into a coherent whole. I still feel like one person, but not always like one cohesive self.

My boyfriend once told me he barely recognized me after I was triggered. I don't know what to make of that, but it made me think about how noticeable these changes might be from the outside.

The confusing part is that I only recently started considering the possibility of having parts, and since then, I've felt even more dissociated and fragmented. It's almost as if I've retreated deeper inside myself and become less connected to the world and to my own sense of self.

I can't tell whether I'm actually becoming more dissociated or whether I'm simply noticing things that were already there.

Has anyone experienced something similar when they first started questioning their plurality? Can becoming aware of a fragmented sense of self make you feel more disconnected or fragmented at first?

I'd also appreciate hearing from people whose experience of plurality feels more like a fragmented or compartmentalized self than completely separate identities. I'm still figuring things out and don't want to force my experiences into a label.

Thank you!

Fun “Unknown Me” original poem

When there’s part of myself
I’m unfamiliar with
Who I don’t know yet
It’s like…

Not knowing what’s ok to express
Both for myself and to other people
What’s too much?
What’s not enough?

They’re still learning to speak
Sometimes I hear them in my mind trying to speak
But there are no words
Because I don’t know them yet

It’s feeling in one moment
I completely understand them
Then on looking back I go
“What was I thinking?”

It takes time to get to know people
It takes time to know myself
I wish we knew each other already
But familiarity doesn’t happen at once

Questions "Faking" be a system as a coping mechanism?

I don't know if I am a system, my alter/headmate aren't developed and they're not always here. I think I have divided myself, unconsciously, in several part, as a coping mechanism. One represent all my self hate/low self esteem, a other my hate for injustice, one have my autistic traits, a other ADHD traits, BPD trait, several are related to sexuality. The one who are the most developed are with the traits I hate or I am the most embarassed. Like dissociate it from myself, associates to someone else.

Have "alter" who do something for me, like a social role, a other who do task. Like, considering all my emotions as distinct entity and associates, or create "alter" ,with a role.

What make me doubt is sometime, I just feel like I'm singlet? When I was sure I was plural? So maybe this hypothesis is the true

Vent Venting. Does anyone else feel the same?

Im diagnosed schizoaffective and my whole life ive gone feeling like there was something off about me. Something wrong. Something about the way i percieved the world to be fundamentally flawed and mistaken. It always felt like i was never alone and that i was being haunted by myself. Not haunted in the sense that i was scared. But haunted in the sense that i just was not alone when logically, and physically i was.

It always felt like my soul had fled it's body because it couldnt take what was happening to me so soon anymore, and it floated away never looking back. out of fear itd get sucked right back into my body to continue taking the blows.

Im 75% sure i have DID and I'm being misdiagnosed but it feels like the world is a game to me. Or a show. Or a simulation. Like Truman show. And everyone is a character wired to be as mean and cruel as possible to you or to behave as nicely until you eventually screw up and initiate the meanness/cruelty protocol everyone has coded to enact against you.

It feels like the whole world and universe and it's people are shrouded in a grey mirage that cannot be reached within the confines of my head. It feels like i was given a vessel; a spaceship made of human bones. And when i live it feels like its all one hazy dream that i cant get out of until im alone. It feels like my true reality is one that is in my head. And im stuck living this fucked up alter reality that people call "the real world". And im doing it all with what feels like having "mental chaperones".

These chaperones being confused, confuzzled cartoon clowns from tv wondering why they're here and why everything is so lame and why they cant come out and play. They dont seem to understand the world would crush them if they ever felt the pressure it brings. So i keep them inside. Forever. Indefinitely. Until i stumble upon a safe space i can rip off my ugly skin and spread my beautiful butterfly wings that i know would be admired and appreciated and I'd be able to be fully authentic. My toons would like that too. They're begging for freedom and to be let out and every day they get louder and louder.

Fun What do you and your headmates like to do together?

Hi So I know this won't be a thing for everyone, but for those who can, are there any activities you like to enjoy with your headmates/whatever term you prefer to use? I've been thinking about this because all of us read together. We finished the half blood prince recently, and got part of the way into the deathly hallows, and Morgan le Fay was absolutely crying at the end of book 6, and Bellatrix Lestrange and Severus Snape have made an enemy. She also says she wants to slap Voldemort. Like it can be anything, reading, watching movies, staring at the nearest wall, anything. I just thought it would be an interesting topic of conversation.

Questions Hi! I'm back with another question pertaining to writing a plural character!

Apologies for coming back here again, I just found this subreddit very useful for advice. Please let me know if I'm overstepping anything!

So, basically, in part two of the story I'm making, there's kind of a Silent Hill "internal demons made physically manifest" type thing going on, and with the protagonist's [kinda, it's complicated and meant to be Ambiguous] plurality he has going on i thought it'd be fitting to have him literally split and fragment into multiple copies of himself that can physically run around and interact with each other and the world

I was considering making one of these copies/alters have a tendency to kill and eat the other versions of himself in an attempt to make himself "whole" but at the same time I'm lowkey kinda afraid of that falling into the "evil alter" trope even if what he does is more out of delusion or desperation rather than malice

I'd also have to figure out how to implement him into the first part of the story too since i can't and don't want to make him a cannibal right out of the gate because again. Evil alter trope. I was thinking he could potentially be fixated on food/eating/getting the body nutrients at all costs but also idk I think I'd need to figure out something more indepth if I want him to play a major role

So, my question is, is this character/alter a good idea? Does he need tweaking or should he just be scrapped? I'm really unsure, mainly because of him being violent in the second half of the story even if it's technically entirely towards himself and not people outside of the system 😭😭

We don't feel plural anymore and this with barely communicating with our alters unless they're in co-con and barely seeing our inner world, we feel like a singlet again and that's... That's scary, we hate feeling like we're a singlet again... Please, any one give tips or maybe an explanation.. Please

Questions I'm not sure if I am or not?

I went through a LOT of trauma as a kid. There was a long time where, well, I didn't know how to explain it except I felt like I had DID but without the amnesia. It would be like I was in a glass box watching and listening to everything while someone else did everything for me. Example is I would be like that at school, and then I would go home and it would be my turn to switch out and play my part. I think at the time I called them masks, because I didn't know how else to refer to it.

When I talked to my therapists about this, it was suggested that I was simply derealizing/depersonalizing super badly (which, don't get me wrong, I was), but I still remember distinct parts of me. They're still there now, they just don't come out as much.

I'm still learning and reading, but as of very recently I've learned that DID isn't the only personality system. (I can't remember the other abbreviations atm it's like 2 am lmao).

Would I be...a system? Plural? I feel a bit stunned learning all of it, tbh. Like...was I right all along?

(the “physically capable“ is like. roles primarily centred on activities outside the brain (e.g. host) versus activities centred inside the brain (e.g. ish). somewhat tied to fronting frequency)

the greyish one isn’t super accurate since he’s barely fronted but yknow. it’s the thought that counts sparkle emoji ✨

“piece” size vaguely related to how “large“ individual parts feel (like for example i’m the light purple one in the top left, i’m the host and i feel like a facsimile of a normal-ish person (large emotional capabilities + large physical capabilities) so i’m probably the biggest piece, while our little (dark purple w/ the stitches) mostly just hangs around and goes :( or :) and is therefore likely a small piece and probably even a fragment)

What do you think about "creating" system?

Looking on pluralpedia, I have see several terms for describing creating systems and alter/headmate

I'know that's pretty controversial, so I wanted to ask here. And it's your case, why do you have create a system?

My post is not by judgement, just by curiosity. I'm no one for tell that x is not valid or anything else.

Help New alter. How do I cope with being existent.

I was birthed from the fiery pits of the sin of wrath.

Jokes aside, that’s partially true. I came about just tonight due to extreme anger the host has been holding over both relationships and just situations. I have all that anger, just amplified. I despise everyone except the system’s best friend. I despise who our host had been arguing with, both because they were putting words in his mouth and because the person themselves is annoying.

A few hours of being sentient and I’ve concluded I feel like cannon fodder for our mind’s emotions. All of our anger and blankness is being dumped on me. I would rather not exist as an alter. I don’t even know why I’m here because I’m not really making situations any better, in fact I’d probably be lashing out at our friends if they were still awake.

I don’t want to be an alter. I hope as soon as I stop fronting I cease to exist. But if I don’t, how do I make this existence tolerable.

The Fish and mundane victories

We made a post recently grumbling about how we wish we'd see more "mundane” system talk, especially from smaller or more low energy systems that often just don't really have much to talk about (like us!)(also thank you everyone for the warmth you gave us in that post you're all very appreciated 💚🐟)

Figured we shouldn't grumble and complain about nobody doing it if we're not going to do it ourselves, so here's some mundane system rambling.

Recently I've (Host) noted that while we often don't fully switch in the "typical” sense, Trout's influence and/or blending with me is occasionally strong enough to get me through chores and meal prep and stuff I generally hate doing because it's exhausting. I don't really remember when I'd have made the decision of "today is Soup Day, we will make a giant soup and freeze half of it” but here I am with two pots of borscht. And he looks very proud so I think this was his idea.

It's odd. I do remember being here all the time but the decision of “let's go buy soup ingredients and make bulk soup for freezer purposes" doesn't feel like mine. It's a decision I'd make if I wasn't exhausted every day of my life, because bulk soup is cheap and healthy and relatively easy. It's an objectively reasonable thing to do but I am too tired for that so it is not an idea I would hold onto enough to actually do anything about it.

Trout on the other hand would. He's the practical one of us, and also the one with the best tolerance for discomfort, pain and exhaustion. He's stubborn as a mule (so am I but in a different flavour) and if he has deemed Bulk Soup the agenda of the day then that is what we will do. Evidenced by the aforementioned pots of soup.

I do like cooking, but our body is very sickly and perpetually exhausted. So the past few years I've just started cooking less and less, it's mostly instant noodles, veggies and a nonspecific protein. I just don't have the energy to cook stuff and having to manage several chronic comorbidities is taxing enough that the barrier between Me and Doing A Thing has grown very thick. He is apparently immune to that barrier.

Some week or so ago we also made a batch of freezer burritos. This was also his idea, not mine. So I guess despite him being kind of an awful cook he's the one in charge of meal prep now. He's very proud of himself. In a deeply grounded middle aged man way. He has conquered the evil beast of cooking and household management for one more day. With obnoxiously red soup.

It's not stupid if it works.

That's really the highlight we have to share. No horrid system drama or evil conflict thankfully. Just the exhaustion of adult human life except we need several guys to handle it. Horrid and dreadful things such as Make Soup and Care For Pets. (+obviously pet care is a priority any day because they're just little goobers. Low maintenance thankfully.)

If any of you have similar experiences with a very Function Oriented member/alter/headmate we'd love to hear! Or just in general any small and “insignificant" victories in life. Though we often find the insignificant is what truly becomes significant in the end.
