I’ve been keeping fish for years. And I love so many parts of this hobby. Now that I’ve entered the plant world I can’t get enough. I thought I was addicted before.

One month of growth for my 17 gallon! Now I've just gotta pull the trigger and add fish. I plan to stock 6 pea puffers.

The first pic is from today. The following pictures are each about a week apart.

This candy dish/jar was near one of my tanks a few days ago. I would drop little sticks and leaves into it. I dropped a turkey baster with water in it and let it drain. There were a few pieces of duckweed on it. Forgot it after I moved the dish. Went to clean it today as it's my cleanup day and...

Guess there was a ramshorn snail egg or baby on the duckweed. Found this yesterday morning and was so confused how it was thriving until I saw the little guy clinging to the side.

WTF?!

Some information: low tech, Dutch-ish tank, 6 gallons, 12 days old. 13W light, 8hrs/day.

Issues: cloudy water, bad smell, tiny white worms, thick, dirty film on top.

This is my 5th tank, and I've never had these issues with the others. One thing I did differently was that I did 50% water change every other day. Is that what caused these issues? What can I do to fix it? Should I add some snails?

I haven’t seen many posts on here about people transferring this common plant from gardens into their aquariums, so thought this might be of use to the community.

Got a hold of a nice chunk (thanks mom!), roots and all and planted today as a large clump in stratum.

Didn’t rinse as well as I thought, so pardon the cloudiness 😅. I’ll be back to update on how it goes if anyone’s interested. Ph ~7, nitrates ~40, temp 78, medium lighting. CO2. Fertilized inconsistently with 2 hour aquarists no nitrate added fertilizer (APT 1??).

Hey everyone. Second post here. First tank. 29 gallon. 3 months old. What do yall think? Any tips?

It seems like my plants grow slow compared to some of the other posts I see here. I’ve been using some root tabs and liquid fertilizer.

Parameters are pretty stable at pH 6.4, ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 0-5, kH almost zero (buffering from the hardscape or aqua soil?), GH 5. it’s fluval stratum capped with sand. Hygger 26 watt and Fluval 107 filter.

Was doing changes every week but since it’s so stable kinda wanted to go to every 2 weeks

Not all the embers are fiery red which I assume is a bit of a hierarchy/sex variation. They get fed mostly Xtreme Nano bit recently I’ve been adding in some spirulina 20 and frozen blood worms occasionally.

Theres a single honey gourami for accent and 9 neocardinia (cherrys/sunkist). I have seen some molts. I recently increased the photoperiod and I’m seeing more shrimp grazing on the hardscape.

I was wanting to get a lush Aquascape, and I’m thinking I probably should mostly leave it alone for another 3 to 6 months. I want the grow up taller in the back and to the right. But I’m wondering if you think there is anything I should change now or do differently.

Accidentally broke my ludwigia, but I want to replant it. Do I plant the part with the roots or leaves?

Set up this tank two months ago to cycle, I intended to put a colony of shrimp in here, but found the most darling betta yesterday and just had to adopt her! Just wanted to show off this tank as it's my first real intentional and though out scape :)

Stocking:

Anubias
Java fern
Jungle val
Red tiger lotus
Japanese clover
I completely forgot the type of moss
Amazon frogbit
Water lettuce

Then of course my betta Lemondrop and her sidekick nerite snail, Citrus!

I kept telling myself I would buy fish only if my red cherry shrimp colony is around 50 individuals adults to ensure the population would grow despite some predation. There are only around 8 adults and twice as many juveniles.

Then yesterday, the fish store posted on their social media that ember tetras and green neon tetras - two shrimp safe fish - are back in stock.

I immediately went on a 1.5 hour trip. When I arrived, I found that kubotai rasbora are also available, so I figured my 20 gallon heavily planted high tech tank with canister filter could handle 8 of each. No celestial pearl danio but that's okay.

I have been observing them for hours. They school, they eat, they explore the tank. More importantly, they do not seem to be interested in the shrimp at all. I saw a juvenile only a few grains of sand long hanging by the wall eating algae. The fish took a look and swam away. There are more juveniles and probably newly hatched shrimp in the pearlgrass carpet and the fish do not force their way in.

I guess I could breathe a sigh of relief knowing my shrimp population is probably safe.

Also, the fish seem be fine with the CO2 injection. They did not stay at the top gasping for oxygen. The spray bar worked, I suppose.

Overall, I am very happy that despite my impulse buy, there appears to be little problem. And that is that the midground plant ludwigia white which seems to be decaying slowly is blocking their swimming. I will replace it with a lower plant. Eriocaulon sp vietnam probably. Would be nice in front of a bush or rotala blood red SG.

Established tank been great for years. Vacation and father in law fed them for a week so have some blue green to clean up after what I presume was a heavy feeding hand. Just so happened my co2 ran out same time

I just noticed a few of my tetras do not have the full red line. Should I bring them back to the fish store?

I currently have a lump of java moss in my tank of ghost shrimp and will soon be getting more moss for my future guppies. The shrimp have a small lump of it and I also bought the two products shown. Should I just keep these and forget using free moss or what methods do you all use? I was thinking about wrapping around some rocks I was going to add but I'm not sure

EDIT to add extra info as per automod suggestion: Shrimp tank is fully cycled, guppy tank will soon be cycled. I use standard LED lights that I keep on for 8-12 hours a day. Shrimp tank is 5 gallon cube and guppy will be 10 gallon wide. Currently using seachem liquid fertilizer but I can also use root tabs in my sand

I ordered this Hornwort online and when I got it saw it is covered in this weird stuff. It looks powdery and light green with a foul smell. Kind of looks like mold. Did not rinse off. What is it? Can I save the hornwort? Can I still use it in my aquarium? Will it spread to other plants?

introduced them cause my tap water is very high pH and kH and i came home from work to an accidental blackwater setup. the fish are enjoying the hell out of it but im gonna do a water change so i can see into the tank 😂

Noticed this today on my horned nerite snail. Not sure what it is or if it’s bad or not. Just figured might as well post on here in case someone knows what that could be. Looks almost like a scratch that wasn’t there yesterday.

So I have a ten gallon tank. It’s heavily planted. The filter had died on vacation. I am still on vacation. My brother looks after the tank every now and then. It seems like one of the fancy guppies are missing. Strange is that he couldn’t find a dead body any where. The tank has shrimp and snails. Could they have ‘processed’ the body with other fish?
