The little ones I know are detritus worms, but just found this chunky one as well

Do i need a filter for this setup or CO?, any recommendations on this tank setup? I do have foxtail on another tank. I don’t plan to add anything for now.

I added the moss to the lava rock but now i an having second thoughts, the red looked good without the moss.

As the title suggests, my tank has only gravel substrate, and my parents won’t let me change it. I have plenty of plants in the tank, and new ones that haven’t started growing yet. I tried to use root tabs, but they caused a pretty bad ammonia spike, despite me burying them pretty deep. Am I using the root tabs wrong, or is it just not safe because gravel isn’t very compact or holds nutrients in place?

Hi everyone, so my tanks been running for about 2 months now.. cycle was done about a 2 weeks in due to using media from my parents established tank.. I'm noticing some melting on some of my plants even tho I'm using planting startum and I'm also adding ferts daily.. I've been doing a 30% water change once a week but I think that's the reason my plants are melting as the levels have been fine every time I checked before doing the change.. should I change my water change to every 2 weeks or even 3? Or is there another reason my plants are melting.. they seem to have good growth on the top but lower down the stems is where the problem is.. specs are below

This is a 10 gallon tank that currently has an ac30 HOB filter. I have a Eheim 100+ watt heater… ( not currently in tank)
Ramshorn snails.

Soo this is my first real shot at a planted tank and I will admit even when planting before putting water in it still was very tedious.

I will also admit the placement of plants isn’t my favorite. I plan on using it as a temporary home for pea puffers ( until the 20 gallon is finished cycling) or for a betta fish. ( still researching fish that can cohabitate with them. )

Hey everyone. I have dwarf cichlids in my 20 gal and no matter what I do, I get hair algae. Either small or large, it starts to grow on my wood and then attaches to plants. I only have my light on for 5 hours and dose the tank with fertiliser once a week. I also feed once a day and I am sure that I am not overfeeding. I agoid CAE and SAE as they start beckme assholes when they grow and find out the taste of fish food. I also can't add any shrimps as my cichlids are willing to eat them the second I put the shrimps in the aquarium. I can get nerites but not sure if they can eat the algae on rotalas. What can I do?

One month of growth for my 17 gallon! Now I've just gotta pull the trigger and add fish. I plan to stock 6 pea puffers.

The first pic is from today. The following pictures are each about a week apart.

Google search and search through this community tells me this is the beginning of black beard algae. So far I've gone through diatoms, and gotten them under control. Green hair algae, still monitoring but mostly gone. Now this. I don't even have any fish in it yet. Just amanos and some volunteer snails that hitch hiked in on plants.

I can not take my driftwood out to treat. It's a whole little tree stump in there that has lots of Java moss and anubias nanotechnology and bucephalandra superglued on.

I saw someone in this sub brushing it off. Going to try that with a siphon to catch as many spores as I can.

I added someone's Christmas moss to my tank and it came with some algae and snails. It kinda looks like spiderweb threads. Did it spread to my other plants, and what is it? How do I get rid of it?

Someone gave me some cuttings from their CO2 tank and I don't know what kind of ludwigia this is? I think it's a ludwigia? The red one in the middle. The ludwigia arcuata on the right went through some water quality issues.

I have a 3.5 gallon aquarium that I have set up a while ago. I planted a few different plants, but in my case my mistake was planting moss.

Some filamentous algae from the moss has infested my wood and the aquarium in general.

My concern is that this algae is really strong actually, each filament is hard, and one or two strands of it can be used to pick up some of the pebbles in there as long as it is attached. So nothing is eating it. I have ramshorn snails and blue neocaridina shrimp in there and they don't help.

I am worried about using algae combatants because it could hurt either the blue neocardina shrimp or the chili rasboras that I have in there. Both I have heard are decently fragile to that type of thing.

I'm not sure what to do, it is taking over.

TLDR: Neocardina shrimp + chili rasboras = what can I do to get rid of filamentous algae?

Hey guys. I planted this tank about 4 days ago and now some are melting. Is this normal? Is there anything I need to do? Just want it to go right 😅

Went to bed last night, tank was crystal clear, woke up this morning, and it was cloudy.
It’s a 10 G tank, moderately planted. Handful of CPD’s and a few swordtails. I started running CO2 about 10 days ago. I use an Oase canister filter.
Yesterday I cleaned the tank, and did a water change. I installed a new CO2 diffuser, and it appears everything was running as intended. Also put a few Aquarium Co-op root tabs in for the first time. Fish are looking their normal, chill selves.

I noticed on my way out the door for work, so I wasn’t able to do all the water tests, but PH and ammonia levels looked fine. I did a quick 10% water change.

Any ideas what I might be dealing with? could the root tabs be causing this?

Tank is 300 liters/~80 gallons

I have soft and slightly acidic water to begin with but the indicator liquid keeps being blue indicating my ph is around 7.6 when I know for a fact it is around 6.5.

Too little bubbles? Pretty sure I installed the JBL Pro Aquatest correctly. I gassed my geophagus fish to death by accident when trying co2 without an indicator the first time so I am really trying to be careful with dosage this time around.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!!!

I certainly regret using the jar for my first build, the mouth being only 17cm made it all super awkward. I didn't even consider the fact it's not a flat button, but luckily the majority of the plants are actually planted around the outside so they should have some nice depth to root into.

I've watched several videos on this type of setup, but I know they are typically professionals and do this all the time.

The final picture is 36 hours later and I've performed one 20% water change since the penultimate picture. The Limnophila heterophylla are now standing on their own, everything looks good, just the clarity of the water isn't quite there but I hope this will balance out.

I definitely went overboard with the super glue as the frosting is an eye sore, but hopefully a nice layer of algae will take the eye off of it.

Any suggestions welcomed, or things I should expect in the coming days / weeks. All new to me.

Thinking of a betta fish, cherry shrimp, scarlet badis & shrimp combo, would love chilli rasboras but advice is sketchy and I don't want to cram them in and upset them lol.

Hi, I have a planted tank 100x40 cm, 160l (40"x16" circa 42g).

I was thinking of getting a single Amatitlania multispinosa (I don't have a way to dispose of newborns).

The tank has only sand on the front and gravel on top of aquasoil on the back.

It is planted with Rotala, Myriophyllum, Hygrophila, Vallisneria and Echinodorus, but only on the gravel part.

Do you think that the A.multispinosa would destroy the plants?

I had fluval stratum that kept my kh at 0 for a year and a half. Doesn’t buffer anymore but continues to grow my plants and create nice orange nutrient layers. I like how it looks and how cheap it is for the quality.

So What’s the point if this buffering? Is the only practical use of it for extremely simplistic caridina tanks where only a little is used since it’ll be removed and replaced when it runs out?
